Really awesome! Do you get the video of video game version of @coachjimsc swing?

Probably has to be cash. Also official World Golf Ranking points would be a nice addition. To be fair this is cyclical. Next year might be very different, and so on.

Can We Stop Talking About Millennials Entering the Work World?
mchepp replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in The Grill Room
I am not sure that "working their butts off" has anything to do with grit, but I take your point. My comment was made in jest, at how the boomers always said our generation was so "soft". My personal feeling is that the younger generation I have interacted with are much more cognizant of the challenges we face as a society, especially with respect to race relations and climate change. I am extremely hopeful for the new generation. -

The class should be titled: "How everyone younger than me has no grit" At least it would be accurate then. -
I think the President Cup by itself isn't that exciting. Its peak was the year Tiger and Ernie had the playoff. The Ryder Cup is a stronger event (more competitive) and has the additional history. I like the idea of spicing it up. Many of the Asian woman are very good which could strengthen the international team quite a bit.

Have You Ever Carried a 'Gimmick' Club in Your Bag?
mchepp replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've never tried any of these. I have sort of made my own gimmick club. I took a 12 degree Ping driver and pulled the shaft and put a 3 wood shaft in. I have a bunch of lead stickers on it to get the swing weight back. I have looked at clubs like the teeless driver to replace it, but I love the large face that driver/3w has. I have tried and tried to replace it but so far nothing has. -
What on Earth Does That Mean? Golf Marketing

An additional benefit. In addition the FTC is probably too busy counting their money from trade tariffs at the moment to worry about golf advertising. -
What on Earth Does That Mean? Golf Marketing
mchepp replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Love this topic. The statement "increased playability" is perfect for the marketers mind. Simply because you will put whatever meaning comes to your mind when you hear it. Because it doesn't mean anything specific it actually works to fit whatever you think of when you hear it. I think the better way to think about golf marketing is what is it supposed to do to you in your buying journey. I think the ad in Golf Digest is to add to whatever buzz you have already heard. It isn't meant to help you make a buying decision but get you to a demo day or asking your club pro about it. Or better yet search the internet about it. That way when your pro mentions it, your mind has already heard about it and it confirms whatever your mind already thinks. Golf marketing in general is herd marketing. PXG is the only stand out, but they are building a luxury brand and moving closer to the herd. Herd means they all say the same thing in order to hopefully differentiate by spending more on TV pros who pedal their stuff or hooking you at the time of sale. -
I very much agree that this is the big question. Will it stay or drop off like it did in in the early 2000's. I think it will be slow drop off to back to where we were. Probably a year or so. But when the kids sporting events like soccer and little league come back and people are going into the office again, it will drop off again. But who knows.

I use one at my regular course and I don't mention I putt dramatically better than before. I still have to get my aim right, and most importantly get the speed right. It really doesn't matter how long I stare at that darn book if I blow it by 4 feet. I think it makes very little difference in the overall scheme of things.

Yes, I am ready to be done with molding foam. Also it would be great to get bunker rakes back.

I agree. I felt that it was a review of what happened and did not add much to the story. If you followed what happened during that time at all, even in a passing fashion nothing was new from the documentary. Ultimately, I don't know why Tiger would mind what was in either episode. It was maybe a bit rough on his father, but the main message was, as humans we all have flaws. For the money he earned, came the fame, and the microscope of the media. They like to amplify his faults for their benefit (clicks). The one take away for me, was it reminded me how he mismanaged the aftermath. He should have fired his PR team. Maybe he did, but the weird blue room press conference was unnecessary. That was his private life and he should have just said that.

I watched the first half and I felt like @DeadMan It was well done. The high school girlfriend was a bit strange at times but otherwise it was a nice view into his life. I am very skeptical of part 2. They intro’d with the supposed madam. That can’t be a good sign. Either way, I’ll watch it.

I agree that this news isn't great. He came in at a pretty unstable time and not only stabilized but moved things in a positive direction.

I have played some really enjoyable rounds with strangers. I am a people watcher by nature and you can learn so much about someone after 4 hours of golf. Plus now with COVID they give you your own cart making the least pleasant part (trying to figure out what kind of cart partner you have) much better. I would say 90% of the things that bug me about pairing up come from riding (or driving) with someone else in the cart.

So many dang things to think about over the ball. No wonder golf takes so long!

Anyone Watching No Laying Up's Tourist Sauce
mchepp replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Here is the view from Sheep Ranch. Not as stunning in my opinion but one of the many ocean views. I think the first hole has the best view though. So many possibilities from this spot. this is the view from the fairway on 1. really nice. -
Wow, if this thread doesn't make you feel a bit better about the world not sure what would. Thank you for sharing your recovery plan @Greg 504 and also a hardy (virtual COVID approved) high five to @StuM for checking in.

Anyone Watching No Laying Up's Tourist Sauce

I have been watching lately because they are touring Oregon in the recent season. Interesting to see how they position each course. I think this is because of the links style Bandon goes for. -
A "New" Swing Thought - What Do You Think?
mchepp replied to MiuraMan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hmm, lots of theories that aren't that different than what he is stating. Martin Ayers called his "bow and crossbow". Martin also loved long hard to stay focused on youtube videos. (I admit to skipping around on this one) He is wrong when he says it is on plane here That clubface is WIDE open and unless he compensates, a slice, push, mostly bad things will happen. His lead wrist is in cupped. Yuck! The golf swing has so many things going on. Much of what he is saying is good stuff, however, I think other instructors do a better job simplifying it. Shorter videos that taken as a whole are better for consumption. -
If you stay with Footjoy stay with the medium. It will likely be a bit long, but the elastic is so bad better to go with the proper sizing.

As someone who plays roughly 6 month of the year with rain gear I feel qualified to say, most, if not all rain gear is an enormous struggle to fit. Let’s start with pants. They are ALWAYS too long with a waist that is not matching, usually too small. Foot-Joys pants are lousy elastic in the waist and I have to wear a clip at the bottom to avoid dragging my pants all over the golf course. Nike has the best in my opinion. Sizing is easier and not ridiculously long length. Jackets rarely offer much “give”. Most are hard to swing in. I have purchased the $250 top of the line, same problem. I recommend undersizing as many of the good brands will do a fair amount of stretching. Foot-Joy when undersized is good, also I like Nike undersized also. Nike has quite a bit of give and is the best in my opinion. I also have an Under Armour that gives nicely too. I don’t like pullovers but that is probably personal preference. Hard to get on and off easily. Don’t get me started on zippers. Foot-Joy has nice zippers, everyone skimps there and it is the first place the jacket begins to break down.

Augusta National giving patrons rare chance to purchase merchandise online For the first time, Augusta National is offering online shopping -- but only to patrons who are on... Seems like all of us could find someone with tickets and get Masters gear. I had a friend go in 2010 and my hat could use an upgrade.

Sounds very interesting. Thank you for sharing the opportunity @cipher Particularly your accommodations, that is awesome. Similar to @DaveP043 I am in interested but undecided camp. I would like to keep an eye on it as it gets a little closer.- 438 replies
