The first driver I really liked was a cherry-finished persimmon driver I got from a custom golf shop in Oceanside, CA. True Temper stiff shaft, with a rather tall face on it. It kept the ball in the fairway, ran out well, and the deep face came in handy when playing public courses with chopped up tee boxes.

I played it from about 1977 until 1984, when I traded it away for MacGregor MT woods which matched my irons. (MT driver was OK, but I sometimes regretted trading away the custom cherry beauty.)

image.png.eb102a18358950c3518085cd387c20b3.pngNext one was an Air Zevo driver, 9.5* with the Black Zevo stiff shaft. First post-persimmon driver I found that really worked for me. Played it from 1998 until 2008, when it came time for me to shift from stiff to R-flex clubs.  AZ had a hot launch and medium trajectory with lots of rollout. Towards end, shaft was just too much for me.

Third was the Callaway HyperX Tour driver, 10.5* head with the stock Fuji E360 FitOn 68-gram R-flex shaft. This was a finalist among seven drivers in a 2-hour fitting session. HyperX had about same numbers as a Cleveland Hi-Bore, but I just felt better standing over the Hyper X.

This worked great for about four years, and then I was smitten with the first-year RazrFit driver. I foolishly self-fit myself on this one, a stock 9.5* head and a RIPd NV 60-gram R shaft. (It had a .350" hosel vs. the .335"). I put the heavy weight on the toe to prevent closedown, but I entered a a phase when I had good months and bad months for tee shots. Despite repeated adjustments to the settings and my stance, it never really worked... trouble with left misses.

Then, in summer 2016, I got fitted for the Callaway XR16 Pro with a Fuji Evolution II TS Speeder 665 shaft, 63 grams R. flex. This was a low-torque, more rigid shaft, and head set 1* open it straightened out everything. Driver now one of the best clubs in the bag.

I tend to do quite well in drivers with a pro head and an R-flex shaft. Not so for FWs... I tend to do best with standard or sometimes a GI head.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I loved the sound of an old circa 2009 Nike Dymo ... it wasn't as ridiculous sounding as the older Nike Sasquatch's ... but it just had that "smash a baseball bat into the side of a metal garbage can" hollow sound that I loved.   I may get a used one to putz around with for old times sake ...

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
