Problem is, if the asshats are allowed to proceed unchecked, they invariably escalate.

I guess I should read this thread more often - I finally just noticed the badge in my sig! Thanks to all who repped me last month and congrats to the other winners as well.

I vote for this thread being made a "Sticky"!

Had our draft yesterday (10-team league). I came out pretty good on QB/RBs, so-so on WRs and a pretty unspectacular bench: QB - Tony Romo (DAL) WR1 - Jordan Matthews (PHI) WR2 - Keenan Allen (SD) RB1 - Marshawn Lynch (SEA) RB2 - Matt Forte (CHI) TE - Jimmy Graham (SEA) W/R - Eric Decker (NYJ) K - Dan Bailey (DAL) DEF - New England (I usually stream DEF throughout the season) BN - Philip Rivers (QB, SD) BN - Shane Vereen (RB, NYG) BN - Charles Johnson (WR, MIN) BN - Pierre Garçon (WR, WAS) BN - Darren McFadden (RB, DAL) BN - Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE, TB) I usually like to have a QB and WR from the same team (had Peyton and Demaryius Thomas last year), but couldn't come up with a decent combo. Matthews scares me because Bradford is made of glass and one hit away from the DL. If RIvers and Keenan Allen start producing I may swap Rivers into the starting QB slot, but for some reason I have a feeling that Romo may have a career season this year. I gambled a little bit, so either it pays off or I crater.

We used to always sing that line as "I want a chili dog!".

My top 4 are quite an eclectic mix: B-52s The Cars (early stuff) - I think Elliot Easton is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Van Halen (both eras) Dwight Yoakam

(I don't use iron head covers, but....) PGA Tour players don't care about club wear. They get new, custom-built irons from their equipment sponsors at no cost any time they want them. PGA Tour players also spend several minutes walking around the green lining up their putts from every angle possible. If every weekend warrior sought to emulate Tour Pros, we'd all be playing 6-hour rounds.

I haven't read through the PDF of the report, but saw the average underinflation numbers posted above. Somebody please tell me the NFL didn't waste 3 million dollars and go on this huge witch hunt over 0.23 psi. I doubt any player could even feel the difference of less than a quarter psi in a football, no matter how discriminating their hands are.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a very good thing! It gives kids a chance to earn some money and also gets them off their asses and out from in front of the TV/XBox. They also get to learn the game and pick up some valuable people skills. I wish it was more prevalent everywhere.

As an aside, it's funny how different golf is in different parts of the country. I grew up in Southern California and caddies are all but unheard of, except on the most upscale courses. I've played thousands of rounds of golf in my life and have never once had a caddy.

A couple of quick swipes with a brush to get the dirt/grass out of the grooves as I'm walking back to the cart to put the club back in the bag takes no extra time at all. I certainly wouldn't stand around cleaning my clubs if it was going to interfere with the pace of play.

Golf is very popular in Japan, but it's my understanding that it's also very expensive and very difficult to get a tee time unless you're a member of a course (and membership is out of reach to all but the very wealthy). I remember reading an article in which they said that the majority of Japanese golfers mostly go to driving ranges (many of which are double and triple-deck) and rarely get to play an actual round on a course. Maybe this has changed over time, but if not it could certainly be a limiting factor. According to Wikipedia, India has 196 golf courses in the entire country, about 50% of which are on military bases and only accessible to military and their families. Of the remaining courses, some of them are Pitch and Putt courses due to the scarcity of available land to build full-sized facilities. That, combined with the rampant poverty in India, hardly sounds like a hotbed of professional golf.

Instead, it's about the Donald's actual game. And -- we hope you're sitting down -- the Donald apparently doesn't play by the rules. In a piece for the Washington Post, writer Ben Terris examines the 2016 Republican candidate's reputation as a cheat on the golf course. Testimonials from former Sports Illustrated editor Mark Mulvoy and rock singer Alice Cooper paint Trump as an unabashed fraud when it comes to his scorecard. "“The worst celebrity golf cheat?” Cooper said. “I wish I could tell you that. It would be a shocker. I played with Donald Trump one time. That’s all I’m going to say.” This isn't a new revelation; Rick Reilly's 2003 book Who's Your Caddy? details Trump's liberal interpretation of golf's rule book. "Make sure you write that I play my first ball," Trump told Reilly. "You don’t get a second ball in life." As Reilly would later comment, this was true, save for the mulligans Trump took on three holes, including, in Reilly's words, "the world's first gimmie chip-in." Sounds like Trump and Kim Jong il would have been great golf partners (from http://news.cybergolf.com/golf_news/alltime_golf_scoring_record_goes_with_death_of_kim_jong_il :) Quote: During his reign as the unquestioned, unchallenged leader of the secretive nation, Kim, according to official North Korean state media reports, routinely shot three or four holes-in-one per round of golf. But in the 1990s - another moment in time when an event in North Korea varies (some say it happened in 1991 and others in 1994), the late dictator, then 50 (or 53) years old, set a golfing standard that will assuredly never be surpassed. It occurred at the grand opening of the Pyongyang Golf Complex, which contains North Korea's only 18-hole golf course. After picking up a golf club that day for the very first time in his life, the Dear Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea fired a 38-under-par round of 34 at Pyongyang. According to the 17 security guards who observed the performance, the score included an amazing 11 aces. Naturally, the event was dutifully reported to the North Korean masses by the state news agency.

