hi

theres only one thing worse than a double hit, and thats a full blown air shot, usually when chipping!

ive done this a few time off a 5 handicap-when this happens i never know where to run!lol

has anyone else had this experience?

Yeah…. Done that. Usually happens after a short tee shot and I’m really trying to kill the ball to make up for the lost yards.

It’s a GOOD thing tho’. After I stop laughing at myself, I just settle down and make the shot I should have, good contact to a target area.

Only happened once last year, and will probably happen again this year. I just remember to make sure I laugh (well, everyone else is!), and tell myself that the golf gods are only trying to tell me to relax and play my best game.

Yeppers :) Better to just call it a practice swing ;)

Whats worse (at least in my opinion) is accidentally hitting the ball on a practice swing...happened to me once on a bump and run shot with plenty of green to work with...my practice swing clipped the ball off the toe of the club 90 degrees to the right...right into a bunker...UGH!!!

Once, hitting a tee shot on a long par-3, I took a big swing with my 3-wood and bounced the head off the turf behind the ball. The club head literally brushed the ball so slightly it toppled off the tee, resting against the front of the peg itself. I hit the shortest possible shot which actually advanced the ball. I had to pull the tee and hit my second off the deck.

I think everyone does that at some point.

Me, I barely nicked the top of the ball with an iron just the other day, and advanced the ball perhaps an inch. (I think that's being generous...I barely nudged it.)

I hate when I do that. I did it yesterday in fact. This has taught me to get the hell away from my ball for practice swings.

when you miss the ball, doesn't it count as a stroke? and having never done this myself couldnt you just say it was a practice swing?

If you swing with the intent to hit the ball, it counts as a stroke even if you never touch it. You could say it was a practice stroke, but you'd be a piece of c**p, s**t eating scum bag who'd never be playing my foursome again!

Since one seldom takes practice stokes with exactly the same intensity as when actually playing the ball, your partners always know, so don't shame yourself by claiming otherwise. SubPar.

About 5 years ago I was playing at a pretty popular course and there where 10 carts lined up behind the tee box waiting to tee off. I handed the marshall the receipt and got matched up with this old timer. My friend pipes a drive out there about 270+ a really nice drive. The old timer pokes it out there about 220. I then reach back and pop it up like a Mickelson flop shot. I went about 30 yards and then ball fell right before the ladies tee box. My friend then proceeds to say shouldn't you drop your draws you didn't hit it past the ladies tees. Everybody started laughing Most of the carts from what I could tell were laughing, my friend was and the guy I was partnered up with. Even the freaking Marshall was laughing. I was so pissed.

I would be very suspect of anyone who said they never whiffed one.

I haven't completely whiffed in a few years (knock on wood), but my wife does just about every round. When she does she always looks back with a look on her face that says "Why the F__k did you let that happen... I thought you were going to help me you piece of S__t." It's funny because she wants to act like her score doesn't matter, but she gets really pissed when she plays poorly. It doesn't help that she's at that point where she can hit really good shots and really bad ones... so it's tough for her to know she can play well when she doesn't.

Like I said not me in a few years, but plenty of shots that would have ended in a better place had I whiffed. I think the the shots I most hate are the skull and the fat wedge. Both make you look completely rediculous and usually come after a great drive right down the middle.
