I was running an errand and was listening to the radio coverage through the app on my phone and the commentators there were convinced that the person that was ejected had said "Don't crumble Rory" and "Go Sergio" to him prior to the 15th. The radio hosts had their knickers is a bunch and were pleased that Rory had pointed the guy out and that he was escorted off.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

Seve used to always develop a "cough" during the Ryder Cup. Apparently this guy was badgering Rory for a few holes & by his reaction on 16, it would appear he had enough of his gig. See ya.

Maybe he had Sergio in the office pool!

On the plus side, he got in what, 15 holes and saw action before McIlroy's  round and he'll beat the crowds to the rail/parking exit rush. :-)

Glad to see Rory kick that guy out. I have no problem with players being able to eject a fan from the tournament.

What about this: http://www.golf.com/ap-news/sabbatini-has-fan-kicked-course ?

Quote:

The guy in that situation didn't say anything while players were at all preparing to play. It didn't contain any curse words. It simply pointed back to a statement Rory had made earlier in the year (after losing to Tiger) that Tiger was "beatable."

Seconds later, after Sabbatini made a double bogey and was walking away from the ninth green, retired firefighter and paramedic Steve Banky casually said to him, "Hey, Rory. Still think Tiger's beatable?''

Sabbatini wheeled and pointed to Banky, telling a police officer that he wanted Banky removed from the course. He was escorted to the course's front entrance by two officers.

"We're out here to do our job - let us do our job,'' Sabbatini said later. "Have a little bit of decorum, a little bit of class out there. I guess a few too many beers were talking.''

Sabbatini shot a 74, Woods had a 65 to overcome a one-shot deficit to start the day and win by eight strokes.

It was at the Wachovia tournament earlier this year that the fiery Sabbatini said he wanted Woods in the final group. Woods then beat him by five shots in the final round to win the tournament. Four days later, Sabbatini said Woods looked "beatable as ever.'' Woods countered that he had already won three times this year, matching Sabbatini's career total.

In the tale of the two Rory's, I vote 1 and 1: McIlroy is a winner, Sabbatini is a loser.

Yea, I'd agree with that. My statement is more that I like that players have the authority to kick a fan out. I am not sure if there is anything security can do for a guy who clearly wasn't causing trouble, in Sabbatini's case, but who just happened to say something that pushed Sabbatini over the edge. Compared to the guy who was following McIlroy around the course heckling him.

Just because Sabbatini is a royal jagoff doesn't make his heckling situation different that Rory's. The Tour is pretty clear...you don't talk to the players while they're playing. I laughed when the report of that fan confronting Sabbatini came out, but that fan earned his eviction. It's one player and hundreds (sometimes thousands) of fans. You have to have zero tolerance or it can get ugly quickly.

I disagree. "Go Rory!" could be seen as "talking to the player." You can't really define that. And Sabbatini wasn't really "playing" at the time - he was walking between holes. What he was saying wasn't particularly hateful, unlike McIlroy's situation (I thought I'd read he'd said some country/religious/hateful types of things - never mind that coughing during a swing is plenty all by itself).

For me the difference is that in one case it happened during an actual swing and in the other it was not.  One potentially affects play, the other doesn't.

That said, although I am obviously a big Tiger supporter, I do not share the disdain for Sabbatini that many have.

But then again, what the hell do I know?
