Where is Morgan Pressel?

While Steve Duemig may be happy to keep singing her praises, I am not. She's playing horribly, putting horribly, and in general is not living up to expectations.

Thoughts?

Though it's still VERY early in her career, I'm with you on this thread. She's spent so much energy early on complaining about the likes of Michelle Wie that it seems (at least for now) her game has suffered for it. Though Wie's a part-time pro, she seems to contend in every tournament she's in, and is a legit threat to set an all-time record when (not if) she wins her first major in the next year or so.

But, like I said, it's still early in the Morgan Pressel show. I think she'll be a solid pro eventually, along the lines of a Liselotte Neumann, maybe. To be honest, the player she reminds me of is Dottie Pepper... a good amount of wins, even a couple of majors -- a fiery competitor who sometimes let emotions get in the way of getting the job done.

Three top-10 finishes in 12 starts and 27th on the money list. I'd take it for my rookie year if I was an LPGA rookie. :)

Morgan Pressel isn't as good as Michelle Wie, plain and simple. She might eventually be, but she isn't right now.

Pressel hasn't played very well this year like Erik said, but she has held it together nonetheless. She could start playing great golf at anytime though and move way up the money list.

I guess the verdict is somewhere in the middle on this one. For a rookie, her standings aren't too bad at all. However, her expectations are a little higher than most rookies, so I guess it could be a disappointment so far.

I'll just let the rest of the rookie year play out and then see where things stand. I bet she will be higher on the money list when the season ends than she is now.

Morgan certainly doesn't have the raw talent that Wie has but she has a better head. She will find her legs. When she does find herself in contention she will know how to handle it. The girl knows how to win. She has won everything at her level so far so I think she will be ok.

Imagine graduating high school and being thrust into pro athletics with all that Callaway money and travel and press and pressure all without the structure of team and coach.

Putting your hands on your head in disbelief and worrying about what someone else has done on the 72nd hole of the US Open, to me, doesn't show she has a good head. If anything, Morgan has to prove to me (and others) that she can play a tournament without letting her head get in the way.

I'm all for being competitive and firery, but not to a point where it affects your swing. Bob Rotella has said that you should always expect your opponent to make a great shot or long putt so when it happens, it doesn't surprise you. For the same reason, you shouldn't get worked up about a bad shot. It's gonna happen. Deal with it. It is the best way to keep your emotions in check on the golf course.

Fairways and Greens.

Agreed. I believe it was the Fields Open earlier this year where Pressel was bawling like a baby immediately after the round because she didn't play well. I cut her some slack on that, but I'd never go as far as to say she's got a better head on her shoulders than Wie. She can throw a tantrum with the best of 'em.

That said, both of these girls are just that... girls. Give 'em time. They'll be good for years to come.
