This same argument essentially applies to the Tea Party, minimum wagers, and a number of other groups in the US. And this essentially is Texas.

Big money ruling Hawaii Golf now?

Ellison completely changed the character of Lanai. I lived on Oahu from 2010-2013 (military). My wife and I took our first trip to Lanai in Jan 2011 and never wanted to vacation on any other island after that. We went back six times over the next 2-1/2 years, always staying at the Lodge. Lanai was a sleepy place, cool enough at night that you could actually wear a sweater and build a fire. It always seemed like we had the resort to ourselves. We'd take the shuttle during the day down to the Manele Bay resort and lounge by the pool and drink yummy boat drinks. We typically paid around $180/night for rooms at the Lodge. Golf was about $80/round, but the courses were never crowded and play was quick. It was by no means cheap, but definitely something within reach for a long weekend to experience a level of luxury that most people would never experience. Then Ellison bought it. Now the kama'aina rate is over $400. You can no longer use the Manele Bay pool facilities if you're staying at the Lodge. There was talk about closing The Experience or making it private. He's reshaped it as an exclusive destination for people who spend $10-20k on a week-long vacation. I just can't see how the value could possibly have tripled in 3 years, but the price certainly did. -
How has he managed so many? This week is his 7th regular tour event as a professional (plus the US Open which he qualified for). I know he got a freebie at San Antonio due to his T4 at Harbour Town, but he only made two cuts in the next 6 events.

LinkSoul - New Apparel Company by John Ashworth
k-troop replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
A linksoul ad keeps popping up on my FB feed: coast highway classic knit shirt for $29 (regular $68). So I finally bought one today. We'll see how it goes but between these and the Newport Cup team reviews I've got high expectations. -
Does he have any exemptions left?

Doesn't matter who you rooted for today when the USGA announced that BS maybe-penalty on the 12th everyone in the USA was rooting for DJ to win by 3.

Olney Park looks great. I've never been a practicer so reluctant to hit up club golf but i think that's what I need to do to keep my game from completely dying. Who knows--I might even get better! Playing 3 times a year now it's almost not even fun. Where do you play? 36 rounds so far in this weather is admirable.

What's your go-to spot, book, etc. for food ideas and cooking knowledge? I really like Serious Eats/The Food Lab, a website/blog/book by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. http://www.seriouseats.com/ I bought his book and read it cover-to-cover in a weekend. Yes, a cookbook that was interesting enough to just sit down and read it.

Your post intrigued me, so I decided to crunch some stats just for giggles. 2007 was Tiger's last full season before the broken leg/knee issue in 2008. He finished 2-2-12-W in the majors that year and won the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup. Immediately after the TC in September 2007 his OWGR points avg. was 24.35. Phil was #2, 14.73 points behind Tiger. Currently JD is at #1 with 13.37 avg. points, Jordan is #2 with 10.9, and Rory #3 with 8.8. Conclusions we can draw from these numbers: 1. Tiger's lead over #2 in Sept 2007 was by more avg. points than JD currently has. 2. The highest ranked golfer over which JD can claim a 2x lead is Adam Scott at #7. 3. I wanted to find the point in the OWGR where JD can claim a lead as big as Tiger's was over the #2 spot in 2007...but that's not possible. JD's lead over #10,000 in OWGR isn't as big as Tiger's lead was over #2. Obviously JD isn't Tiger. But what the numbers show is how astronomically far away he really is, even after 8 wins in the last 15 months. He's not 10% behind. He's 100% behind. In the 2-year (8 majors) stretch after the 2006 US Open, from the '06 British to the '08 US Open, Tiger finished: W-W-T2-T2-T12-W-2-W. Combined best finish among the current big-3 for the last 8 majors (from '14 US Open to '16 Masters): T4-W-W-W-W-T4-W-T2. It takes all three of the "Big-3" combined to equal a "Big-1."

@bjwestner I came across your thread looking for info on clubgolf, and just have to say -- WOW! Your dedication to pick up the game of golf and run with it, getting to low single digits in just 3 years is pretty remarkable. I'm super jealous given that I have played a whopping three rounds of golf since last August. Do you live near G-burg? Did you ever join clubgolf? Still interested in some info on that...I have a membership at S&H but I never go to the Rio location. I could work some golf practice into my gym time if I start using the Rio location vice the Lakeforest location, and that may be the only chance I have to swing a club until my kids get a little older.

I love doing fun stuff with leftovers. Last night's dinner: 30-oz ribeye cooked on a coal fire with grilled sourdough baguette and a green salad with carrot, tomato, onion, dried cranberry, bleu cheese, and basalmic. Assembled the leftovers into a sandwich.

