I'm new to this site but was hoping some fellow golfer readers could help me out. I recently bought a 2016 Scotty Cameron Newport putter on Ebay and now I'm not sure if I received a fake. The seller had an excellent rating and was selling several other putters that he was thinning from his collection. The putter was in immaculate condition and looks great except for one thing. Upon close examination, I realized you could see what appears to be milling lines on the back of the putter. Could someone tell me if this is natural or should the back be smooth? Photo below -

I must say I haven’t seen milling marks on the back of any Newport putters through various images. I’m no expert but I think you have cause to be suspicious. I’d take it to a golf store or call customer service at least.

Cameron typically mills their heads from solid blanks of steel, so i wouldn't find mill marks on the back a counterfeit red flag. But i honestly dont remember if any of the ones ive owned had them. You can check that serial code with titleist. They can usually tell you if its a fake or not. If you like the putter and it feels good to you, does it matter if its a "real" scotty cameron or not?

Go to the Scotty website - https://www.scottycameron.com

lots of pictures on it

here's one from that site - you see milling marks on the inset area, not as easy to spot around the frame though - that took about 23 seconds

I've tried searching a lot of other images - it's pretty difficult to find clear close ups of the back of a Newport.  I can see why you have to ask about.

Utility-wise, no, but value-wise, absolutely. Scotty Cameron putters have inherent value for being Scotty Cameron putters.

Plus, presumably @Flick723 paid Scotty Cameron price for a used putter, not cheap knockoff price.

Thanks for the picture. It resembles mine so that makes me feel better about it being genuine.

I'd still call customer service and see if you can get the authenticity vetted.  I bet they get that request all the time.

Or sell it.  I'll open bids at $35  😛

I sent them some pictures and the serial number last week but haven't received any response. I read they charge about $65 to send it to them and have them verify it. I'll just play it - it feels good and I'm putting pretty well with it.

That's right. I do like the way the putter feels and putts, but I would hate to think I paid that much for a knock off.

Yours looks good.

The most common indication of a fake is the lettering is off in some way. I bought what I knew was a tour rat knockoff and the only thing a Scotty Cameron expert could see wrong with it was the lettering on the face had square edges instead of round, and he thought it was real until I pointed that out (since I hadn't mentioned it was a fake, just asked what he thought and handed it to him without the fake headcover).

Thanks. I'm feeling a little more secure about my purchase. If it is a counterfeit, it is so good that no one would ever know, like you said. And my headcover looks legit - has the made in USA tag inside too.
