Day 113

Actually did more practice swings than real swings today. Reviewed a lesson from a couple months ago and worked on feels for making a full turn. Did 5-6 practice / rehearsals before each ball. Hit 10 balls with a 7-iron. Swing feeling a little better.

Day 5

Sunday, March 29, 2020

Another session in the backyard swinglab.  Hit some full shots with the 7 iron, and then "played" the front nine of Sugar Hill Golf Club, which has closed for the COVID-19.  I used my launch monitor, and estimated the shots that I would have based on how I hit it.

Day 91 - March 29, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Mirror work in the living room. Tomorrow I'm going to start filming my April series of lessons.

Day 114

Did a Superspeed workout, and hit some shots with 7-iron at what felt like 50% speed working on full turn and hips not moving/swaying.

Day 30 - Still raining so it worked on positions without a ball in the basement focused on a rubber tee. Then I set up a little soccer net and chipped into that.

Day 92 - March 30, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

About 15 minutes working on my backswing. I tweaked it a bit after recording some initial video. I wasn't turning as much, which is what I was worried about, so I shortened the arm motion and increased the turn again.

Day 6

Monday, March 30, 2020

Had physical therapy and had to mow the lawn, so no hitting into the net. 😥

Worked on getting my hips to start my swing with a weighted club.  I'm taking it slow and easy from the top, trying to quiet my hands, while getting them faster through the impact zone, while trying to get my hips open at impact.

Day 115

Started hitting some balls with 7-iron at 50% speed and it was alright. Ramped up to full speed and started shanking the shit out it, to the point of the ball missing the net entirely. I think the Coronavirus pandemic is in my head and causing me to lose focus.  Went inside and putted. Need a lesson but everything is closed with the shelter in place at least until end of April, and likely longer.

Day 93 - March 31, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

About 30 to 40 minutes downtown. Maybe a bit longer. Really messing around to try to get some good feels. Shoulder still wants to "shrug" and the hands to go down more than out.

Day 7

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

A rainy day and a trip to Sam's to shop for us and my elderly parents kept me indoors today.  Used the weighted club and worked on getting my hips open at impact.  Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I plan on getting out and hitting some balls.

Day 94 - April 1, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Three hours downtown, and at the end, strained either an intercostal or the transverse abdominis on the left side. Was swinging, for me, pretty damn well, really. Only planned to hit two more balls, and on the penultimate one I felt a little something, and on the next one, a lot of something. Still, feeling like it's mild to moderate.

Day 116

Indoor putting. Haven’t been hitting the ball well at all lately when practicing (shanks), so just going to do some putting for the time being to give myself a break from mental torment of full swing work until I can arrange a lesson. I also plan on working on physical fitness/conditioning during the shelter in place through the next month in CA.

    • If you're on the bubble about buying one don't take my opinion, I'm just lazy that way. @klineka bought one and I think he's Ok with it.
    • Plus the quote should be ‘Matter cannot be created or destroyed’. - Antoine Lavoisier, father of modern chemistry. Side note: he was guillotined in the French Revolution. These guys remind me of Bryson DeChamblow. They use buzz words that most with think make them sound smart. Sad part is people who actually know see right through them.
    • Seems like the guy belongs to a track over in Tampa that has not aged very well. Probably has some Orlimar Tri-metals in the pro shop for sale. Kind of make me want to take a road trip.
    • Just critiquing the article.  He is misquoting energy being created or destroyed. The energy conservation is more around systems, and accounting for energy in the system. This is why thermodynamic equations end with some sort of variable, usually entropy. Heat loss is a common energy loss that must be accounted for to balance the thermodynamic equation. Let's say you have a car engine, if you write out the thermodynamic equation, at the end you need to account for the heat generated as a loss. We haven't found a way to redirect heat effectively as energy into a mechanical system for use.  I would say certain movements in the golf swing do either promote more power or less power. Power being swing speed. All that energy is known, it isn't like any system is claiming they are breaking the laws of thermodynamics.  I get the guy wants to sound professional here, I get his gripe, but don't misuse physics please. 😛 Not sure I believe that. If you practice the movements, specifically enough, you will make a swing change. If it is good or not depends. I do not think a golfer can become so ascribed to a system, and believe it makes them better, then it does make them better. There might be some confidence level here, so maybe some measurable result could be found. It could be gaslighting as well. Unless you track the scores out, a person might believe they are better when they are not.  Maybe for some, but I do not believe all of these instructors are after this. I think the golf instructor might just be bad at realizing how long it takes to make a swing change, and a good result might not actually be due to their instruction, but just variance. So, it might just be a bad assumption on the instructor's part. I do not think it is all, "Oh, if I can just make every good shot sound like it is me improving them, I got them roped in for x amount more lessons." There could be more "snake oil" salesman out there than I think. I think a lot of special programs are designed as to get to know the instructor. An instructor's business is to get clients. I do not see these sorts of promotions, camps, or what not as a scam. What if an instructor is like, buy one get one free lesson. Or, buy one adult lesson and a kid gets a free lesson. It could be a way to get a kid into the game if they are interested. This could be done by any type of instructor; method, system, or whatever.  From my experience, at least at the places I have been to or instructors I have happen to oversee teach. Most of them do use cliche's, or drills to fix a common problem. They may not be hitting on the exact issue, but it is what they know. I wouldn't categorize it as a method, or as the writer gave an example, Stack and Tilt.
