I seem to recall that this forum had a good number of Coke Zero fans.  Like everyone else, when I heard Coke was replacing it, I feared this was going to be another "New Coke" case.

Last night, I saw the replacement product on the shelf at the supermarket, bought a bottle, and tried it today.  I wish I had saved some of the classic to compare.  Either way, I like it and I liked the old one, and am looking forward to trying the flavor varieties.

Brian O'Malley's reaction post to the original news though encapsulates my original fears about it.

Does it still have aspartame? I like Coke Zero, but I have actually switched to Diet Pepsi where possible.

The ingredients list is the same.

I had a bottle the other day. It tasted a little bit smoother, and perhaps more like "Coke" (with sugar or corn syrup), but it wasn't a big change at all. Many people wouldn't even notice. I'm an aficionado, though. :-)

And yes, it has aspartame… that completely safe ingredient. :-D

Scientific Studies. Aspartame has been found to be safe for human consumption by the regulatory agencies of more than ninety countries worldwide, with FDA officials describing aspartame as “one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved” and its safety as “clear cut.”

Quite nice. Better after taste, smooth blend...it's a go for me.

It tickles me every time someone mentions the "concerns" or "safety" aspect of aspartame, still :)

There's a lot of flub studies on a bunch of different things, but the scientific studies of aspartame is not one of them. It's clear cut, like iacas said.

THAT said, I don't drink coke zero. Not any diet beverages. But then again I'm not drinking any sodas much nowadays (even though my fridge is full of them). I much prefer coke, though. And I can, hands down, do a blind taste test between coke and pepsi 100 times in a row and I will be correct 100 times. I'd put money on it.

Its smoother and sweeter than the original product. closer to regular coke. I prefer the old coke zero but it could be just because I am used to it.
