Hey guys, I was at the range today and I swung my driver, and on my follow through, I hit the metal divider between the two mats. It got dinged and cut near the shaft. I was just wondering if I could mail this back to Callaway (it is a Diablo) and get it replaced. My friend said I could, but I just wanted to make sure.

Here is a picture of the dent

Thanks!

Man - I hate that happened to you. IMO it would take GREAT customer service on their part for you get it replaced, the warranty usually doesn't cover abuse (sorry not trying to be dick but that's not really normal use).

Give them a call for sure.

Good luck

hey no offense taken with the 'normal use' thing haha. i was standing too close to that divider, it was my fault in that sense. But I've heard Callaway has great customer service, so hopefully they can help me

If Callaway can't replace it, does it look like it can still be used with little to no consequence? I don't want to burn another couple hundred dollars on a driver...also, can you buy just a head? The shaft and grip are completely fine, so if I can't get it replaced, maybe getting a new head would be smart.

Tough break. If Callaway doesn't replace it and I think they are within their rights not to, I would probably hit some more balls and see if you think there is an issue. If it seems fine I'd just use it. If it seems to be a problem you should be able to get a replacement head and a club maker to fix it for you no problem.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Go see if you think it makes that much of a difference, but I would contact Callaway first.

looks like you topped the ball on the heel of the club and not hit a divider. Beings as i demo clubs and see this oh so very often.

I think the ball would squeeze before metal. Be funny if callaway bought that story tho. You could tell them that that's YOUR "normal play"---the ole shank-and-dent.....good luck!!

Well if this is the case he may have a better case with Callaway for replacement?

*EDIT* Beaten to the punch!

I was there. He hit the divider (made a loud noise), looked at the club and saw that. A topped ball would not cut the driver like it did.

let me try to get a better picture on here from my camera as opposed to my crappy computer camera. you can make the call on whether that was caused by a metal divider or a ball.

Would they buy that it was simply a topped ball? I dont know if i want to be all sneaky like that, but just wondering.

You are the first person on this forum who has dented his driver and not blamed it on a "buddy" or their "brother". At least you are honest about that.
I would not even bother contacting Callaway. The club would not split if it hit a golf ball, and even if it was a ball and nothing else, they would be under no obligation to replace it, as the shot would come under the category of "abnormal use".

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yeah, I agree. Normal use is hitting the ball with the clubface. I can't turn around and smack a golf ball with the back of my driver and expect that to be deemed "normal use" just because it involved a golf ball.

You've done the honorable thing thus far and owned up to it. Continue to do that and buy yourself a new driver.

I agree that he shouldn't do as others have said and make up a story about that being caused by a ball, but sometimes it's a good policy to go ahead and give someone a shot at giving you great service. These drivers don't cost near when they retail for and it may be worth a driver to Callaway to potentially make a customer for life. I don't think there is anything dishonorable about calling them with the truth (maybe pointless and embarrassing, but not dishonorable).

I still say give them a call and give them the honest truth...

Agreed, this is how lifetime customers are made... they may just do it. I have seen this type of service with the reputable snowboard companies, on a case by case basis.

Calloway (Taylor Made, Ping, who-ever) do not make OEM heads that you can "buy" and replace. A licensed/franchised Calloway dealer may be able to get a new head from the factory, but you cannot, commercially.

I agree with everyone on the second page here; call up Calloway, explain the "accident" in the truthful manner and they may - as good customer service means more customer's later - replace it for you or at minimal cost (shipping, handling, etc.) ... you won't know until you try. Good luck!

I called Callaway and they were very helpful and said they would be able to replace my driver! All the stories about great customer service were very accurate. I obviously recommend Callaway over anyone else because of how they handled my incident.
