Coming from left field here, but I was at the bank today, and there were 3 people in line to use the automatic change counter. Some interesting vessels that they were using to store their pocket change...

1. One guy had an empty plastic barrel, originally used for Utz brand Cheesy Poofs. Probably had $100 in change.

2. One older man had what looked like an urn. Creepy.

3. Crazy lady had baby bottles that she was turning in, each filled with a different coin. One each for pennies, nickels, etc... Weird thing was, she had the nipples on the bottles.

4. I use an old antique apothecary jar. My dad was a pharmacist in the '50s, and it's a sentimental hand-me-down.

Anyone else got some interesting coin jars they keep on the dresser?

For some reason when I was younger I used to collect cigar boxes. So I have my change stored up in there, I gotta bring it to the bank sometime

I love to hate this damn game.

I collect it in just a normal tupperware container. I've emptied it a few times over the past five or so years and it's probably totaled 600-700 dollars. It's amazing how fast all that change adds up if you save it.

I keep change in a bowl on my desk at work and use it to buy things like bottled water and lunch. I have a thing against change, I don't like it in my pockets so it gets dumped in the car ashtray or the bowl at work, and usually gets spent first. I can't stand "change jinglers"

  • An old glass pickle barrel, from the 30's
  • A clay vase that a buddy made for me back in high school
  • A Thomson seatpost bag that I keep in the truck for when the ashtray gets full (heavy canvas bag)
  • The ashtray in my truck
  • A glass heart shaped dish on the counter where I toss my keys every night

Slight hijack, but does anyone know where to get change exchanged for bills where [a] you don't have to roll it or separate it (i.e., you can just dump it in a counting machine); [b] they don't charge a ridiculous fee (I refuse to use those Coinstar machines that charge 9%+)

My bank requires rolled coins for exchange.

CommerceBank in the MidAtlantic region does just that; you dump in your coins, it sorts them, and separates the paperclips and buttons, and then the teller gives you cash... I'm sure some other banks must do the same.

Hey Gummi Bear, Thomson seatpost bag? Hope you still get the chance to ride...;)

I received a gift a number of years ago in a large can that looked almost identical to a Budweiser beer can. It was called a Giftweiser can. I use it for all change except pennies. But, I don't cart it to the bank. I roll the coins at home and take them to the bank in something else.

Hey Gummi Bear, Thomson seatpost bag? Hope you still get the chance to ride...;)

I didn't know if anyone would catch that or not.

I haven't ridden in quite some time. Getting married and having a kid pretty much ended my 6 day a week riding routine. My bike is what holds my club bag from falling about half the time. I really should start leaving for work earlier, so I can get a lap in at the lake before heading to the office.

I hear you... I'm in the same boat, and it doesn't go very fast! I enter maybe one MTB race a month, and pretty much pay the entry fee so that I can go out and ride a marked course and not get lost. My leg-shaving, heart-rate-monitoring days are well behind me, unfortunately...

By the looks of your handicap, and mine, mountain bikers don't make very good golfers

Mine just gets left in the car until it is everywhere. Every so often my wife will go out and steal the silver so she has change for the soda machine at work. I have no idea where the pennies end up but I will grab a handful when there are kids raising money outside of stores.

I use a 5 gallon glass jug. I emptied it out about 2 months ago and got $764 out of it, and it was only a little more than half full!!
