My Swing (Nick-UK)

Forgot to mention, assuming I don't shank(!) then my usual shot shape is a pull.

I've also recently discovered this excellent blog post about leg length discrepancy on the golf swing, and wondered if it could be the reason I'm seemingly unable to turn my hips...?

I mean in the viewer's settings - just set the playback speed to 0.25 (I tried to do this in the recording settings but couldn't see it).

That's not the same as high speed, and the face-on appeared to be practice swings while the down-the-line was from a bad camera angle.

Fair enough, I'll attempt to get some more, but my golf buddy is away (on a golf holiday) so it might be a couple of weeks.

Many here just prop a phone up or use a little tripod or stick.

This is the setup I use.

The Tri-Pod...

Adapter for my cellphone...

In total, $55, but I went up in quality for the tri-pod because the cheaper ones tend to break.

Hi again.

Sorry for the delay, but here are the slow-mo versions:

Down the line

Front-on

There's almost no "flow" or forward shifting to your swing. It's very rotary, and that said, it's not like you're super-open at impact.

I'd look at some of the flow stuff, stepping drills, etc. to get the weight shifting forward a bit more (and possibly back a little bit early in the backswing).

This appears to have now been done, so thanks to whoever changed it on my behalf.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "flow". I know that my swing is already very steep, so wouldn't shifting my weight forward more only exaggerate that?

I also don't know what you mean by "back a little early in the backswing"...

My own criticisms from those videos are the bingo wing left arm during the follow through, an apparently lack of a full hip turn (despite being unable to physically turn more, at least not without a change to my legs - maybe), and perhaps the worst issue - my spine angle seems slightly bent towards the target at address (hence the link to the leg length discrepancy article above).

...I'm happy to be told otherwise though!

Getting your weight forward properly can shallow impact.

Thanks for this Boogie, just watched it but I don't feel like my swing suffers from either of the 2 issues that Erik demos at the start of the video. I'll attempt the drills anyway though.

Do you have any additional criticisms of my swing?

Interesting, but I'm struggling to picture how... If I shift more towards the target, then surely my arms will follow, effectively shifting that upper pivot point slightly towards the target too... At that point, surely I'd be coming into the ball even steeper?

(edited)

Hi again guys.  I've hit another wall with my swing and hoped for some more insight.  I've thankfully overcome the shanking issues I'd had previously, but I'm currently battling pull hooks AND high slices.  I've had a number of lessons and focused on several things over the past couple of years, including a grip change, more stable feet and TRYING to stop my arms from lifting too much (although I'm aware that's still very much a problem!).  When I strike it well, I can carry a 7i about 185 (in cold, UK climate), so speed isn't a concern.  Last year I was regularly shooting in the low 80s, but last weekend I shot 107... 😞 Thoughts?

Thanks!

Nick

Those aren't swings at a ball.

For good reason, the Rules for this section includes:

  1. Post good videos. Read this: http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing and don't post a lousy quality video or a practice swing.

From your description, you need to work on a consistent-ish club face at impact. Most practice swings have open faces and variable paths due to the conscious thought that goes into them, so you need to swing at a ball for us to help.

Sorry guys. Took a while for me to have another filming opportunity, but here we go:

I only included the hinge drill DTL for completeness, as that's what my pro has had me doing to try to address the ridiculous over the top swing and lifting of my arms (although watching that back, it doesn't appear to be changing much!).

The face-on vid is the one that really concerns me. I'm horrified by how much my head is moving! You can also see in that vid why I frequently leave the driving range with a raw chin...! 😫

Any thoughts please guys? I'm really struggling. Should I return to the drill in the video? How should I deal with my ridiculous shoulder movement?