He sure does continue to demonstrate incompetence. It's hard to believe he continues to keep his job after all the screw-ups. The Ray Rice fiasco was another example of him screwing the pooch. After the initial investigation he suspended him for two games. Rice served his suspension, then the NFL then came out with a policy stating that the mandated suspension for a first offense of domestic violence was six games. Then the video of Rice hitting his girlfriend in the elevator became public and Goodell turned around and suspended Rice indefinitely - despite the fact that a) he had already served his imposed suspension after the initial investigation and b) the league's mandated first offense suspension was six games. Translating it to the public sector, this would be akin to being sentenced to 2 days in jail for shoplifting - then after you got out of jail, the store released the video of you shoplifting and the judge turns around and sentences you to a year in prison for the same offense you've already been sentenced and served your time for. Not condoning what Rice did in any way, but the way Goodell and his cronies handled it was completely incompetent. He obviously bowed to outside pressure and was scrambling to appease the angry mob. The Brady case (along with "Bountygate" and others) shows that the NFL needs to hire some investigators who understand the difference between "evidence" and "rumor/hearsay". If Goodell can't learn the difference between "beyond a reasonable doubt" and "we think this may have happened", he needs to step aside and delegate disciplinary issues to somebody who's a little sharper.

I have a divot repair tool which has a little groove cleaning brush (stiff nylon bristles) on one side. I got it in a swag bag at a tournament over 20 years ago, and have carried it in my pocket every round since then. It had the logo of a local bank (long since defunct) printed on it, but that's barely even legible now. I use it to clean the grooves of my irons/wedges after almost every shot. If they get muddy I wipe them down with a wet rag, but usually that little brush does the trick. Can't believe that thing has held up this long (it's made of plastic), and/or that I haven't lost it. The carts at my home course have a ball/club washer on one of the rear fenders, which also comes in handy. A quick dip and a wipe with a towel and you're good as new.

I don't believe it will, at least in the foreseeable future. That was my first thought as well, at least in terms of players. There's certainly been an increasingly large influx of Asian players. But in terms of the LPGA Tour itself, I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future either.

Make sure to tell her to have a cold beer and a sammich waiting for you too. That's always good for extra points.

I'd need that option to vote as well. I don't have anything Titleist or Callaway in my bag. FWIW though, if forced to choose between the two I'd most likely be playing Callaway clubs and balls, as they have a wider selection more geared toward higher handicap golfers. I'm not a fan of any of the ProV balls (especially at their price point), and I think Scotty Cameron putters are overpriced fashion accessories. If I'm paying that much for a putter, I'm going to Edel and getting custom fitted. From what I can tell, there's nothing about an off-the-rack Cameron putter that's going to make it sink putts any better than an off-the-rack bargain basement knockoff putter. Now if either company wants to sponsor me and give me all free gear, I take back everything I just said and whichever one of them coughs up the swag is the best stuff in the world.

I think it's difficult to generalize on the dynamics of other peoples' relationships. I have friends who don't dare make a move without asking permission from their wives. If they're ok with that, that's up to them, but it's not how it works for me/us. We've been married for over 25 years and I established the ground rules very early on in our relationship, when we were still dating and she had first moved in with me. As I was walking out the door to go to work, I told her I'd be home late because I was going to go out with the guys and have a beer afterwards. She replied "No, you're not", at which point I came back in, sat down and explained things to her. I'm not your daddy and you're not my mommy, we're both grown-ups and we don't have to ask for permission to do things. If you want to go out with your friends, cool - just let me know and give me an idea of when you'll be home so I don't worry about you. If that doesn't work for you, we might as well end this relationship right now because we'll never be on the same page. Over 25 years later, that arrangement has worked fine for both of us (we don't have kids, so that doesn't come into play). We both have our hobbies/interests and are free to pursue them whenever we want, as long as we don't have something else planned. We have our time together, but both of us are very independent and don't feel the need to cling to each other every waking moment. I golf anywhere from 2-5 days a week and she has absolutely no problem with it. We're very happily married and part of the happiness is that we're free to enjoy our hobbies and interests that aren't mutual between us. I have no desire to go shopping or see 'chick flicks' with her and her mom, and she has no desire to play golf. Works for us. I feel sorry for my married friends who can't get a "hall pass" to go down the street and grab a cup of coffee for a half-hour, or to play golf even once a week - but it's their life and they've chosen it, so it's not for me to tell them they're wrong. Not the life I'd want, but fortunately I don't have to live it. No two relationships are the same.

It's currently 11:38 pm here, and 93 degrees. Down from a high of 104 today, which is one of the cooler days we've had recently. We should start getting consistently into the mid-90s somewhere around mid to late October, lol!

During the winter months we get inundated by "snowbirds" (winter visitors from the northern states and Canada, mostly senior citizens), and they're like locusts...they pick the course clean of any and all balls they can find, sometimes while they're still moving. If you hit a shot and your ball is out of your sight for even a few seconds, there's a good chance that it won't be there by the time you get to it - it'll be in some snowbird's pocket. Basically if you're not standing directly over a ball with a club in your hand, they consider it fair game. We've caught them doing it many times, and they're usually very nasty and confrontational about it. Most of them have a lot of money (they either own second homes here or drive down in big Class A RVs), but they're the tightest bastards I've ever seen. Our course stocks each cart with 4 tees and 4 bottles of water - if the cart guys aren't standing right there to catch them, the snowbirds will fill their pockets with tees and load their golf bags up with water bottles. Then they'll go steal range balls off the driving range and use them for the par 3 water holes, because apparently sucking up every unattended ball on the course isn't good enough. They're so tight there's even a running joke amongst the service industry people in town (waitresses, etc.) - "Know the difference between a snowbird and a canoe? A canoe will tip once in a while!".

Cute kid. Wish I'd started golf that young - and having Jason for his dad certainly won't hurt his game either!

I like Feherty, sad to hear that CBS let him go. Hopefully he'll get picked up elsewhere. If nothing else, I enjoy listening to his accent - he could read the dictionary and make it sound entertaining.

There's also "Block Member" in the pulldown below their username. Makes some threads considerably shorter and more readable.
