  1. Being a hack, I generally feel more comfortable playing with other hacks. However, since the question presumes I'd be no worse than a 10 handicap, I'd slightly prefer the 2nd option. I'm no gambler and wouldn't really feel put out shooting worse that the scratch guys. I'd assume the rounds would be faster. There are exceptions, but too many of my fellow hacks blow by their three minutes searching for golf balls.
  2. To my way of thinking, the pro shouldn't have let you off the back if they knew the tee sheets were full. At least in my part of the world, during peak season, nobody playing 18 starts on the back. Maybe in shoulder season, the pro knows the first tee will be open when you make the turn and make an exception. People ask for all sorts of arrangements. Good course management means having to say no to people sometimes.
  3. I'd say that @TapOut64 was correct to call out. Even if the girls didn't do any damage, its a poor idea to encourage non-players to wander around the course. It can be dangerous to them if they aren't walking with the flow of the course and aren't paying attention to their surroundings. Any of us that have been drilled with a golf ball know the damage it can cause. Simply from a legal-liability stand-point, the club really can't have that.
  4. Always summed up my feelings about the man. I'm a life-long Reds fan (took me till 12 to discover hockey). Even though I was pretty young, I remember the excitement when Rose came back to Cincinnati from Montreal and broke Cobb's record. My parents weren't big TV people, so the night he got that hit off Eric Show, I was messing with an ancient black and white we had in the basement. Got it to work just well enough with the rabbit ears to get a half decent picture. It was an exciting moment for sure. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. I suppose it is always tough on kids when their team's major stars show their warts. All those years of denial plus the occasional indication that he may have been an out-right pedophile, makes it hard for me to feel much one way or another. After all, the man is dead.
  5. After the Watson disaster, it really seems like the Browns are hedging their bets with quarterback now. My guess is that Flacco is still seen as the old reliable that can play if need be, but they are just hoping one of the other three can separate himself. Somebody is going to be the odd man out by the time the season starts, so it makes for an easy daily storyline out of Berea come training camp. Still kind of thought that with the 2026 QB class so well thought of, building the other positions made more sense, but nobody is paying me to run a football team.
  6. I think It boils down to what Browns management thinks of Sanders. If the long play is the idea, building up other positions makes more sense than drafting a quarterback you aren't sold on. Let Flacco and Pickett hold down the fort this year.
  7. The long play for sure. It may turn out to be the smart move, but the potential is definitely there for Browns fans to lament it. Jags ought to have a heck of a WR duo with Hunter and BTJ running routes. I'd just be worried about him getting hurt with this fixation on playing both ways.
  8. I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed. Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here. The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
  9. As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go. I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
  10. We do a Secret Santa deal with a $50 limit, so never expecting the moon and stars. I got two boxes of these, which are probably good enough for knocking around casually and that's about all I ever do anymore.
  11. I've been getting in at least nine holes most weekends with about 4 18-hole rounds sprinkled in. There were a couple of exceptions where either the weather was bad on my one day available or the round just fell through because of my playing partners' issues. So the longest period of time has probably been two weeks.
  12. Especially with a muni course, I wouldn't expect too much. At least in my limited experience, it was up to my men's association leadership to determine things like GUR or LCP. Old Kittyhawk was a wild and wooly place. There was one year that we were allowed to rake and place in the bunkers. As much to avoid damaging our clubs on the rocks as much as anything else. In the few cases where GUR wasn't already marked by the course, the Association guys would mark it themselves before one of our events. The course never gave them any grief over that. It does seem a bit odd that a club manager would make a suggestion as he did in @reidsou's case. They generally let our guys run their own show.
  13. The messaging from the Steelers before the season was that Wilson was going to be the starter. It shouldn't be that much of a surprise that they'd want to give him a shot once he was ready. Being from Ohio, I root for our old Buckeyes including Fields, despite his current team. He's always been perceived as not quite a good enough passer to make an NFL team a playoff contender. That's why the Bears let him go. I'm not sure how much better Wilson is at this point, but he's got that pedigree as a passer that Fields never has had. They are different style quarterbacks, so if they really do start Wilson, it will be interesting to see how cohesive the offense looks. The NYJ defense isn't exactly a soft one to start with.
  14. It would certainly be a good thing if more people would at least give walking the course a chance, but "great crime" is awfully melodramatic. On the Faxon end, I think he's probably just speculating that these guys might be new to golf. That position when teeing up the ball normally suggests that. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that newbies would be riders.
  15. I've been to Top Golf a couple of times and both times it was as part of an event. It seemed fine for that purpose. It was food, drinks and a low impact activity as the start of my brother's bachelor party my last visit. There just isn't enough there to warrant repeat business. Couldn't imagine going week after week to Top Golf like we go to our home courses or, for that matter, bowlers to their bowling leagues.
  16. As a hacker, I play a lot of found balls of all sorts. However, when buying I've been generally getting either the Callaway Supersoft or the Wilson Duo Soft. It's probably a coincidence more than anything, but I feel like I've done better with the Callaway product. It's a extra $5 per dozen most of the time, but it's my head now. May be time to ditch the Wilson ball for good.
  17. Dry-weather golfer is probably the most appropriate for me. I will tolerate a little bit of light rain, but as soon as soaking occurs I'm out. Temperature-wise, I'll play in anything from 40 to 95. Significant wind might bump that lower end up 5 or so degrees.
  18. Nope. Miami Shores GC in Troy, Oh wouldn't be considered for a qualifier. Even from the tips, it's only a 68.6/116. Great course for average hackers like me, but not a venue for bigger competitions.
  19. Anytime you are sending teams out to play golf unsupervised you are always going to have these questions. You either have to trust the people playing in the event, not take it too seriously or find a different format.
  20. It's been a remarkable slow start for me this year, but I finally cracked through with my first two birdies of the year over the weekend. Ironically they were the 18th at Community (Hills) GC Saturday and then No. 1 at Miami Shores on Sunday. Don't ask about the rest of them. For the purposes of the chart, I'll just use Miami Shores. Most of the golf I play any more is there and normally the front nine only.
  21. Nah. He's teed off. Kind of wish I were somewhere I could watch it.
  22. Crazy thing for sure. It's still real early to jump to conclusions. The charge list looks pretty intimidating and the 2nd-degree assault charge especially so. It wouldn't surprise me if some of these charges are dropped once the dust settles. Still, Darlington's description does make it sound like Scheffler is going to have some issues going forward.
  23. One that comes to mind ... #2 Jasper Hills GC, par 3 Naturally this one was to save par. Hit two awful shots to find myself on the very front of this fairly large size green. The hole was in the back, left corner with a decent amount of right to left break. I'd only be guessing what the actual distance was, but it was easily over 50 feet. There was so much bend on the back end of the putt that it just seemed really unlikely until the last few seconds when it broke back to the hole, hit the stick dead center and dropped.
  24. Guess I always figured awarding both gross and net kept more people in the hunt and made the overall event more entertaining for more people. At least in our case, we weren't talking about a lot of money either way, so why not give a few more people a shot at a prize?
