Best putting advice I saw recently - keep your head still through the entire stroke and through contact. When I first heard this, I thought it was obvious, but I was really moving my head back and forth a lot during the stroke. Now I'm putting a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, I love my driver have hit some great drives Last round when I pulled 3 drives OOB (on 3 of the shortest par 4s), I also crushed back-to-back drives on long par 4s to go birdie-par. There doesn't seem to be much of an advantage being 120 yards away (for me this is a light PW) vs 150 yards away (a full 9-iron), especially when the driver can be erratic.

"Do unto others" definitely applies on the golf course. A few rounds ago I found a cell phone on the golf course and picked it up. Whoever lost it called after I found it, and I told her I'd leave it at the starter for her. What use do I have for someone else's cell phone, let alone someone's used club?

When I was on the golf team we all would talk about our club selections during practice. The better players would all use about the same club, and I'd usually take one extra club. Whenever the coach heard us talking, he always said the same thing "Use what works for you." That's the only advice I listen to on the tee box now.

overpowering the course not the best way to go?

I don't have any specific distance that I like to play from inside 100 yards, but if I can take OB out of play, I would certainly consider taking a 3wood, hybrid, or iron. -
Unfortunately you'll only improve with more practice. Get out there as much as possible, keep a positive attitude, and work on your game.

I would suggest Under Armour underwear and polyester shirts if you haven't got them already. I never leave for the course without either, and it definitely will help if you are playing so frequently. As far as mentally, just get excited. I would love to be able to play that much. Eat, think, sleep golf, but drink if you want to and have a great time otherwise.

Last round, I hit 3 horrible drives that cost me 6 strokes. The ironic thing was I probably didn't need to use a driver since two of the holes were under 400 yards. I can go 220+ with my hybrid or 240+ with my 3-wood, and I would only be a mid iron away. I usually hit the driver well, but it is a high-risk club. Do any of you use a lesser club on shorter holes, even if ostensibly there is enough room for a driver?

I might be willing to play, but would drive myself. If somehow you got a weekend time, I would definitely pay a bit more for the tournament premium.

You gotta cut that thing down to at least a 10.

Anyone ever use the Swingyde? I just bought one on EBay and want to know if anyone has any advice on how to use it effectively to help my slice.
-
The physics of it are simple: To hit a draw/hook, swing inside-out with a closed clubface. To help you swing inside out, put your left foot closer to the ball than the right. To help close the clubface, either start with it slightly closed, or strengthen your grip (rotate hands to the right while keeping the club in the same place) For a fade/slice, do the opposite.

I'm not going to kid myself into thinking I can have a tour swing, even with 6 hours of practice a day. There are certain traits - balance, flexibility - that I'll never have. I can improve each of these to a certain point, but every player on tour has GREAT balance and flexibility.

I have a 54 degree wedge with 12 degrees bounce, and a 58 degree with 10 bounce. Although I originally bought the 54 to be my sand wedge, I have been using the 58 more often, partly because I get concerned that I won't have enough loft to get out of the bunker. However, today I switched to the 54 on the back 9 and I had good success. Should I use the 54 degree exclusively? I'm inspired to improve my bunker play because I've seen so many good shots this week at Augusta that seem so effortless.

I got my new Cobra Baffler TWS 18 degree 2H in the mail yesterday and immediately put it in my bag for today's round. I never had a hybrid. Without any practice, my first shot with it was at the 4th tee, and it went perfectly straight and about 220 yards. I used it off the tee 3 more times, and each time it went perfectly straight and 220 yards. I have to say I am quite pleased with my purchase. It fills the gap between my 5w and my 3w just as I hoped it would, and so far I'm 4/4 hitting fairways!

All this is true. Tour pros are much better ball strikers than any of us. Unfortunately, the reality is that most of these guys were hitting perfect shots before they turned 8. In other words, they have natural ability that we don't. Because most of us will never be able to strike the ball that well, the short game is one area which we can all improve and lower our scores.

Probably haven't seen any because it's completely illegal. But would definitely work in a practice round if you weren't allowed to carry a bag.

I think there is a difference when talking about 1-10 handicap and 11-20 handicap. In the latter group (where I am), I believe without any improvement to ball-striking, a player can get to about a 10 range by improving their short game. It often takes 3 or 4 shots for me to get up and down from within pitching distance. If I miss 2/3 of the greens, I could be 15-20 shots over par on holes when I miss the green. If you are under 10 handicap, you will have to improve all aspects of your game, including ball-striking, to get into scratch territory. In the third group (over 20), yes, ball-striking does have to improve before getting down to a 20. These players mis-hit the ball too often, and are often over par before even getting within pitching distance. Hdcp 1-10: Improve all aspects of game Hdcp 11-20: Improve short game Hdcp 21+: Improve ball striking

Couldn't care less about fashion, but I like to see which brands the guys are repping. Personally I'm on an Under Armour kick.

Saw Tim Clark still using the yellow ball today. Not 100% sure, but I think Furyk went back to a white version.

Definitely depends on the school. My school didn't make cuts, and everyone got to practice with the team. Other teams we played their top 8 were all under 40 for 9 holes. Either way, I wholeheartedly recommend him joining the team. Playing 9 holes after school for 4 days a week is the best experience you could possibly ask for.

Totally agree with this. I can find a range anywhere, but practice greens are few and far between. Maybe because you can't make money if people are hitting their own balls from short distance rather than buying a bucket of balls? Back in DC, there was a 3 hole practice course that you could use for 10 bucks an hour or so. I suspect the best bet is finding a local course with good practice greens. One of the publics in my area has separate large chipping and putting greens. Hopefully they won't have a problem with me using the facilities without playing.

I've found the mid-grade balls better suited for my balls than the-top grade balls. The ProV1s seemed to have less distance and more spin - more difficult for me to find the fairway.

Ernie Els - have been in love with his swing since the first time I saw him play. He's playing well this year. Also have a soft spot for Camilo Villegas and his "cobras," and Anthony Kim who I saw win two years ago at the AT&T; National.

How do you mark your ball for identification?
