  1. I'm thinking that the changes won't be as drastic as Patch see them, only in the fact that the last 100 years has seen a lot of change, but then so has the world in general. I think the biggest change could be in materals that make balls and clubs, likely that some super compound will make balls everything you ever wanted and some new metal will be created for clubs that make them amazing, but all in all, golf will be played the same way, in the same places.
  2. I'm a fan of Jack, so I would go with the picture you have or the tossing of the putter in the British Open. I never celebrate on the course, if I make a long putt or hit a really good iron, I figure I got away with one and don't want to bring attention to myself by the golf gods!
  3. I would completely agree, but generally speaking I would bet that you will hit the club with the stronger loft further.
  4. Another option might be the Wilson Duo, soft ball, low spin.
  5. I was thinking the same thing, but if you are a newbie to the sport, you probably haven't learned how to cut corners and get decent clubs and play on decent courses without paying large sums of money. You have to admit, we all have ways to save a few bucks, but it took us some time and mistakes to figure it out, so for a new person I can see them thinking golf is expensive.
  6. I would tend to agree, but the fact that Snead's record has stood for so long and Snead is consider one of the all time greats, I hope he see's it as a big deal. I think it's a big deal, IMHO, if Tiger breaks Snead's record, I could see that record hold up for a significant amount of time. Over Tiger's 18 seasons as a pro he's averaging over 4 wins a season, that's a career year for almost every other pro, Rory's only had one 4 win or better season and Phil has had three 4 win seasons.
  7. Kind of the same for me, I'm not into one device for all uses just yet. I like having a specific device for golf. It stays in my bag and has but one purpose. It is also more suited to that one purpose than my phone, sometimes I play in the rain or other adverse conditions and my Skycaddie is more suited to those conditions than my phone. I'm not a huge fan of the yearly subscription, but on the other hand, I did a 3 year membership, paid something like $100, which is like 2 greens fees. So I figure I'll just skip playing 2 rounds of golf over the next 3 years to make up the difference.....yea.....right!
  8. Grandchild #3 will be conceived!
  9. TaylorMade and Callaway have used club sites, sometimes they have pretty good deals.
  10. One of the courses here in KC actually did a really smart thing with entry and exit from cart path to fairway. They have the zoysia grown from the fairway to the cart path at the points you can enter the fairway and exist, so the rough never gets beat up and no real "wear" spots of entry and exit as the zoysia can handle the traffic.
  11. MHO, the boss is an ass, sounds like he's wanting to show his authority over everyone. Personally, I would tell the friend that I'm happy to play golf with him but not with the boss.
  12. +1 to this, Adams makes a wide variety of hybrids, I would suggest going to a golf store, demo some of them, then look for them on eBay. I actually bought a hybrid off eBay, played it for a while, then resold it on eBay and bought another one. Did that with 4 or 5 kinds before I settled on a TaylorMade.
  13. I see carts in fairway only a lot here in the midwest, especially on courses with zoysia fairways and bluegrass or fescue rough. As we battled with drought conditions for a couple of years, the rough couldn't stand the traffic but the fairways could as fairways were watered but rough, not so much. As bkuehn1952 stated, it's a balance between pace of play and wear and tear, honestly, zoysia fairways show little if any wear from golf carts.
  14. I think it should be amateurs competing in Olympic golf, we see the best Pro's compete all the time, I'd like to see it as something different and special to amateurs.
  15. I honestly can't remember the first time I broke 80, but it had to be 15 years after I took up the game "seriously". I played in high school, stopped while I was in college and first married and starting a family. Picked it back up when I was in my late 20's and have been playing regularly for the last 30 years. I probably broke 80 twice when I was under 50, after turning 50 (still playing for the same tees) I've broken 80 at least a dozen times, with a personal best of 73 last year.
  16. Pitcher or Quaterback. And forget John Brodie, I think for both positions, there's a element of picturing what you want the ball to do and then executing what you picture. Probably a reason why so many pitchers and quaterbacks are good golfers,
  17. I have no data to support more intervals on tee times will or won't speed up pace of play, but I know for a fact that the two ladies that always tee off around the same time we do play fast. They ride a cart, we both walk, but anyway you shake it, they play faster than us. They don't hit drive much more the 175 yards, but they hit them straight, so they never look for a ball and they move it out. I think slow play starts with the mentality of the people playing.
  18. All for Leyna - Billy Joel Amanda - Waylon and Willie Beth - Kiss Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes Brandy - Looking Glass Carolene - Bob Welch Dizzy Miss Lizzy - Beatles Eleanor Rigby - Beatles Frank and Lola - Jimmy Buffet Gloria - Patty Smith Hannah Jane - Hootie and the Blowfish Jack and Jill - Raydio Julia - Beatles Lorelei - Styx (the greatest american rock band, if not for some cynical a$$holes) Lovely Rita - Beatles Maggie May - Rod Stewart I could go on, but enough is enough.......
  19. Wilson Elite 50, soft and only $13 a dozen.
  20. I'm a fan of the GPS devices and it really depends on the courses you play, just which one might be best. I have the Skycaddie SG5, my brother has a Garmin, we find that our yardages are never the same, but always consistent, his is always 2 yards more than mine, trivial I know. Also, the course that we joined is an older course, greens are round, some a little oval, none any more than 30-35 yards, front to back, so front/back/middle is all that is required and one of the watches would be more than sufficient. However, if you play a variety of courses, and courses you've never played before, the full GPS is better, as it will show you the hole layout and has a lot more features. As far as which company to go with, kind of a toss up, there is a yearly fee for the Skycaddie, but about the cost of one green fee. Mine does only hold 20 courses at a time, and I've forgot to load a new course that we were going to play, that can be a bit of a problem.
  21. Same for me, I have found little correlation between how I hit balls on the range the day before or in warming up just before the round as to what I might score for the round.
  22. Same for me, "hitting" the ball is just one part of scoring, how I hit the ball on the range the day before or during warm up just before the round give me very little indication of what score I will have at the end of the day.
  23. Christine Kim, IMHO, would be the first lady I would want to play a round of golf with, she is a character, but I'd put her on the worst dressed list.
