Ill probably get to it tomorrow nite, If that's the case though, should I try paint thinner instead of solvent?  I was going to use my golfsmith  solvent.  His Bramptons solvent I honestly thought was vegetable oil...but he uses it and it's fine.

The inside of those grips look like they have a shiny coating on the rubber that u don't normally see in any other grip I've done.

Yes, but instead of basic paint thinner, I would suggest odorless mineral spirits.  Available at any home improvement store, paint store or hardware store, and not very expensive.

That's not a cookie - that's just a content-based ad.

If you had previously searched for ovens, and you got ads for ovens, that would be using cookies.

So I ended up pushing the cp2 grips off and cleaning the shaft good.  Also ran sandpaper inside the grip even though no tape stuck to it.  It was wet some when I rolled up the mouth of the grip.

So...I bought the wider grip tape and used that.  I think one isuue with spiralling the thin one was too little tape coverage for adhesion.  I also used my golf works grip solvent which has a different consistency than the oily Bramptons one I used before.

So let's see how this works.  I'm confident but still keeping my fingers crossed.

Just did my yearly re-gripping.  Worst time ever this time.  (compared to last year when it just was easy and a pleasure to do)

My little, crappy table clamp just wouldn't cooperate.

The tape and grips did not want to slide even though I drenched them.  (that said, it was mainly those clubs I thought to just reuse the tape instead of replacing it.  After 3 tries, I just spent the time to strip the rest)

Got it done, but I think two of my wedges aren't fully butted down (maybe a half inch) and I did have to redo one club, glad I had a single extra grip on hand.

So tempted to get a good clamp and an air compressor - even if I only do it once a year.

Not a fan of PURE grips/still using tape?

I re-gripped a set of irons the other day. Spent 30 minutes peeling tape and cutting the old grips off… and five minutes putting the new grips on. Were the old grips also "PURE" grips, the total time would have been about six minutes, because you can blow off an old grip in about five seconds. Most of the time was just clamping or unclamping, in fact.

@rehmwa, meant to quote you, but I forgot so I'll tag you instead.

AGREE

I had a set of multi-compounds remaining in my inventory (Golfsmith went out of business and they were $4 each - I'm still fond of them.  But that's the last of them.  And I just don't have a compressor yet.  Cutting the grips is easy and the tape USED to be easy and just peel right off, this time a few of them were super sticky and bit more work.  It was an effort for 13 clubs that normally take about an hour total to do took twice that, most of that extra was on 4 clubs - specifically the ones I'd taped up extra layers (more than 2) to get the grips to my size.

Even there, I could use a compressor for my current grips if I had the equipment.  for that matter, if I had the compressor and adapter, it would be a quick trick to reseat those two wedges......

I'll look at a new setup next winter, and the Pures too.  Seriously, a better table clamp, a small compressor and I'm in business.  New toys!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
