Anyone else get the feeling that the broadcasters were rooting against Thomas and schauffele? I did. It was weird.

For sure. Spieth is the anointed one the media sees as able to carry interest in the game. I like Thomas fine, but to the media he doesn't carry the star power that Spieth does so it's natural they're not going to root for him.

Speaking of the broadcasters, NBC needs to hurry up and find a replacement for Miller. I've never disliked Johnny and usually appreciate his honesty, but he seems like he's mailed it in and doesn't want to be out there doing it anymore...he's all but said as much, so I hope NBC can find a decent replacement for him soon.

I mute the commentary alot of the time when i watch golf, anyway. I just have it playing on TV as a background thing. I understand TV producers and advertisers want conveinvent story lines with bold faced names. But i felt that the broadcast was clearly rooting agaist those two guys in favor of Spieth and it was distracting. Rooting for is one thing, but rooting against is awful.  I see this kind of artificial king making more in golf than i do in any other of the pro sports. Its like the golf world has daddy issues or something.

This was fun to watch.

  • I thought they handled the points updates pretty well actually, especially in the stretch.  I'd much rather just see the tally than the stupid, "so in so wins if _____ has a 3way tie for 7th or worse, etc" stuff
  • Never liked Johnny Miller - still don't - was a great player, but something is 'off' about him when he's commentating
  • Schauffele - all the announcers should get together and ASK the kid how to pronounce his name, seriously.  Impressive tournament by the kid though
  • The Cup is a points race, I have no issue with a Paul Casey type of player winning (it's a season long marathon win, not just oversimplified "who's made a splash" in each week's sprint), wish he had held it together this time really
  • JT earned the win - good for him.  Someone had to break out on Sunday
  • The scenario for a tie with Spieth and JT - that would have been fantastic to have a playoff

That's insane.

So was curious as to the list and put this together quickly (source) so may be off:

Spieth - 3

Si Woo Kim - 1

Matsuyama - 4

Thomas - 5

Rahm - 1

Xander Schauffele - 1

Single length irons guy - 1

Cameron Smith  - 1

Daniel Berger - 1

18 wins under 25, right? If JT won once, that would be 14, 4 greater than the 10, the current record, skewed by Woods.

BTW, these winners are 28 or younger:

Cody Gribble - 26

MacKenzie Hughs - 27

Wesley Bryan - 28

Fowler - 28

The age of the old, is over, the age of the young, has begun. :-D
