  1. My best results are when I replace long irons with hybrids and leave the woods alone. I really struggled badly when I tried to replace fairway woods with hybrids. It was an experiment that yielded crappy results.
  2. Well said. I've followed Tiger closely since his blazing performance during the 1997 Masters. His on course acheivements have been nothing short of awesome. He's helped elevate the $$$$ for all the golfers on tour. He's inspired many to take up the game. He's done a lot through his foundation and other charitable undertakings. He has become a role model for many of our youth. That is natural, I suppose. He does owe them, as he said himself during his conference Monday, a better behaved Tiger. He owes his wife and kids, too. That's for him to sort out privately. Personally, I can't see how she'd stay with someone who's been out whoring around to the level that he has. But, that's her decision. I thought the Augusta National Chairman's speech said it best. Tiger has a lot of work to do. I'm ready for the golf. I'm tired of the bullcrap that Tiger has brought to the game these last 5 months. I hold him responsible for this onslought of maddness.
  3. Confidence in your putter frees up your stroke....
  4. What's the history of that particular ball you were playing? I'll tell you why I ask. My initial results-opininions with the ProV1 were based on experiences I had with found balls. That certainly was unfair because "fresh-from-the-box" ammo performed much, much better. Maybe you had a recovered ball that had been out in the elements and was diminished in performance.
  5. I don't mean to be funny but blisters after a bucket of balls and nine holes seems odd. I don't know what to suggest. I seem to remember getting fairly bad blisters when I first started playing back in the early-mid nineties. I always used the basic rubber tour wraps. I later learned that these were undersized for me and I went to a larger grip and things seemed to improve. Long daily range sessions beating balls with small grips seemed to be the norm. In emergency situations, I'd use white medical tape (kept in my golf bag). A layer or two of this can work wonders.
  6. I found some Callaway Tour iX balls at WalMart for $30/dz. Not a bad playing ball. I went through a couple in today's round.
  7. I feel for the guy. I'm dealing with a messed up left knee. I feel for him!
  8. I recently tried the Cleveland Classic heel shafted that resembles Phil's putter. I thought it was an exceptional value.
  9. I typically by Titleist Players gloves (blemish models from a local store). I bought some TaylorMade Targa gloves from rockbottomgolf.com that do very well, also. The current faves are Bridgestone players gloves. Saw these on sale at TGW.com. Wore one today, super glove.
  10. Went through a knee re-injury 1.5 yrs ago......couldn't golf for a while. I didn't want my game to suffer, though, during the layoff. I found I could still practive putt at a nearby course with a sweet practice green. Thing is, I had to modify my stance to a more upright and natural stance, no crouching, no pain in the knee. This led to a host of changes...most of which were spurred on by reading Stan Utley's putting book. I came to realize during this period that putting was the game within the game and that I could bogey most holes by slapping the ball off the tee with my modified full swing that didn't stress my knee. The bogeys and pars come from 2-putting or better. It is during this time that my wife and son gave me my Scotty for my 40th birthday present. It fit my new stroke perfectly. I've never been happier with my putting. My new home course has some really large and fast greens at times and this is a huge asset. I don't sweat things once I'm on the green....gettting there is sometimes a struggle.... I also started using spinnier balls that really respond well to wedgwork. I'm sacrificing some distance, sure, but the short game results are worth it. Another thing about using these is the feel is muted off the putter if you don't lighten that grip pressure and feel it with your fingertips. Since these changes 1.5 years ago I've been through many high dollar drivers, too many to mention without extreme embarrasment. One putter has stayed, and will stay in the bag. I'd place more value on having a putter that fits you and feels right than any stick in the bag. Don't get hung up on brand...too many good ones out there. Find the one that suites you best.
  11. I did many years ago....back in the original Big Bertha Warbird S2H2 days. I haven't tried lately with my large volume driver.
  12. One thing I can thank the Haney show for is exposure to the series "Men of a Certain Age". I've been watching this ever since hearing about it and am hooked. I've got 2 episodes on my DVR that I will watch early tomorrow morning with a pot of java before meeting some buddies over at Applewood Golf Course...nice little country course.
  13. Sounds solid to me.
  14. Sounds like a plan!!!! Golf is always best when the confidence level is high. Hit 'em good!!!
  15. 70-115 yards: 70-85 is SW 85-100 is UW 100-115 is PW I swear, I should order another matching SW while I can get one as I'm on course for wearing mine out. I use that beloved 54 for so many shots it ought to be illegal. Aside from my putter it's my favorite stick by far.
  16. I'm just your average hack....and I can say with absolute certainty that 58 degrees is my limit of usefullness. I put a 64 in the bag for a few months but just could not justify keeping it in there....very limited use with my dimunitive skillset with this club. Phil Mickelson.....oh yeah...love what he does with it. I fully understand that the only simularites between his game and mine is that we both sometimes wear the old school visors and play the same type grips. He's one of the worlds top players...again, I'm just an average hack.
  17. I tried the D3 but went with the "hacker's Titleist", the D-Comp. Easy to hit. Decent distance. Nice sound.
  18. Home course number 13, par 5. Forced carries of the tee and into the green. Bunkers make layups target golf! Green is mean. Undulated and fast. Eagled the hole last Tuesday when my approach dropped in. Pure blind luck!!!!
  19. I've enjoyed my C-130. Very well laid out. It also does well on my pushcart.
  20. I very much enjoy my current LW...58 degrees loft / 14 degrees bounce. It is a natural extension of my wedges PW, 50 degree UW and 54 degree SW. I enjoy the ability to have a full swing club for 60 yards and slightly shorter. It is a beauty out of high lipped bunkers that have near pin locations. I don't use it a ton around the green as my SW is the real workhorse for me. That SW is crazy...so versatile. The LW shares in some of that versatility but not to the same amount. I've tried the additional lofted LWs (60-64 degrees) but they yield poor results for me.
  21. Great advice. Dish soap & warm water...scrub 'em down good and let them dry without rinsing off the soap. Tackiness is enhanced. I prefer cords due to the ever present moisture from either damp winter air (2 short months) or the unreal humidity most of the year. They seem to last longer, too. I regrip every year....every stick but the most important...my putter. It's grip has hardened and worn slick....but I just can't bring myself to change anything about it right now...it's rolling too well.
  22. The rush the op discussed is one of the true joys of the game. I love that feeling!!!
  23. I may head over there for some morning golf Masters weekend and the kick back and watch the tournament on TV.
  24. I can leave my iPhone "on" and the golflogix app active and it will make it through an entire round. I'll use the car charger to get it topped off on the way to the course. Last round I experimented and pressed the lock button in between shots. This conserved the battery considerably. Monoprice.com has some small and very affordable battery boosters for the iPhone...and may have the same for the Droid. I need to get a more golf friendly phone case...like an Otterbox. My leather slimcase is a pain as it doesn't fit in belt holsters.
  25. It's a tough call... I'd not want to be without my gamer that long and don't want to buy or borrow a spare. Pretty much means that the putter is sent mid-December so you aren't impacted too much.
