I never really got into the hybrid thing. I thought it would be a golf fad. lol.
so i demo the nike SQ 2 hybrid at my course and i really liked it. Im looking to get one for myself. I am not the SQ guy, so i was wondering if you guys knew the best hybrid. Who has the best hybrid clubs? and is there a good hybrid-type shaft?

There is no best Hybrid. It is whatever feels best to you.

As far as it being a fad. Take a look at the latest Golf magazine. They have the detailed specifics on Hybrids going farther, going higher, and landing better done with robot testing.

Agreed.. There is no "best".

That said, I think Adams has been doing it longer and has some of the easier ones to hit. I also like the Nike Rescues quite a bit. I can pluck a ball out of a fairway trap with my Nike 6 rescue better than I can hit some irons off the fairway!

I hit a 3 iron pretty solid but I blindly bought a Taylor Made 3 hybrid burner...and I knock the snot out of it...straight! Feels good. I got the steel shaft however. They were on sale at Golfsmith in Clearwater for $129. I didn't want the graphite shafts. Never had much luck with control with graphite.

When I think of hybrids, Adams comes to mind first, then Taylor Made. Having said that, I love my Cleveland Halos. They aren't the latest and greatest, but they work for me.

I think the Taylor Made Rescue Mids are the best hybrids ever made. Now you can get them brand new for about $75 in some stores and way cheaper on ebay, look into them.

They are pretty awesome hybrids. If you like these, you'll like the Nickent, too. Perform pretty similar.

I have not tried the Adams but am going to give them a look. Selling my Cobra Hybrids as I just did not like them. A waste of money, for me.

Exotics XCG and TM Burner T Rescue would be my top 2 in terms of fairway woods and hybrids. Exotics get the top spot purely because of feel and their longer distance.

Another good hybrid is the Callaway Heavenwood.

I don't think hybrids are a fad. What I think they really are, are throwbacks to older model fairway woods. Shafts have gotten so long and heads so larger on the newer fairway woods, that for some (not all) they have become hard to hit. Hybrids have tamed the shaft length back down and brought back head sizes that are more usuable from a variety of lies.

I love my Cobra DWS mainly because it is quite forgiving and reatively hot across the entire face. Trust me, I hit it all over the face. It can drop and stop or be delofted for a run out shot. But if you wanted to work the ball left or right, it is virtually useless. I'd put Adams and Taylormade as the grandfathers of the hybrid movement. And in most cases, in most industries, whoever has been making something the longest is usually the best and most respected.

I grabbed some Nike Slingshots on sale a couple months ago -- 2H, 3H and 4H -- and they have become staples in my bag. They are almost too easy to hit. I find myself trying to leave approach shots 160-200 yards out just so I can grab one of these and smooth it on in there. They aren't the newest thing on the market (hence the sale) but "new" does not necessarily always (or even most of the time) mean "best."

truthfully, there is one club that you must try. I endorse nickent clubs fully. They're 3dx r/c hybrids are amazing. They're actually pretty prominent on the tour. The clubs are a little cheaper in price which is great but in my opinion, they hit fantastically. I've hit a few different hybrids (adams, nike, taylormade) and the nickents outperform them all. The weighting and sole just feel really good, like I can't mess up. I use my 4 hybrid as a 5 wood and a rescue club togeter. It's great.

I agree with everything said here, except the statement that the Cobra cannot be worked. It can. I'm no great golfer by a large margin, but I can draw or even hook the DWS at will. I can fade or slice a ball with the standard DWS. It is the easist hybrid for me to hit. I would bet that the Baffler Pro version would be even easier to work.

And, now, I will be happy to accept my endorsement check from Cobra. LOL.

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
