  1. I find it funny that there are very few people coming on and saying the rules are the rules as normally happens with "unfair" calls on the golf course... Amazing what happens when the shoe is on the other foot.... I haven't seen the footage but I say if its in the rules play it..... As for if it was legal or not, well I suppose it was, otherwise on review of the situation he would have been D'Q for signing an incorrect score card (like Harrington or Camillo).... Seem's both Charl and the rules official made the right call.....
  2. I use a magnetic one more to protect the other clubs in my bad than the putter itself.... My last putter took a nasty gash out of my 8 iron shaft (graphite) and I've use one ever since... Heck the cover actaully cost more than the putter! Putter = $20 and Cover = $24.95 Have to agree that the velco ones are a PITA but the magnetic ones work fine and are easy to use...
  3. The E5 is a two piece high spin ball The E6 is a three piece low spin ball I play the E5 a lot and think it is easily the best value ball on the market (if paying retail prices) I have played the E6 (still have a sleeve on my desk) and while its an ok ball not really suited for what I want in a ball
  4. As others have said players can play where they like for there own reasons, yes it would be nice for every tournament to have the best of the best but its never going to happen for many reasons... What I have trouble with is your assertion that the PGA is "harder/better" than the euro tour... AND that the players there are getting a free ride and more ranking points for playing there..... I will admit that I watch more Euro tour than PGA (in Australia its normally in a better time slot) but from what I see they are both about the same... Sure you get some dodgy fields in the Euro tour but then again the PGA has its fair share too. My main question is what makes the PGA tour "better/harder" than the Euro tour? Secondly IF your belief is correct and the tours are not level why is there not a bunch of Americans playing on the "easier" tour, amassing a bunch of ranking points to get auto entry into the big tournaments?
  5. What's wrong with the current shaft? What are you looking to get out of a new shaft? I have a similar swing speed to you and my big miss was a ballooning hook.... My club fitter recommended a grafalloy prolaunch blue.... worked well for me but depending on what your trying to achieve other shafts may work better..
  6. While I'm sure there are some that would disagree I personally couldn't care less if my stuff matches or not... I have a Taylor Made cap and towel but do not game their clubs (hat was a present and the towel was the cheapest one in the pro shop when I forgot to bring one!) I also have a Pro V1 cap but generally play Bridgestone or Wilson Staff balls, bought because it was 1/2 price, red and flexi fit... Even so far as my clubs go it doesn't worry me, I play a 51 degree vokey and a 56 degree cleveland.. both were bought on sale when I wanted a change.... If the bag is cheap and you like it why not!
  7. After playing golf seriously for about the last 3 years I find myself with about 20 clubs that could be included in my bag on any given day.... I have Two regular drivers 3W 4W 5W 2H 3H 4H 4i-GW (set) 51 degree wedge 56 degree wedge 60 degree wedge 2 Putters Obviously I can't carry that many so I tend to look at the course and how I'm swinging and choose either 13 or 14 clubs Do you do the same or stick with the same 13-14 clubs? As a side note I've been fitted for both drivers and all my irons and wedges.... I took my hybrids and woods in at the same time but they fitted me enough not to justify the expense of new shafts.. Cheers, Dek
  8. I tried the Maxfli Revolution "U" and really liked it BUT as others have noted I found it cut up far to easily.... At the time it was one of the cheaper Urethane balls I could find.... but now days I can find last years model of a popular ball for similar prices.....
  9. I recently changed from a Fujikura Red Fit On M Stiff to a ProLaunch Red Reg and in my uneducated hands it does indeed feel stiffer... I'm sure someone will say its just the kick point or torque but regardless overall it feels and plays a little firmer than my old Stiff shaft.... Is it right for you? Only you know... My swing speed was recently measured at 80mph with a 7 iron and the Prolaunch was recommended based on my feedback on what the ball was doing with my old shaft and swing speed... I went to the Fujikura as an inbetween step.... Best of luck
  10. I will second two of the above suggestions... AD333 is prob the best all around 2 piece I've played factoring in straightness, spin and distance but I can't seem to get away from the E5(+) as it does seem to hold the greens a little better... If your just looking for more distance I'd also consider the E6 good value, good feel and good distance...
  11. Just got a Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue put in my MX700 (played two rounds) and am starting to really like it.... I can really try to cream the ball and nothing weird goes on... Also still have the Fujikura Fit On M in my Xls and its suits me well too... Interesting the the ProLaunch is an R flex but feels a touch stiffer than the Fujikura in S....
  12. I also use Skydroid on an HTC Desire and it works great. The accuracy is only ever as good as the people entering in the points but I've found 95% of courses online are good enough most of the time. You can always map your own courses via their website and google maps. If you are just entering in the front middle back of the green 18 holes will only take about 15-20 minutes provided you know the course ok. You can also add in a whole heap of other stuff such as water, bunkers, big trees or other features.... I can't remember exactly how many per hole but it is at least 6-7.... As for battery life one tip I can make is alway keep the phone out in the open..... I use the mesh pocket on the front of my bag when carrying or the dash board of the golf cart if driving.... a typically 4-4.5 hour game will typcially use about half the battery.... Put it in a zipped up pocket and it will run flat in about 20 mins!
