"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (April 2016)
Avalanche replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Swung by the practice green on the way to work. Practiced chipping and short pitches for 20 minutes. Been practicing my short game a lot lately. Mostly with my 7-iron for chipping and 52-08 gap wedge short pitches. Can't do much practice putting. They just aerated the practice green yesterday. Pachinko putting! -
I had a run of dumb luck this morning! Woke up about 20 minutes before the deadline and realized I hadn't looked at my starting lineup since Tuesday. Found out that my starter JB Holmes had pulled out. So I inserted Henrik Stenson, and made a couple other changes. I dumped my A starter Sergio Garcia and decide to start Ricky Fowler instead. I replaced Sergio with Dustin Johnson on my bench. I also swapped out B player Alex Cejka for Kevin Chappel. These all worked out pretty good. So far anyway. I feel like the time last fall I hit a 190 yard approach shot that was headed towards a bunker. It hit a rake, bounce about 15 feet up in the air, and ended up two feet from the hole. Dumb luck!

Ha ha! Yeah, I had Spieth and Garcia in my A slots too. Started Sergio. I don't feels as bad striking out with Sergio as I would have with Spieth. Because you just know Spieth is going to shake off this slump.

Yeah, that would work. Except I use two bags, depending on whether I'm walking or riding. My walking bag is real light, and I don't keep a bunch of extra stuff in it. It's my lightweight walking bag that's ripped. And I don't think I'd want something swinging on the outside of my bag while I'm hoofing it around the course.

After a buying spree last season I think I'm all set for clubs. The only club I still have in my bag that I had last February is my 52 Vokey gap wedge. But now I have a rip in the ball pocket of my golf bag. So I guess I need a new bag now.

Two things: I want to birdie each hole on my home course during the course of the year. And I want to improve my short game—chipping and putting. Not sure I can put exact number goals on the short game. But I want to get somewhere north of 60% on both 8 foot putts and on up and downs from 20 yds and in.

What is the single worst common on-course breach of etiquette?

None of the listed poll items particularly bother me. I'm one of those lucky ones who is able to tune out noise or movement when I'm making a shot. (My wife doesn't think this is a *good* trait. Probly due to me tuning her out too. lol) One thing that bothers me is when people, mostly kids I think, spit sunflower seeds on the green. I encountered this two or three times last year. Another is when a group jumps in front of me--especially if I'm playing alone and it slows me down. It doesn't happen often, although it did happen twice on the same nine holes a couple months ago. The first group, a father and his daughter, apologized for not seeing me and asked me to play through. No harm, no foul. The second group of jumpers was an old man and old woman who played slow as heck. I wonder if their ears were burning as they played in front of me the last two holes of the nine? lol -
Thanks! Hey, congrats on the win in week one!

I figured out the problem. I have an old, seldom used, junk mail yahoo account that I used a couple years ago to avoid getting junk-email at work. I signed into TST last week from work by hitting the "sign in with Google" button. When I did that it automatically signed me into that old yahoo junk mail account instead of my regular yahoo account. (I guess my Google+ is associated with the old junkmail yahoo account.) So now my lineup is associated with that junkmail yahoo account instead of the one I've used for fantasy teams for several years. Oh well. No biggie.

I've tried signing out of yahoo, and signing in again. In fact I tried clearing my browser and signing in. The link http://golf.fantasysports.yahoo.com takes me through the process of-- setting up a new team--asks me to pick a team name, read the terms and conditions, etc. Like I said above I've had quite a few yahoo fantasy teams over the years and never experienced anything like this before. At work tomorrow when I'm logged in to my team I'll cut and paste the url into an email and send it to myself, then try that url from hom. Maybe that will work. /shrug btw, Sorry for cluttering up this thread with this.

Team name: Avalanche of Stokes. I missed the first round, so that's me down around #45. I can see my TST golf fantasy team from work now. But I still can't access it from home--even when I'm signed into the very same yahoo account. I can see my yahoo fantasy football teams from both home and work, but the fantasy golf team only shows up at work and not at home. I tried the link in your post but it simply asks me if I want to create a new team and join the league. Really an odd problem. I'll fool around trying to figure it out a bit more. But I can't spend time at work putting together my lineup each week. That's a home task. lol

Having problem with Yahoo. Need help: Yesterday I couldn't log on from work. When logged into Yahoo I could see the two Yahoo college football fantasy games I'm currently playing, but my TST golf game didn't show up under the list of Yahoo games. But when logged in from home yesterday I everything worked just fine. Today it's just the opposite. I accessed the TST Yahoo fantasy golf game at work a couple hours ago, but I it doesn't show up on my list of current fantasy teams now that I'm at home logged into Yahoo. Real weird. I've managed a couple dozen Yahoo fantasy teams over the past several years and never had a problem like this. Any suggestions?

I'm in! Better late than never. I guess.

When I see right where my ball landed, but can't find it when I get up there and search. It happened just last week. My tee shot bounced twice in a left-to-right sloping fairway. Twice! And I saw right where it went. It should have been just a few feet into the rough, but I finally had to give up searching for it. Oh sure, I realize it's my own fault. But it makes me MAD! Mad at the world!

If it helps, sure, put on that righty glove. Not for me though. It's a big enough pain in the ass removing one glove when I putt, let alone two. (For me, softer putting touch without a glove. Although I see some wear a glove to putt.)
-
Ha ha! I think Pierson v. Post would apply only if your tee shots are incredibly wild and unpredictable. Like a wild animal. LINK On a serious note, if a homeowner claims ownership of balls that land in his yard would he forego any damages for the ball that crashes through his window? Seems like you can't have it both ways.

The Don for President? Psshaawwww! Deez Nuts would perform far better in the White House. LINK (That's a perfectly safe link, btw.)

Shot 39 a couple days ago, last time I played. With three holes to go, I needed three pars to hit forty. Went par-par-birdie. Got the birdie thanks to a lucky approach shot bounce on the last hole. The ball hit a rake or something just off the green. Bounced up in the air, and ended up about three feet from the hole. /clean living

^^ This. Isn't that the point of a gimme, after all? To not waste 30 seconds on a putt that's a sure thing. I can't image taking a gimme for anything over 18 inches, or maybe a straight uphill two-footer. And I wouldn't give a gimme for anything other than a putt like that. To be honest, a gimme is more of a match play thing. Probly shouldn't concede anything in stroke play. Especially if you're figuring on posting the round.

Either/don't care. Depends on who I'm talking to. Non-golfers know what the British Open is, but aren't as likely to know what the Open Championship is. Golfers are more likely to appreciate the correct name, which is The Open Championship.

That's an awesome stat. Where did you get it? (I'm not disputing it. I want to use it.)

I was sailing along nicely on a beautiful, sunny day, until the 600 yard dogleg par 5 caused a shipwreck and sunk my round.
