What's wrong with the Burner?

I would go with AP-2 irons (if your dad is getting a fat refund) or the Ping i10.

For the 3 wood, check out either the new Callaway square fairway woods, or the Titleist 906 series.

Driver... well if you like the Burner but want an upgrade, check out the new Burner TP driver. Another option, the G10, or drink the Kool-Aid and try the Cobra L4V f or x speed. I don't know if you want a bomber or workable driver, but if you shape your shots, I would check out the 907 D2, but get a shaft with lower spin.

Putter, you can't go wrong with Scotty Camerons or Odysseys. Or, for something different, I would try a boutique putter like C&L; putters or TP Mills. This is one area that is 100% preference, with very little consensus as to what is "best"... get what feels good.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Check out demo days in your area to see which clubs you like.

Players irons, especially at a low handicap and improving, are the way to go, I feel. Ping i10, Bridgestone J36, Mizuno MP-57, and Titleist AP (I forget, AP1 or AP2) are all good choices. You should go to demo days and find the ones that have a look and feel that you like.

I also suggest keeping your driver and 3-Wood if you like them. Finding good ones of those is hard. Maybe your dad can use the money he saves on not buying new ones of those to take you to a nice course next vacation.

The AP1s are directed towards the mid to high handicap players, as it is considered "game improvement" (or as close as Titleist comes to GI). There is more forgiveness, larger head size, and it is cast instead of forged.

The AP2s are forged, smaller head and topline, and less offset. The target demographic is mid to low handicaps (12-scratch). Some Titleist pros are also bagging them, most notably Adam Scott. They are also a few hundred dollars more for a full set, so one would have to decide if that is worth it.

As a side note, there are have been some complaints that the AP1 irons show wear a lot more than the AP2s, but that's not from my firsthand experience. I love my AP2s, by the way.

irons: you could possibly go with the mp60's or maybe tm RACs?
driver: you can't really improve much on the burner. just about as long as any driver
putter: your current one seems alright. perhaps a newport? my mate has one and it actually does make you putt better.(holed my only 15 foot putt with it last week in my round.)
3 wood: the burner is a great 3 wood, i have also seen good reviews on the sumo's
hybrid?: if you wanted one i nike, tm, titleist, ping, all make great hybrids.

buying new clubs is always fun. hit as mnay as you can..try everything in the shop

Hm.
If 'Dad' is talking about this refund check, don't expect to have a professional set.

well, i think he's using this refund check as an excuse to my mom for me to get new clubs.

We live comfortable in a gated community with 3 golf courses so it must be about convincing my mom.

    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
