Golds are the seniors here and I've started playing them as I qualifyby age to be a senior. At my course and those around here that I'll play, golds are generally set at the most forward position of the whites, usually 10 or so yards closer, maybe 15. But the main advantage I enjoy on the golds is the shorter yardages on the par 3s, making my almost impossible 190ish yarder down to a comfortable 7iron or 6 iron, a more enjoyable playable distance in my bag. It makes for me the chances to ace one a lot more possible nowaday, and to be honest, since I can't seem to cut lots of strokes off my score, those 4 holes on the card are my most highly anticipated for the round.

who was it that made the statement about the most important distance was the six inches between the ears ? So his missing those pesky four or five footers are not mental ? Was reacting to his caddy in the USOpen not mental ? Sure, his mechanics have developed a hitch but to take mental out of this game (even a pro) is rediculous.

but you don't think he has changed mentally because of getting a life partner ? (and it is a lot different from day to day challenges)

Not much play around here, it's really wet in the early morning and doesn't dry out till about the fifth or sixth, then the heat turns on. It's also when the workers try to do stuff out there. and I play early when I do play. Evenings don't cool off at all till 9 or so and ever now and then, we get pop up thundershowers with lots of lightening at dusk too. Played a week ago at the premier river course early and by 15, my concentration was shot,getting weak , finished by 1pm. It was fairly empty. So, I've been on this dang computer and watching a lotta golf on the tv; went to the golf shop today looking for a 21* hybrid or a putter or a driver (used me hopes). It's always a challenge playing down here during the middle of the summer, especially as I have aged a little. used to work out in it - huh ??? It is a record breaking summer for us - and only 5July ! We can play thru most of the time during winter months though, get the good rolls !

Real shame the club can't keep it (fairly) clean for play if it has to have the range so close. Games hard enough to score without something like this to penalize a playable shot.

Reason alone why I love GolfChannel, EuropeanPGA and the beautiful countryside scenes from these tourneys. not to mention the great waking up tv.

This is a little long and I am not in defense of the Masters or the AugustaNationalGolfClub but a perspective from a local (that has attended since GeorgeArcher won, at least thats the first one I remember). By the way, the National is weeding out us locals as the badge bearer passes from this earth, and it seems nobody local is being picked up by the lottery. Here lately (last several years), we see nobody that we know. This is a golf course that is open for member play from some time before the tournament to end of October. Did not realize you had never attended; I thought all working PGA pros got access during tournament week (or some such). The barnyard odor at this years' event was stuff put on the patron access areas to prevent slipping and falling, whether it was common hay, pinestraw, or that granular. I have seen many a wet ass in years past, from teenagers to the old girls and it is hilly, whether as much one anticipates or not. One thing about the Masters is the pride that the membership has to show off the tournament and make it a special visit for the patrons. Safety first for these folk. This golf course is changing every year it seems and it held a womens' amatuer just the week before, adding more fans on the course. Add to this the very real 5-6 inches of rain in that period before opening and an actual 2inches during a terrible storm tournament week (Mon after dark, me thinks) and officials have no choice. Believe me, many many years, it has no barnyard odors but April also is a typically wet time of the year around here. otherwise, it smells like $$$. This hay is spread magically overnight after serious weather passes thruout all areas that are trod upon. I'm surprised you did not mention the restroom facilities and staff running them. How much did parking cost you ? People can't live without there phone, can they ? for one day, or half a day, huh ?? Do yall actually think the National runs off the wildlife ? You see no bugs simply because there is very little bare dirt inside the gates. The 'sub-air' system was installed several years ago, not that many, so that conditions on the course would be playable as soon as could possibly be; again, this time of the year sees much rain, check past tournaments. A local company evolved from this technology and is spreading thru the industry. and it's not that inconvenient or offensive unless you are having the MarilynMonroe moment mentioned and standing directly on top of the exhaust. It's fairly impossible to follow a favorite golfer; best to set up in a spot and let them come to you - and you'll see plenty golf shots. Move to another spot and do the same thing. The grandstands are good for this and stratigically located; hey maybe thats where the roars come from !! Then go home (or to your room or rental) and watch it on your 55" if you want to watch the tournament and see scores and not put up with other folks. Remember, you are here to admire the course first, then see golf. I suppose it's been built up so much by the TV folk that ever body expects a heaven on earth place and it is close but it's only a manmade wonder. Now you talk about effort, you shoulda seen the tournament and course TWO MONTHS after the icestorm of 2014(?) when Ikes tree was taken out. An unbelievable achievement that the event and course was even done after that storm if you consider all the 100ft pines that did not go down (i can't imagine how many did). It was a disaster situation all throughout the area.

I try not to ask a lot of anybody anymore but these factors mentioned are ones I try to avoid on the course, I don't play in the rain intentionally, hands stay dry normally, and I'd like a durable grip that will last a reasonable period of use.

yes, this is more for your general input, personal preferences, ect. I need to replace my irons NOW and there,'s so much to look at, I just wanted a direction to steer maybe. Thanks

This Masters takes me to equipment questions for you all; what grip is the best overall for good positive play without having to consider stuff like weather or sweat or wear ect. Same style for woods vs. irons ? Short irons ? Until this season it seems that (as advertised) Titleist was the pros' choice for golf ball, Is it this way for grips also with the pros ? Do they all use corded grips ? How about today at the tournament, I'm watching them warm up in the rain and it got me wondering. I'm comfortable with tour wrap grips on my woods (I was a Sergio fan before his fit this year and installed Lamkin tour wrap) and my ping eye2 irons have a corded winn type grip just because I haven't changed them out like I should. Years ago, I used tour wraps on all clubs, they were so comfortable. But they were really slick when in the rain. and my pings came with the corded winn type grips. My grip on the club is a relaxed light grip and I have no problem with sweating hands and do not wear a glove (I see no need at this time). Opinion and choice and experience is appreciated ...

Iits a shame that a rule such as this can be so black and white, especially since it seems that the official rules of golf have changed on this subject. I like gray - and the tradition that the game is an honorable game among gentlemen (or ladies). Meanwhile, if you think about it, a touring pro can wave on his playing partner with subtle knowledge that the shot could be helped with him not marking his ball. What if you had this same attitude and allowed other three golf partners play without marking - ALL THE WAY UP TO THE HOLE !! Definitely think that any 'accidental collision' with an incoming shot would have finished the deed. I've not had an ace yet - in 35 years of pure enjoyment, although I've come real close - once, at JonesCreek in Evans, Ga, I 'slam dunked' a tee shot (165yds or so downhill) and the cup burped it out for a 2 inch bird. and on a side note, JonesCreek, a real gem of an upscale course 20 minutes from MagnoliaLane, has closed down (not two months from the tournament which is such a huge week around here for courses). Good for you on previous aces, I can't wait !!

to re-open this thread about the line marked on balls, to me, it helps drastically; as I stand behind the ball checking the line, it focuses on the immediate line of travel I may be looking for. Ima start using it on the tee now that somebody above mentioned it. On the tee, I normally find a mark several feet beyond the ball for aim. Alignment is key for me (and relatively simple, no moving parts). Reasons for the update on this thread is if there was ever a reason for a simple rule change (like for instance, caddies helping with the alignment), then this would be on top of the list , it seems. and no controversial calls either...

I cut the cord and am struggling thru set-up with my tv futures. I miss golf channel terrible. I am trying to understand streaming and options to cable. I have not searched here yet and hope yall can walk me thru it. Nothing like those early sunday morning european tourneys or thurs/fri golf on tv.
