  1. Maybe try what Hank did with Ray. Take a nice steep backswing. At the top, allow your arms to drop. Literally drop them, and then complete your swing. Over-exaggerate everything.
  2. Take your normal set-up. Move back foot a full 18" backwards (not kidding). Start swinging. You might scare everyone around you, but you'll quickly learn the feeling of bringing the club back on plane and bringing it forward inside to out. Pay attention to the feeling and then try to replicate with a more standard set-up.
  3. Several threads on here about P90X. I'd suggest looking up Insanity put out by the same people. Very similar, but no weights involved. Will absolutely kick anyone's ass unless you are about .2% of the population. Involves heavy core building along with yoga.
  4. So the kids (wife) got me a "9 hole teaching round" with the course pro at a very nice local course for father's day. I can obviously guess what it involves based on the description, but I'm wondering if anyone else has done this and what its all about. Do we go out at a non-peak time and hit multiple balls at every shot? Do we just play 9 holes and shoot the shit? Will I get something out of this? Regardless, I think its a very cool gift.
  5. I actually love the idea, simple concept, very easy to use. Couldn't you set it closer to the ball and also work on your swing path? One bad out to in swing and you'd crush that pole and probably drive it into your eye.
  6. Google "burning driver as sacrifice to golf gods". Perform ceremony. You'll be fine.
  7. My buddy is about an 8 hcp. To hit his best score, he leaves all woods in the bag and tees off with his 3 iron, which goes anywhere from 210 to 230 off a tee. If he decides to work on driver during a round, I actually have a chance to make the score close if I'm playing well. He could lose 5 shots in the woods, something he never does with the irons. I'm guessing the guy you played with is similar.

It may have been stated already (didn't read the entire thread), but another great alternative is Insanity. Same concept, put out by the same people, just no weights or straps needed. Many of the same routines and moves are used. Don't let the no weights fool you- it is still incredibly intense and difficult and you will build muscle if you follow the program.
  9. I pressed 225 for 13 reps and 250 for 8 reps when I was in college. 5'10" and weighed 185 at the time. Not really a big deal if you actually lift and have trainers. But honestly, I think you're all gay, debating Phil vs Tiger body... just saying....
  10. Home course is $4500 for the year, $5500 for couples, $6000 for family up to 4.
  11. I believe the best golfers work on their swing during practice, which takes time, repetition, and analysis. Video has to help. But its a means to an end. The goal is to then go play golf, and not have to think about the swing. The best golfer is one that can walk up to a ball, decide exactly what he needs to do, and make the correct swing with little thought.
  12. I was given this book about 14 years ago when I first picked up a club. I had been asking a friend who is a very good golfer to bring me to the course for some tips. Instead, he gave me the book and told me to read it cover to cover three times, and then start working on the ideas contained within. I did as I was told an over the course of about 2 years and minimal playing, I developed a halfway decent game(low to mid 80s). Life happened and I have now averaged about 3-4 rounds a year since then. This year, I got the bug again and went to look for my book. Couldn't find it. So I just ordered and received my second copy. Very excited, I plan to follow the routine once again and believe/hope I'll find that game.
  13. I think chipping off a driving mat will accomplish what you're looking for and hurt you less than the tee. I'd go to the range and go through a bucket from the mats, working on distance and height control. Some say placement of the ball and swing height (full, 3/4, 1/2, etc) is the only thing that separates 30 yards from 100.
  14. Only 6 PGA professionals are averaging over 300 this year.
  15. I'm sure fatigue had something to do with it, but it's mostly the swing. I'll have it happen occasionally on the range, usually I'm hitting very fat and making terrible contact.
  16. You said posture wasn't important. So this must be a trick question. Do I win the prize???
  17. I'll buy most of what you're slinging, except for... "You need to have the perfect grip. Same for your stance, posture, alignment..." Sorry, I think grip, posture and alignment are all important.
  18. I often score 5-6 pars and still end up over 100. Penalty strokes just kill me, and when you throw a few 8's on the card, its easy to drive the final score up. I've had streaks of 8,8,4,3,8,8 way too many times.
  19. Could it be just a bad grip? Close the club face ever so slightly and see what happens. Maybe your setup is just off a hair.
  20. Big muscles should move the little muscles, right? If not, the tail is wagging the dog...
  21. Any chance you guys are saying the same thing? Doesn't the proper hip turn cause the lower "trunk" to move forward towards the target?
  22. I doubt he's lying. He's hitting the same flat stretch of land over and over again, into a rough circle, not a green. Good practice for striking, but not really golf, right? To the OP, I think you got some good advice. Keep working on it. For 12 years I hit nothing but slices, fades or straight shots. As I take up the game again this year and overhaul my swing, I hit mostly hooks and draws. Its frustrating as hell, uncomfortable, but I have to believe that I'm making progress.
  23. I love when the douchebags come out to comment. They'll tell you how you can't 'pure' a shot with that club. How most people have never 'pured' a shot. F them. Hey, if that club works for you, great. Hope it does. Good luck-
  24. Anyone read The Golf Swing, his first book? I have always thought it may be the perfect instructional book for the masses. Speaks of the athletic swing, and doesn't concern itself with fades, draws, fixes, clubs selection, anything. Just pure athletic swing. If you have read it, please let me know where he screws up.
  25. 1. Golfer is ultimately responsible. 2. Pro completely mishandled the incident. 3. All smart businesses carry liability insurance, golf courses included. Only the dumb would not. 4. If an altercation ensued, the golfer would have a very strong case against the golf course. 5. Speaking of insurance, what happens if the car occupants were hurt driving the golf cart? They didn't pay for golf, didn't release the course of liability. 6. Theoretical situation- car occupants head to the course, beat up golfer, get injured driving cart back. All parties sue golf course and end up owning it. Yeah, pro did a great job...
