Day 171 - 2025-03-20

Got a good 30 minutes in today. A little backswing so it doesn't get too far out of hand, then some downswing stuff. If I'm in a good spot at the top I have a chance even without the best downswing.

Day 12 (21 Mar 25) - Weekly Friday men’s group shootout.   Tough winds (10-20 mph hurt going out and just as fast help coming in) made for tricky play on all shots.  It made for a very conservative round of coarse management.  Add that the greens were firm and fast and it was an interesting day all the way around.

Day 245: range session today. Spent it all working on slow swings, working on my lower body stuff in the backswing. Need to feel like I’m moving forward really early. But worked well when I did that.

Day 13 (22 Mar 25) - Gripped down short pitches (20yds or less)  with the 7i in the backyard.  Focus was simple - grip down to just above the bare shaft, quiet wrists, quiet hands and a smooth putter like stroke with ample torso turn.  Love those low flighted shots!

Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”

Day 14 (23 Mar 25) - A quick front nine with my grandson this afternoon.  Enjoyed watching him take on more distance and play stress free.  On my front, was a good day to focus on clubbing up as I was playing an older set that’s at least a club weaker than what I normally play.

      Hitting Mat Recommendations for Home?

      I've had this one since 2021.  Amazon.com No complaints.  I had to reglue the little Velcro tabs onto the yellow foam guide thingies. But that's not a big deal. The Velcro came off almost immediately and I put them back on using super-glue and they've been fine ever since. I've hit a lot of balls off this in my garage and I have no complaints.

      I've been thinking about buying a hitting mat for home indoors use. I currently only got a small patch of some mat I bought years ago and stand on a wooden platform. It'd be nice having a mat to stand on and hit from. After some searching, I see Fiberbuilt often being praised. Not sure if I can get hold of it easily here, and buying internationally can get expensive for a mat that's already quite pricey (~$800). The Wittek Quattro is also usually favorably mentioned, and at half the price (~$400) of the Fiberbuilt. Anyone have experince with this mat? Any other suggestions?

      It just occurred to me that the last time I was serious about golf, my woods were made of….wood! Also interestingly (to me anyway) as I shopped for “woods”, mostly on eBay, I found that all the clubs in really nice cosmetic/aesthetic shape (good finish, nice club face, good grip) were woman’s clubs. Seems they either take really good care of them or don’t use them much.    And lastly, for now anyway, I went to a range today that has Top Tracer monitors at all the stations - another “new” development that may have been around for quite a while, but this was a first for me. I found it useful although I’m sure I only scratched the surface of its capabilities.

      Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue.
