Proposing a So Cal end-of-summer meet up (SEPT 24)

FYI - I'm in this same boat, so a Saturday event will be tough for me. Carry on..... -
I would guess that GHIN calculates the differential at the time of score input and stores only the differential. As you pointed out, storing the slope/rating is not the best use of a relational database. I think just doing the calc at the time of input and storing the result should meet your needs and allow future updates to slope/rating to work as intended. Good luck!

Mark me as tentative for that date, should work, but hard to tell at this point. -
DJ relief from rough to fairway, 10th hole Sunday
bmartin461 replied to SquirrelNutz's topic in Rules of Golf
Now keep in mind the players know what they are doing, they know where the true blocks are to their next shot. That course was very "links like" after they cut down all those trees. The means grip it and rip it and even if it's off line I'll have a shot at the green. the TIO is very slim, but it's not part of the course, so no player would be accounting for it. -

Exactly. What's funny is after he took relief he then went on the blast it right over the top of the TV tower. -

Dustin Johnson Helped by USGA's Bungled Ruling
bmartin461 replied to david_wedzik's topic in Tour Talk
By the 6th hole Lowry already dropped 2 strokes while Dustin was even. I can see you point on this affecting Dustin, but Lowry tightened up, couldn't putt 5 footers etc. I think he would have collapse regardless. Now Day might have changed his strategy a bit, but his poor bunker shot on 17 did him in too. You can say the same for the others that finished ahead of DJ, they must have had a sense for where they needed to be to win, be it -2 or -3, which none of them reached. I do see your point though.- 44 replies

Doesn't this answer your own question? It's not a waste of time and money if you get enough benefit from it.

Maybe the golfmatch app might work for you, you can create private groups too: https://golfmatchapp.com/about

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
bmartin461 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Voted yes and yes. My index has dropped a few points from last year and I expect a few more to fall off this year with the help of this site. -
Played in a two day net city tournament this past weekend, it was my first time playing in one. The nerves got to me on the first day as what they say is right, tourney golf is not the same as regular golf. After the first day I was 12th out of 23 in my flight. Day 2 I turned it around and had a much better time. It didn't hurt that I had a chip-in birdie on the first hole and another birdie to start the back 9. Ended up finishing in 7th (5th if you count the ties above me). Things to work on: Bunker shots, short putts, rinse and repeat.

Thanks for the replies so far, good stuff. One other concern I have is they changed the course HC calc at the last minute (post last revision). Instead of basing it on the low index of the year they decided to take current index. Since my index is also my low, it didn't impact me, but for others were who lower and are now a bit higher would seem to have a slight advantage with this change. Thoughts?

Good advice, thanks. From what I understand there will be "officials" on the course to help. I have a pretty good understanding of the rules so that should help.
-
Thanks, this is good advice. I'll try, no promises.
-
Thanks for the replies. I'll post more once it's over, good or bad.
-
Thanks for the response, yes, I realize everyone will be in the same boat regarding the HC calculation. I do expect to learn a lot from this experience and I hope I can just make good contact on the first tee.

I entered a city tournament, and it will be my first. It's a two day tourney, played on two courses on the same property. They gave me a course HC (based on a slope of 126) that is used for both courses even though the ratings are different. I'm a 14.8 currently, the course HC I received is a 17. From what I can tell, this helps me as the HC is based on the higher sloped course, the second course has a slope of 121, so I get one extra stroke I believe. Since it's a course I play a lot, I've mapped out the holes that tend to give me trouble and I will develop a safe plan of play for those holes. Any advise you would give me otherwise? Thanks, Brad

Unfortunately the afternoons are not good for me, so I'm limited to before work if at all, which is becoming more and more of a problem now that their "Players Club" has caught on so well.
