How often do you hit a grass burner? Once a round? Five times a round? Once every few rounds?

For those who do not know what a 'grass burner' is, it can be defined by one of those ugly shots that doesn't go up in the air and skims it's away across the grass like a groundball in baseball.

Things I Am Good at in Golf

- Hitting it in the drink
- Finding the rough with my drive
- Staying in the bunker- Hitting grassburners all the way to the hole- Three putting- Posting over par on 18 in only 9 holes- Swinging and missing with an iron

About 1-2 times a round if I am not concentrating enough and more interested in what the ball flight is going to be I tend to lift up out of my stance and top the ball as such.

I did it a lot when I was starting out, but its down to about 1-2 times per round.

The poop of it is that it usually happens on the shots that I think are going to be really hard so I over-think them. I take too long in the box and after entirely too many practice swings and thinking, I usually hit a way worse shot then if I had just walked up and hit the ball.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

i'll do it once or twice in a round..especially if my ball is caught up in HEAVY rough. lately I've been hitting such bad shots that I keep getting stuck in the 2nd cut and having a ROUGH time getting out (no pun intended)

i swung hard. i almost miss the ball. it burned the grass and killed some worms and rolled into extremely tall grass. i made up and down though (somehow.....drained a 40 footer from off the green)

We always called them "worm-burners," and yeah, every so often one will rear its ugly head . . . never really did one out of the rough, my definition requires it to go a pretty good distance, just never getting off the ground. Happens to me if I try to hit a bigger slice than I am capable of controlling. Either that or I hit it perfectly straight and pretty and am now hitting 3 off the tee because it's waaaaaay left, maybe out near the interstate.
My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;

I did it when I first started. Usually is the product of pulling your head up.....or swinging to hard with all arms (not transferring your weight to your left foot properly) cause you to stand up during your swing, instead of staying down. I still do it every now and again......usually with a long iron off the fairway. We always called them "worm burners" as well, or torpedos.

Surprisingly, never, even given my high handicap.

That used to be my A-game shot when I was first starting out, though. (g)

These days, instead of hitting grass burners for my I-just-goofed-up shot, it's a major-league topped shot where I attempt to drive the ball straight down into the ground with the bottom of the club. I usually hit a two-hop chopper to the shortstop in that situation. Happens about 3-5 times a round.
