I am just wondering how many people have yardage books for the course they play most often or for any course you prefer. If yes, Did you make it or buy it? What information do you have in it, or added to it?

I carry a range finder so I have no need for a yardage book anymore.

I don't carry yardage books, either, but I do carry a range finder. If I'm playing a somewhat difficult new course, I'll often get a yardage book because it's tough to figure out what some carry distances are with a range finder.

I'm with Erik. I don't carry one on my home course or the other courses I play regularly. I do like to have one for newer courses though...especially since I'm not lucky enough to have a range finder like others.

I have played with Erik and used his range finder and found it VERY useful and amazing how well it does work.

Fairways and Greens.

nope. most of the time I don't even look at the yardage markers... just pull out the "right" club

The proshop at my club was selling yardage books from the '02 US Amateur so I got one for $7. Comes in handy from time to time but I rarely use it.

I always buy a yardage book when possible, unless the course has a GPS system.

The last few years, I really haven't had a home course as my number of rounds in Chicago has dropped like a rock. When I lived in Boston, my home course had gone and marked the yardage from almost every single tree within 250 yards!

Those of you with rangefinders, which ones do you like and why?

hcp: 31-32, best: 24 in 2002

I buy a yardage book if i haven't played a course before and try to plan each hole on the tee, based on the length of shot i want to have left to the green center and the risks involved so whether 4 wood, long iron or driver is required.
As for my own course i have a game plan for each hole and try to play the game plan, this helps in pressure situations. I write in the yardage brought for my own course what i want to hit off the tee, where i want to aim for on the green (aiming at the pin is not always the best choice), the grain of the grass of the green. The yardage book for my course is pretty good with yardages for most positions. Have times when i need pythagoras theory though
I have also put more accurate yardages from within 80 yards as these distances are more important to the score.

I have a stack of yardage books sitting in my garage that I don't use anymore. Since I got the SkyCaddie GPS I just don't need them anymore. It covers every course that I play.

If a course is selling the yardage book, I will usually buy one. They are nice to have, especially if you have never seen the course before.

I carry a range finder, so the yardage book is not a necessity, but I still like to have them.

      I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

      If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
