Thanks folks, for a really interesting and entertaining discussion thread! 

I’m a decent ball striker, at my best when I just pick the club then go. I unconsciously adjust my pace of play to the group that I’m with and the pace of the course that day. So I never feel frustrated by pace of play.

Now, I detest putting and just glance at the putt and go. It’s by far the weakest aspect of my game.  I’ve had a few chances at shooting my age lately but failed because of putting woes. I’ve noticed that our consistently scatch players spend quite a bit of time studying their putts (and pitches and chips), so yesterday I played a round by myself and tested out using a putting routine, especially reading putts from both sides. No three putts!  I normally get at least 3 per round. So I may decide that I like putting ...
