I am thinking about changing putters to a model with roll groove technology, have any of you noticed a big difference in how they roll a ball on a green compared to the stores putting surface?

Not really.  Im honestly not convinced that grooves on putters do much of anything.  The whole point of grooves is to give dirt/grass a place to go so that you dont get them between the ball and the clubface, which shouldnt be an issue on the green.  Its been widely said that grooves on drivers are mainly for looks, so Im not convinced that grooves on putters are much more than a marketing gimmick.

I have no scientific evidence to support my opinion.  I used to play with a Wilson blade putter which had no grooves on the face, last year I switched to a Nike Method Core 3i which does have grooves on it.  The Nike rolls way better and it has more feel than the Wilson.  I have no idea why that is, is it because of grooves, newer technology, more weight, or just that it feels better to me.  IDK, but I am not going back to my Wilson, even though I always putted well with it.

Yep. Grooves do virtually nothing on a putter. They can increase spin 5% but that's often changing 10 RPM to 10.5 RPM. Big whoop. They basically do nothing.

Maybe they dont help much but i have a Rife putter with groove technology and can safely say its made me confident over every putt on the greens and i mean EVERY putt, from the 40ft lag putts to the 6-8ft putts. i cant put into words how good this putter has made me feel, it may be something to do with my new smaller backswing and tighter arms to the body but the ball really rolls the best iv ever seen!

I also do not think that grooves on a putter do anything, it is more about feel. However, I do feel that putting in a store is "easier" then on a green. They must have magnets in the balls and cups in the store because I can sink everything. Get on a really green and not so much.

I have a Ping D66 IwI where I can change weights in the bottom of the putter. It is great fun to play with and I have found that for me, more weight in the toe really helps me putt straighter.

You probably are talking about putters with conforming grooves.  I have an older Ping with the non-conforming square grooves and it works perfectly when I have a long putt with little room behind the pin ... I can get my lag to check up nicely with that thing!

Yes, do those of you who use this type of putter see any difference between how the ball rolls on a stores artificial green vs one of grass? Is it any harder to get the ball rolling on grass?

I'm not talking about reading a break, grain, land, water, speed, I just want to know if the people who play this type of putter see any difference in how the soon the ball starts rolling off the putter face on a store's green compared to one on the golf course.

I don't have any scientific evidence and am willing to accept that it's all mental/placebo but my putter is awesome. Now that I think about it though, there is one other major difference between my Yes putter and my old putter and that is length, my yes putter is a almost 4" shorter at 31.5" and I think that has really transformed my putting game, it does feel like the Yes gets a truer roll though but like I said, might just be placebo or might just be the better stroke from the shorter shaft.

Whatever, putting is all in your head

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
