Question on Putting Stance

I have a two part question on putting if you please:

  1.  Is it legal to putt using only one hand/arm placing your other arm on your knee/leg?

  2.  If yes, can you align yourself with the ball behind your feet?  That is, for a right handed golfer the ball is a few inches behind your right foot - you would actually be closer to the hole than the ball?

I can post a picture but simply put - can I putt with one hand/arm and does it matter where my feet are?

R16-1d says, The player must not make a stroke on the putting green from a stance astride, or with either foot touching, the line of putt or an extension of that line behind the ball.

That's the only restriction for the feet. Think of a croquet stroke . . . that's not permitted.

No problem confirmed.

But would you be allowed on the course wearing carpet slippers and no socks?

Sorry I didn't mean in order to answer the question, just to satisfy my curiosity as to how weird the stance might look.  Curiosity now satisfied, but it doesn't look particularly weird.  Thanks, however, for putting in your slippers.  Now that's weird. 🙂

      Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.

      Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
