My instructor gave me some drills to help keep my hips from swaying. He has me practicing with my feet touching. Any other suggestions that will help train my hips not to sway?

Define "sway"? Your hips should move forward quite a bit on the downswing - to the point where the lead hip gets outside of your front foot.

I guess my hips (not all the time) tend to slide forward more than rotate.

For me, the power from the hip rotation is what slides my hips forward.

Same problem and I agree with above...

Swaying forward I don't think is a big deal... swaying back is a killer... I end up pushing and slicing and/or hitting way behind the ball.

What I have found (and this is just me), is when you take your swing back straighten out the right knee... it almost braces any sway so all you can do is rotate.

Swaying back is a kill move. I know from experience. Lack of flexibility is top cause if you ask me. Limber up, get some exercise, lose a few pounds if applicable, and learn some ways to improve your flexibility. Roger Fredricks has a 3 dvd set. One of the dvds is just for the flexibility as it relates to golfers. Link below...

If you have a couple of broken shafts, I've got a good drill. Any stick will do though.
Stick one in the ground (grip up) so that it's touching the outside of your right foot at address. Put another in the ground outside your left foot. You should be able to take your backswing w/o bumping into the shaft on the right and swing through w/o bumping the shaft to the left. Actually... you should finish facing the one on the left.

Actually, I am in the gym 5-6 days a week and stretch daily. I am very limber.

That is the same drill my teacher gave me this winter, but I had to use my imagination. I tried not to bump the shaft up my right leg and I had to move in to the shaft outside my left leg. I'm right handed. the imaginary line up my back leg was angled toward the target but the line up my left leg was vertical, straight up from the outside of the left ankle. All while keeping my feet flat on the ground. I felt a big change in my speed.
