Im going out golfing this morning with some friends, and I havent golfed in 2 years haha. I guess hitting the range for a little first, then playing 9 holes. All as I can remember from the last time I went was I hit the ball really really flat, and couldnt get it up in the air. Any suggestions for this, and any other things I should do?

here's a tip: don't say "golfed", instead say "played golf".

As my signature suggests I've taken a lengthy break from golf. I had one instance where I was invited to play with some family and I had to borrow the pro's clubs! Five minutes on the driving range to get used to them!

I found that a break can have some good effects on your game, mind you, I've not managed to get onto a proper course yet. My driver and 3 wood have become pretty reliable...my short game is a bit of a handful though!

If you're golfing today, chances are that the weather is good and a golf course always provides a lot of nice scenery. Enjoy the day. Enjoy your surroundings. Don't worry about the shots, good or bad, or the score.

I hadn't "golfed" in 5 years before this spring. You don't have time but I took some lessons before I went out and golfed my first time. Since you had trouble getting shots up in the air, I'd avoid the driver and maybe even the 3 wood (go with a 5 wood) and your long irons. This summer I have shot better (scorewise and feelwise) than I ever have since I started golfing in 1978. "Golfed" or "Played Golf" it doesn't matter, it's all the same thing and nothing to nitpick over. I say both, who really cares unless you are trying to be better than someone else?

I just got back and it was soo fun. I was with some friends who play golf a ton, so they taught me a lot of stuff. Im in highschool, and so are they. All except one play for their school so theyre pretty good. Anyways we didnt go on the course and play, but just hit a lot of balls at the driving range.

I tried out all my clubs. I wasnt consistent, but a lot of the balls I hit went pretty far. I practiced with the 5 iron a lot, when I hit the ball good it went about 145 yards. But sometimes shorter if I didnt get under the ball enough.

Unless I hit the top of the ball too much, instead of getting under it, the ball had no problem flying through the air.

I did better than I expected, and were going again within the next couple of days. Im definatly hooked now. But I want to hit at the range a few more times before I go out onto the course.

I hope it went well. My advice is to find the clubs you can control (if it's always a little slice or always a little hook, then play for the hook) or preferably hit straight and just play those.

For the first couple of rounds, I played a 7 iron or shorter from anywhere but the tee box. It was the club I could count on the go straight. I had much better (and more enjoyable rounds) hitting a 7 iron and a wedge from 200 than duffing a 3 iron.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

See the ball, hit the ball. I find that when I take a break from golf (winter) and come back (spring) I really focus on not focusing too much (sounds dumb i know)...but getting caught up in mechanics too much can lead to the old adage 'paralysis by analysis'

First and foremost - have fun!

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
