Hello,
I am new to this sport and have a used set of irons but no drivers. There is a guy in town that makes custom KZG head drivers, he told me it would be $95 to get one with the fujikura shaft. Does this sound like a good deal? From the prices of drivers I have seen online I was think this was not to bad to get one custom made to me and not something off the shelf.

Hello,

Hard to say - never seen a KZG driver. My instincts tell me this is a good deal.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

There are plenty of good game improvement drivers on the used market for way less than that. Since you're new to the game I'd recommend you start with a good used Callaway Big Bertha, Taylor Made Burner, Titleist 975D, Ping TiSi, or Cleveland Launcher...any of which can be had for under $50 if you do a litle looking around. Most of these feature large titanium heads and fairly high tech graphite shafts. Yes, they're "off the shelf" drivers but IMHO custom made drivers are for the most part overrated and not necessary for a beginning golfer. Fujikura makes good graphite shafts but they're not exactly the holy grail either and many of the other brands out there are just as good if not better so unless you're really into that brand for some reason I wouldn't use that as my sole criteria for purchasing a driver. If there's a Play It Again Sports store in your area that would be a good place to look.

Check KZG's website to see if the model is one that is appropriate for you. They are known for their irons not woods.

Only thing about Play It Again and other golf-shops-once-removed:
Make sure the $50 driver is still worth something. If the former player dumped it because the head was starting to fall apart, you may not save much money. Main idea: play with it some right away so you can return it if it's dying.

Also, a KZG component-parts driver with a decent head and the proper shaft flex for you wouldn't be too bad. For $95, that's about the price of some used drivers.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Hello,

I'd say it's a good deal. I used to be a KZG Dealer and I couldn't make a new KZG driver (any model), with a steel shaft, for that price without losing money! I'm not sure how he can do that unless maybe it's a extra demo head and perhaps a shaft pullout he has laying around, which still makes this a good deal. Even though I'm no longer a KZG Dealer, they still produce exceptional components.

I hit a KZG driver at a local club fitter while having a new shaft installed in my current driver. Looked good at address and produced good results, although the feel at impact wasn't great.

I'd check on their website to see what model it is. Definately sounds like a good deal though.

I was wondering how he can do it for that as well. The head is RBT 360 and it is brand new with the plastic still on it. I think I may have to get him to make me one, that way I can have one nice club and maybe be able to get off the tee box.

The RBT 360 has been around for a long time. It's a solid driver head but it only comes in 9 and 10.5 degrees if I recall correctly. If you are new to the game you might need a little more loft than 10.5 starting out. But it's a good deal and I'd recommend getting it even if it's not a perfect fit right now. As your swing and swing speed improves I'm sure it'll be a pretty good club for you down the road.

Nice for a 360cc head. You can get 460cc newer heads and shafts for around that same price, I'd pass.
