Yeah, I work with a guy who proclaimed that "everyone is his family are scratch golfers as they all have around 10 handicaps". Let's just say I don't think he knew the definition of scratch golfer. I have been between an 8-12 over the past 5 years and I cannot seem to go lower. As others have said, you have to put the time into it and that is one thing I just don't have. Two kids, 3 & 1 and a demanding job. Gets tough!

"this one time in band camp......"

You have yourself 2 wonderful cigars there. I would suggest trying the CAO Italia, the Cuesta Rey Pyramid #9 or the Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Maduro. My persoanl preference is to have them AFTER the round though so you can enjoy your golf and then your cigar. Try it with a nice Dalmore Cigar Malt scotch too.

Low round was 75 (36-39) and my low nine was a 35 where I just caught fire on the back 9 (45-35). Someday soon I will shoot even par. I did have a 27 last year on an all par 3 course too but I don't think that really counts.

I have been playing guitar for about 30 years now. Actually I haven't picked up the Larrivee in about 2 months. Just no time. But I prefer acoustic guitar to any other instrument out there.

Phil and Tiger and Ernie Els have all challenged Finchem saying that 4 weeks in a row of playing golf is too much. Steve Stricker came out and said the same thing. I commend him for speaking up but at the same time why does he have to defend his actions. I know these guys were not consulted on this but there is no obligation for them to show. And I can't say that I feel sorry for any of these guys. Too fatigued? Too much time? C'mon, you are playing golf and you get way more time with your family than me or any other working guy has per year. You also get the pampered treatment for all of these events so please forgive us if we cannot sympathize with any of these guys. As Iacas said, they always find ways to play in corporate outing or to travel to Dubai or China when it suits them.

Another 78 this past weekend - 39-39 - Felt like I could have done so much better as I had 2 doubles and finished bogey-bogey on a couple of 3 jacks. That was the last time at my club as I resigned and hopefully will be joining a far superior golf course.

I have posted these out here previously but by all means check out Rick Reilly's "Missing Links" & "Shanks For Nothing". The 2 funniest golf books you will EVER read. Feinstein is a great writer as well and " A Good Walk Spoiled" is a classic. I find the Troon McAlister books to be lacking. I find Eddie Caminetti to be obnoxious and McAlister makes the pros in 'The Green' seem like absolute idiots. I thought 'Scratch' was amusing and 'The Foursome" was tiresome.

I get them both but I personally find that GolfWeek and GolfWorld have the best information, at least for my tastes. I probably would give the edge to Golf Digest too.

78 yesterday - 40 & 38. Started off with a double and basically was 6 over through 7 holes. Remembered a lesson I had (with a softball bat) from Mike Miller, who coaches Jason Gore. Started setting my hands better and the irons became much more dialed in. Putted decent too.

I just got a new 56 spin milled and it shreds the hell out of all my golf balls, including some NXT Tours I got for my birthday. Phenomenal wedges though.

I read the same thing yesterday and was surprised to find how inflexible Nike is with their equipment deals. The article pointed out that the staff players were required to use all Nike equipment and apparel. I wonder if that is hurting them at all.

I have a funny ongoing thing with my brother about chipping in. He had never chipped in before in his life. Every time I would do it (4 or 5 times a year), I would call him and tell him about it. We played in a tournament where the green was right next to a tee box that he was standing on and I chipped in right in front of him. We played a few weeks later and we came to a hole with a temp green and one of the extra large cups. He chipped in but I had to rag on him because of the big hole. Made for a lot of fun. I still don't think he has chipped in on a normal hole to this date.

I am a Titleist supporter as well. I have had incredibly good luck with their equipment and balls. The only thing holding back from having more of it is $$$. Personally, after trying a number of wedges, I find the Vokey line to be so incredibly better than others. The only thing I wish is that they would produce a quality line of shirts and apparel similar to Callaway.

I know the dog house that I would have been in if my wife was in the hospital and I was playing golf. OK, a little bit different.

Shot a 81 yesterday at a course I am looking to joing - Bentwinds (Fuquay Varina, NC). So much nicer than the course I belong to right now. Real greens that were in good condition although they were still recoving from a punch. My only complaint about the place was the last 2 holes require that you to hit irons off the tee. (lay ups due to water). Hit my new Titleist driver and loved it. So much nicer than my Mizuno.

It is the "all your eggs in one basket" cliche in real life. I HATE when I hear people say, "If Tiger's not playing, then I don't watch". Just look at last week's Traveler's Championship for a great finish and yesterday's birdie finish for Brian Bateman. Great golf with no Tiger. There really does need to be some better cross-promotion so that golf does not suffer.

I loved this ending. Played with some friends yesterday morning and when I came home, my wofe had thrown a surprise birthday party for me. Basically all of us were so hot from golfing, we just sat on the couch and watched the tournament. I used to live right over the river from this tournament and have a friend who lives on the 13th hole. I would go every year without fail to this event and enjoyed it immensely. I even went when I was a kid when it was held at Wethersfield Country Club. Just glad to see an exciting finish to a great event and hope the Travelers Championship becomes an event that pros want to play in. I do miss the old Greater Hartford Open (GHO) moniker but Travelers is a great sponsor (worked for them for 5 years too).

My friend's father in law is a doctor. Someone he knows gave his a dozen balls saying "Dr. Motolla" on them, obviously making them very easily identifiable. The good doctor hit one into another fairway and proceeded to go to his ball only to find some kid about to hit it. He questioned the kid asking him if that was his ball. The kid answered "Yes, it is my ball. I always play "Dr. Motolla" balls." Always good for a laugh.

Berman was awful. Johnny Miller was awful. I still don't understand why golf writers praise him for speaking his mind. We are watching golf, not world current events. Johnny sometimes just has to hear himself talk (like yesterday, Australians are better at the chip and run shot than Americans). Like a previous poster said, we are here to watch the golf (or the game), keep your mouth shut.
-
Frank - I noticed the same thing yesterday. Berman is such a bad golf announcer. Too much schtick and too many cliches.

Play really does seem to slow down on Father's Day. I know last year I was headed for the dreaded 5 hour plus round until one of the other guys in the foursome and I left the other 2 guys.
-
You are so right. On the typical par 4, if you were to play it in regulation, 50% of your shots would be on the green. Every shot counts, but the guys who can chip and putt are the ones who score.

+21 is anything but impressive. I would think after a showing like that, she and her parents would want to reconsider the John Deere invite even if it is a month away.