The Kringle is some kind of mid-west thing. My in-laws are from Springfield, MO and they always get one of these when we stay over. I'd never heard of a Kringle until I stayed at their house the first time.

Seems an odd comparison. Tennis is ridiculously hard if you're playing someone at pro (not even talking touring pro) level. In golf, every match is against a pro. The "pro" is par for the course you're playing. Par is the goal, every hole, every day, every time. That's really freaking hard. Additionally the margin of error for a shot in tennis is massive compared to golf. Essentially you're equating "success" in tennis to getting the ball over the net and between the lines. So you're hitting a ball about 5-times the size of a golf ball with a raquet about 20-times the size of a golf club, and much shorter, lighter, and easier to control the head. The golf club is traveling 70-110 MPH; how fast must a successful tennis player swing the raquet to hit one of your "basic shots"? The speed of the golf swing exponentially magnifies any errors. And what's your target in tennis? For a golf shot, your target is roughly 25-yards wide, and it's 100-275 yards away. In tennis the target for your "basic shots" is 21x27 feet and you're trying to hit it from 20 feet away. Makes me wonder if you play golf, and what your HCP is?

Three weeks ago folks were "certain" he was playing at Quail Hollow. The only sure thing is that we have no clue what Tiger is feeling or when he'll be back.

So Bryson's next events will be the Nelson and Colonial. Being an SMU guy, I would expect him to make the cut and finish well in both events. He basically needs 3 more top-10s or 2 top-5s to get temporary membership. I think he'll use his 3rd exemption at the Nelson, meaning he'll have 4 sponsor's exemptions remaining plus any events he plays his way into. If he can finish well at Nelson and Colonial (a top-10 and top-25), then we can expect to see him at Memorial, St. Jude, Congressional, and Greenbrier before he burns through his sponsor's exemptions. I think he'll earn enough points at that point to get temporary membership IF he can take advantage of DFW. His case is even stronger if he qualifies for and makes the cut at Oakmont. Anyone know what his plans are for local qualifying?

Proforce 115 X-Flex iron shafts
k-troop replied to onthehunt526's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
http://www.victorycustomgolf.com/products/267/shafts/ust-rv2-115-iron.aspx Link to a custom golf site selling that shaft with description and specs. I'd agree that it'll perform like a PX or C-Taper, but as a composite shaft it might actually feel better. The PX and C-taper shafts feel pretty dead. I wonder where it would fall on this chart. -
You're asking about what difference there would be between: --2014 Diamana S+ blue regular flex 62, and --2016 Diamana S+ blue regular flex 60? Was Titleist using made-for Diamana shafts on the 913s? I don't remember. I doubt there is any difference, unless it is a made-for. If it is a made-for then there is still very little difference (Titleist made-for Diamana shafts were pretty close to their counterparts).

So I guess the good news is Bryson is beating US Open Champion Webb Simpson on his home course?

TGC is highlighting the 2013 Vardon Trophy winner and PGA Tour POY right now. Showing the weekend rounds of the 2001 Player's Championship. That was definitely "better than most" tournaments.

I liked the article. Funny how time changes perspective. When HH's book came out four years ago, the forum was up in arms over the breach of Tiger's privacy, unsupported allegations, and conclusions based on amateur psychoanalysis. The conclusion now, on essentially all of the same stories (although with better source development WRT the Navy Seal stuff) is "good read--I feel for Tiger." The Navy Seal stuff is interesting, and tying it all to Earl's passing gives it a context that at least makes superficial sense. I don't recall HH putting that much emphasis on how Earl's death affected Tiger. Seems like HH should have known about that--maybe I'll go back and re-read a few chapters. WARNING: WILD SPECULATION FOLLOWS. The timing of Tiger's comeback (full practice sessions, now maybe playing at Quail Hollow) seems tied to the article about him dealing with the prospect of being done with competitive golf. It seems almost as if... --Tiger is coming back to spite MJ. "Who is he to say I'm not going to be great again?" If that's the case, you have to wonder if it's too soon. --Or maybe MJ made those comments about his friend because he knew Tiger was physically ready, and he needed something to push him off of the couch. Knowing Tiger couldn't take being called out as tired and hopeless over his golf future (or something like that)... Obviously that's me reaching for a salacious story based on absolutely nothing. I think Tiger should wait until next year, even if he is physically capable of playing now. He's not that old: he can be very competitive from ages 41-47. He should practice, play rounds, practice, wait, deny himself, and everything else until next spring. By that time he'll be itching to compete so bad that he just might win 10 in a row. (Plus he'll give his back a full year when he doesn't have to push through if/when something hurts.)