  13. Not that its going to help you but I found this thread quite inspiring! I hit my irons a similar distance to you (5i=165, 6i=152 7i=140) and have wondered how low I can go until distance becomes a limiting factor... Looks like I have some ways to go! Cheers, Dek
  14. 1) Break 80 2) Have a win in a tournament 3) Hat Trick of Birdies 4) Get an Eagle 5) Get my Hcp into single digits 6) Improve the quality of my practice 7) Play a whole round "in the moment"
  15. I recently bought an Eagles & Birdies stand bag (Arrowhead) and would recommend it to anyone It has 14 way dividers, the legs are the thickest I've seen and best of all it has a sand compartment! Not sure if they are available in the states but I'm sure you could get it online
  16. Euro - Harrington, Jiminez, Donald US - AK, Fowler and Phil Others - Ogilvy, The Big Easy, Jason Day
  17. Clearly I'm biased cause I'm an Aussie I'd say at least one will go to an aussie Day would be my first pick but Scott and Ogilvy have the ability to win too.. Based on watching both tours equaly I'd say 1 to the US (Tiger, Phil or Dustin), 2 to Europe (Westwood, Rory or Harrington) and 1 to "other" (see above)
  18. As a few have said I consider 20+ High, 10-20 Mid and Single digits or better low. As for what consistutes a good golfer, its someone who keeps the pace of play, knows basic ettiquite, can laugh at them selves and others on the course and doesn't take themselves or the game too seriously.... If your talking scoring, from the many rounds I've played with strangers, any one who plays bogey golf or better is "good" in my book, I'd estimate 70% of the people I've played with don't break 100....
  19. I'd get the irons and then choose the wedge.... I've seen PWs go from 43 to 47 (I'm sure some brands are even outside that window) Assuming you are keeping your other wedges then if the PW you buy is a 43 then I'd fill the gap between that and your 52, if its a 47 then no need and grab the 60.
  20. Hey Binga7.. I see your in melbourne.. easily the best advice I can give is go and have a chat with Jon (or someone else!) from Total Golf Performance.... they are down just off Warrigul rd Oakleigh South.... I was recently fit for my whole bag and Jon was great... It cost me $50 for the fitting and $20 per iron to have the adjustments made.... They sell taylor made there too so if you bought clubs off them I'm sure it would be cheaper...
  21. I got a labrador one when my Lab Phoebe passed away and now she watches over every shot... I have actually been known to line my stand bag up so she gets a good view too.... My mates gave me a bit of s*(t when they saw it but after explaining why they "got it"... It is a PITA when putting the rain cover over the clubs but other than that no issues...
  22. Easily the best feeling driver I've hit but the shaft in mine is soft and crap (E150 R Flex IIRC) I've got the 10.5 version and it does sit a touch closed but other than that its a relatively normally looking 460 driver and it has a very hot face..... the ball seems to explode off the face..... Been playing around with the driver in my sig but am going to get the MX reshafted when I take my gap wedge to get bent and then its going in the bag...
  23. I second the recommendation of a book by Bob Rotella, "Putting out of your mind". It talks about, and expands on many of the suggestions in the thread... From a mental point of view he suggests putting like you are going to make them all but not caring if you do.... From a technical point of view I'm certainly not an expert but something that really helped me was focusing on the spot where the ball was for at least 1 second after impact, longer if I could help it... Helped on all putts, long, short, straight or breaking. On short putts I really try not to move my head at all until I hear the ball go into the cup. Best of luck!
  24. If your hitting them fine then I'd be loath to tinker with it but.... Recently I was not so lucky and a club fitting session did wonders... I can't comment on the whole "premium" verses stock arguement but I do know the shaft they put in my driver has helped a lot....
  25. FWIW I perhaps oversimplified my arguement about practice verses "talent".... Let me clarify I have NEVER said that a 30 year old 20+ HCP could make the Pro tour with "a few hours" range practice and a better teacher....But I can guarentee that if I had a golf club in my hand since before I was 1 y/o, spent all of my youth playing golf under good quality instruction I would appear more "talented" than I do today.... but the fact would be I would be no more "talented" that I am today... More skillfull yes, talented no.... Please do not confuse skill with talent.... In the case of sports where size makes a difference I can partly see the other side of the arguement but physical charaterists are just that, they are not talent... This article touches on just how much practice and thought process can overcome physical limitations http://www.sciencentral.com/articles...e_id=218392857 So far the "facts" I have heard to support the arguement that talent is real are as follows 1)The Pros are that good that there has to be something they have that I don't.... Rather than thinking maybe I didn't work as hard or as smart or have the opportunity that they had we immediately say "well they just have more talent then me" sorry but still feels like a cop out.... Sure they have more skill but as I said before don't confuse skill with talent 2)Its genetic. Are you serious? Sure if you were born with one arm it might pose a problem but how do genetics come into it... Its not like there is a golfing gene going around.... Are you trying to say that identical twins separated at birth would poses the same golf ability 30 years later, if one started at 5 and the other at 25? The irony of the arguement from my perspective is until fairly recently I would have said "of course talent exists" without really even giving it a thought... But the more I read and the more I think about it the less I think it is the case.... A google search reveals this isn't the first place for this debate to take place...
