So I'm one of those odd people that is kinda both handed. I write with my left but do many things "right handed" as well. When you're the only person left handed in the family and dad and grandpa teach you how to swing a baseball bat and golf club naturally they want to teach you right handed, they forget you're left handed so you play that way your whole life. Not that I have any intention of changing now, I'm perfectly happy playing as a righty. I'm sure other left handers have gone through this ordeal.

So who's a lefty that plays golf righty or vice versa?

Did you have to make any adjustments to your swing to counter this? I feel that being left handed gives me an advantage over someone who's right handed because my strong(left) hand is my lead hand in the downswing and I have much more feel with it compared to people who are right handed. I hit the ball remarkably straight, when I'm playing well anyways. Sometimes I wonder if my right hand should be more "active" in my swing as I don't really have any conscious feeling in it when I'm swinging.

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Swing tips section. I don't mean to make it a dedicated swing tips thread, just curious who else is like me and any tips they've used to balance things out.

I have read a few things that claim left handers swinging righty actually have an advantage over right handers swinging righty for the very reason I mentioned(lead arm is the strong arm). Some seem to think it is a disadvantage as well, although they really give no reason why.

Are their any pro teachers or professionals players that are like this?

I'm a lefty and play baseball, hockey and golf right handed. It's kind of hard to say if it's an advantage or not though. It doesn't make me hit the ball any further that's for sure as I'm not a long hitter. My drives probably average around 230 yards.

I do everything right handed except the things you use 2 hands to do such as golf, baseball and hockey.

I wish I played golf right handed due to the fact that when you go in golf stores there is hardly anything left handed compared to all the stuff they have thats right handed. If youre out playing with some buddies and theres a club you want to hit to try out youre out of luck too. My dad said when I was young he tried to make me swing right handed but I always picked the club left handed so...oh well

I can play both ways, but play much better right handed. I play tournament golf right handed, but I can still break 90 lefty. I only play lefty a few times a year for fun, and maybe the occasional hustle

For years I played righty but putted lefty. It happened by chance really. My first set was righty, but didn't come with a putter. My dad, who was lefty, gave me an old putter and I learned the game putting lefty. Once I started getting better, I got a bullseye putter and started putting right handed on right to left putts, and lefty on left to right putts. Soon I noticed that I putted better right handed so I made the switch full time.

Lately I have been putting so poorly, I'm once again experimenting with the old bullseye...

The lesson here is, if you are right handed and right-eye dominant you might see the line better putting left handed. Try it!

left-handed, golf righty, but swing a baseball bat left-handed.

I remember someone saying that Phil Mickelson is right-handed but golfs lefty. I don't remember why Phil did so. And I'm not sure this is even true.

Phil is right handed but plays lefty, thats true. As far as why, I don't know either. Maybe he's like me - he can see the line better from the left side, being right eye dominant. Who knows. Either way, he used to putt great until Dave Pelz got a hold of him and screwed him up.

A guy in my league, a lefty in most everything else he does, swings righty and putts lefty. It seems to be working for him.

I started the game playing as a lefty and switched to righty. I'm mostly right handed and it seemed the touch shots were easier from the dominate hand side. It probably is an advantage to be a bit ambidextrous. Hitting a baseball was always done left handed.

Don't know for sure, but I think Ben Hogan may have been left handed and played righty. Is that right? And who was the famous guy that could shot par either right or left handed?

Im right handed but I play left. Even baseball i swing left, but if I wanted to swing like a righty, which I do on occasion, I still grip the bat like a lefty, it's wierd.

My logic for being a lefty in sprts is because I want my dominant hand at the top for stability. I find if I place my dominant hand (right) at the bottom I have less controll with my swing but I cant great distance, in relation to when I first started swing a club.

Yeah, Phil is a righty who plays lefty. When Phil learned to play golf, his dad taught him. Phil just tried to mirror his father's swing, so he stood opposite him while practicing (face to face). Since his father was righty, Phil was forced to practice lefty in order to copy his swing.

I believe Johnny Miller is left handed. I have a daughter who is left handed but plays right handed. Do whatever works best for you.

I play hockey as a lefty, but everything else including baseball, golf, darts, I'm a righty. I believe my tendency for baseball was as a lefty, but my coach moved me to the left side of the plate for some reason. My coach for hockey must have given me a choice and let me stick with it. Golf...haven't tried lefty, but think I would have a tough time adapting at this point in my life.

So what about if you're left handed(but play right handed) and are right eye dominant?

That's pretty cool if that is true. If I remember right he said before that his left hand tries to dominate his swing so it makes sense that he'd be left handed.

I have never hit a golf ball left handed, I should try it just to see how good(or bad) I am at it.

[QUOTE=shortstop20;253042]So what about if you're left handed(but play right handed) and are right eye dominant?

It doesn't matter what side you play from. Some people who are right-eye dominant tend to see the line better from the left side, but not everyone is like this. I know from experience that I see more break and instinctively aim to the right of the target when putting lefty. My aim is better from the right side, but I see less break. Most people don't aim right at their target. As if putting wasn't hard enough already...

My Dad is right handed but plays left handed. This is because his Dad was left handed and had a set of left handed clubs that my Dad used to play with when he was a kid, not even realizing this was not normal. He is a teaching pro and says that now playing lefty is sometimes helpful for teaching because the student can mirror what he sees my Dad do.

A few years after Dad became a pro he decided to try playing righty and bought a set of clubs (Pings) and played for about a half season this way, but said it just didn't feel right. His best score playing as a righty was a +9 81, but being a scratch as a lefty he decided to stick to that. The good news out of this was that those clubs became my first set a couple years later.
