I am 6' and I feel like I am bent over a substantial amount when I play golf. For example after 18 holes, its not un-common to experience some lower back pain for me.

I'm going to get fitted for new irons next month. I'm still on the fence on what irons I will be getting, but this issue of club length popped into my head. I play with my cousin often and he is always bent way over, to the point where it looks uncomfortable. I have asked him about club length and he plays a standard, though it appears he shouldn't.

So my question is simply, do you play extended length clubs and if so how tall are you?

It depends on your stance and posture (no one swings like you) so definitely get fitted, but I am 6'2", my irons are +5" over standard.

I should be hitting +.5", But height doesn't neccesarily mean longer irons. It also depends on your arm length.

Not sure, but I'd guess he meant +.5", and forgot the decimal point. Otherwise, I'm impressed he can hit the ball at all with those monsters.

Whoops yeah thought I put the "." in there, makes a big difference.

Why don't you work out a bit? Having stronger abs will reduce lower back pain and improve your posture. I've also found that regular cardio makes walking 18 holes a breeze.

I used to have lower back pain all the time after only 9 holes, being 6' 2" tall I figured I needed longer clubs.....not true, my posture/stance and swing were what was causing the back pain. I'm using standard length Nickent 3DX RC hybrid/iron set along with a much better swing this year and no back pain even after 18 holes.

I am 6' and my clubs are +.5" and 2* upright, best move I ever did was get fitted.

Do you ever catch yourself missing to the left? I was told the extra .5" in length would equate to another degree upright?

I fitted myself on the Ping website (having a standard posture and young/flexible body this made sence - the shop I got the irons from did the measurements and got same results). There's more to it than height though, as has been mentioned. Arm length (more specifically, distance between hands to ground) plays an important part.

I am 6'1" - I got Blue dot (+0.75) with +1/2 longer irons. The pro at my home club has the same stats as me but goes for Black dot (standard lie) because he prefers to hit the ball with a little draw.

You made a good choice deciding to get fit!

I'm 6'1" and play .5" long and 2* up. I just played my first round yesterday with my new irons and the length was a notable difference as well as the more upright club head. I no longer only had dirt and grass on the toe of my club, but spread evenly along the edge.
My wrist to floor is bout 36".
