Day 153

Did some more grip experimenting with a 7-iron. Worked a bit on driver slow speed swing mapping. Reviewed some video from 5 month old lessons and worked on some of those things. Played around with tripod and phone mount to get set up to record some swings. Brainstormed on how to get some alignment lines on my hitting mat.

Day 70 - worked a bit on swinging out more from A4. I caught myself regressing a bit in yesterday’s round and had a lot of pulled shots. Once I realized what I was doing, things improved. Also worked on short chips and pitches. I had three green side ones and I haven’t been practicing those.

Day 132 - May 9, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Full swing work for ten minutes in the mirror listening to a podcast. and five minutes putting in the hallway upstairs. The slight break at the one end of the hall is SO frustrating. You literally can't hit the one vertical part of the door jamb without hitting the ball at a non-hole-able speed.

Day 76: Mirror work today. Checking my head movement in the mirror, looked fine to me. Making sure my flow off the ball wasn't too much as well.

Day 154

Skipped yesterday (Saturday 5/9). Just needed a mental break from focusing on my golf swing so much.

Played 18 today. Worked on an older feel for driver and I was really tattooing the ball off the tee, including a 424-yard drive (aided by hitting downhill and firm conditions, but might have been the best drive I’ve ever hit). Unfortunately the same feel doesn’t work great for irons, so I struggled to forget the feel when hitting approach shots and thinned more shots than usual.

Day 72 - Worked on swinging out again today with Driver, 3W, 7-PW and 54. Filmed both DTL and FO. It is looking pretty good. We will see how it translates to the course tomorrow. Also tweaked set up and pre-shot to help emphasize the feel.

Day 40 - same. Gonna be the same for a few weeks now.  Slower swings with focus on PP (club head back and up), slight pause at the top, slow transition and 1/2 speed downswing.  I do this 10 times followed up by 20 balls doing the exact same thing.

Day 73 - Played 9 at the local muni. Decided to warm up at home because the course is 10 minutes from my house. It was very windy, steady 15-20 with 30 mph gusts. Not too cold though. Shot a 42.

    • Standing a bit taller and closer to the ball seems to give me a better hand path. I feel like I can go harder at impact without losing my balance. Have missed only three fairways in the last two rounds, and it seems I may have picked up a yard or two compared to this time last year. I mean I'm doing good but now need to ensure I don't lose my grip change.
    • Day 22, May 26.  I'm at the office now, but this morning, before I left, I timed 15 minutes in the practice room, hitting 6-iron practice shots off the mat with the same routine as yesterday.
    • That's a good question;  I think I need to review my last several rounds and see where I tend to miss it.  I can recollect my last time there, I missed left, but that's because I remember where I nearly chipped in from. The thing is, my "default" trouble shots are low shots I can hit with a 7-iron for about 80 yards, a 5-iron for about 100, or a 4-hybrid for about 130, at least without elevation changes.  Now I wonder if I'm, say, 120 yards out from that green, if a low 5-iron that I'd otherwise use to advance the ball when I have a tree to stay under would work.  I have a casual round with some friends at that course this weekend, maybe I'll try that shot with an extra ball (I wouldn't try that during a tournament, of course, but a casual round I think it's okay to hit an occasional extra "I wonder what happens if" ball if I can do so without holding up play).  That having been said, I am going to have to allow for more draw or fade than before, and that makes sense.  I think I miss the green more left or right than short or long. Thank you!
    • Struggling a bit to wrist flex the right way to square the clubface. Right now, I can’t even exaggerate it enough to hook the ball around an alignment stick. The hip piece is a struggle as well. If I try to get the arm swing speed ramped up then I tend to have older patterns. Mix of either high right hip through impact, early extension. I can do arms down and right hip down more if I swing at like sub 70%. It’s not like I’m not trying to do the wrist stuff. My forearms got the workout today. 🤣 I would like to be able to swing 95% and not hit a big high push cut. It is such a weak shot.  I probably should have had the phone camera recording. I just wanted to see if I could hit push draws. I had the alignment stick up as a reference. I will look at some video tomorrow.
