Doing the same at work now. My sequence was off by a late hip by a 10 degrees or so? Re-iniating my leg to hip initiating the downswing again. Repeating many times...

Repeating many times one right after another to ingrain that hip first feel.

Starting to put whip back into it.

Today will be my first day doing this challenge. I video'd my swing Sunday, got some feedback yesterday and thus my top priority for the next couple weeks is to change my address/swing posture. I'll be practicing my set up in the mirror every day.

This morning I practiced getting into my setup in the mirror, specifically ensuring my feet were shoulder width and my feet were slightly flared outward allowing my knees to "point" out rather than in. I plan to practice this each day this week at home and possibly hit the indoor range to practice getting into it and swinging a bit later in the week.

12/19/17:

I'm at 263 days in a row.

Well I think I'm going to do a more detailed post for once.Β

It was a warmer day today, so I hit some limited flight balls with 54Β°, PW, 7i, and 4i. Mostly using my recent practice keys, and getting some feedback. A lot of these drills, are working very well. My shorter half to three-quarter backswing for one. I've been working a lot on my one-piece takeaway, and that seems to be working well. Even the 54Β° wedge has a nice flight and I'm not catching it a little thick.Β

Mostly trying to keep this groove through the winter months, so once the weather breaks in April I'm not shaking off a bunch of winter rust, so when the tournament season in the summer hits, I'm not just starting to turn the corner, I will have already turned the corner and be running with it.

Did a bunch of swings today.

I'm making a "ball target simulator" from some scrap parts so my club simulator can report how far off target I am to within 1mm accuracy to simulate the location "on the face" I am simulating hitting.

Putting the whip back into the steeper swing. Hands as high as possible at the top. Club path still looks reasonable. Simpler path seem s to be better. Just need to incorporate not hitting fat and not flipping at the end. Need to compress downward at the bottom of the swing.

Working on club simulator, and now the distance to target (sweet spot) measurement tool.Β

Dec 21 Day 21Β Β  Invested two plus hours on the range working through motion drills.Β  Then spent 30 minutes working on pitches and chips from 5-15 yards off the green.Β  The course was empty in the late afternoon, so I did the chipping and pitching around the 10th and 18th greens.Β  Also continued to work on improving my swing speed using the Super Speed Golf Training System.

Hit my wooden driver a few times with my new stronger grip, most of the focus was on coming from the inside into impact, actually hit some really nice draws about 240 yards, as it was about 30Β° today.

This seems to be working out. I just have to keep myself from flipping at impact. That's possibly why I'm getting a launch angle of 26 degrees with my 9i.

Also working on a steeper path into impact by hitting my club simulator into a target on the ground.

The first model looks huge, I'm going to shrink it down a bit. Put it on a regular shaft and the thing looks ridiculously big.

Dec 22 Day 22Β Β  Spent 90 minutes on the putting green using the Pelz Putt Tutor to assess and drill starting the ball on line, then the Pelz Putter Clip to work on centeredness of hit, then The Gate Drill using left and right hand only swing, finished with 40 putts to various holes on the putting green -- all putts were greater than 30 feet to help with distance control.

Then spent 3 hours on the range working through the drills on pages 175-178 from the book, "Train For Golf Like an Olympian"Β Β  Specifically working on club awareness and motion drills.

Five minutes of takeaway drills this morning, just trying to get the feeling of a one-piece takeaway low and slow. So I really have to slow down to achieve this.

    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on.Β πŸ˜‰ Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.Β  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seemΒ  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
