I see more folks trying to mask it or fix it with a club purchase.

Virtually any pro can fix a slice with virtually any student in one or two lessons with ease.

Why do people put up with it???

My son and I played behind a foursome yesterday that drug on and on. Three of them were slicing into oblivion every shot. It took eons for them to move through the course.

Not once did they offer us to play through.

Two lessons.....that is all it will take....maybe not even that. ARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I have had multiple lessons. Still slice. But I sure can hit it straight at the driving range. Some of us just aren't very good at this game. Your real complaint should be: "Why don't slow players let me play through?!?"

I suppose you always hit it straight? Maybe they were having a bad day? Maybe they just like to go out and play. I rarely practice. I have been to the range once this year. Hit the chipping green for 30 minutes 4 times.

I absolutely do not hit it straight every time. Never had and never will.

My beef is that I've seen virtually eveyone I've ever played with...including me.... especially me.....begin the game with an ugly slice. I put up with it too long and it was "curable" in one lesson. All of my golfing buddies did the same thing.

I suppose people don't realize that it can be something that you can drop from your game if you decide to do so. It's not hard to do, either.

They will enjoy the game more....and not just in the long run.....the benefits will hit them immediately.

I wouldn't perform surgery on myself....I'd see a doctor.

Constant slicing is something a swing doctor routinely fixes for people.

Okay.....I'll get off my soapbox now and go back to shooting my bogey golf rounds.

I absolutely do

It is not as easy as you make it seem. First they would have to want a lesson. Then they would actually have to practice. It needs to be ingrained into muscle memory. Without practice afterwords, they lesson is pointless.

True.

I was assuming that they are, in fact, tired of slicing all the time. Maybe they like it....sort of a comfort zone. They are able to eliminate everthing but the exteme right. I've got tons to work on with my game, no doubt....namely bad, arthritic knees....but dang it man, they can see a lot more of the course if they'd only try....just a bit. For reference....I'm not talking about beginers....I'm talking about veteran golfers.....who accept this as their fate....the chronic slice.

Some people are simply happy with the state of their golf game as it is and don't necessarily want to put in the work to fix their problems. I know plenty of people who only golf occasionally because it's fun to get out and have a hit and have no desire to work on their game. Sure if they hit it straight they'd have more fun but when they weigh up the time and effort it would take to make that happen they don't see it as worth it (even if it is bugger all as you say). I guess the mindset is "If only play every 6 months and it's fun when I do why bother spending money to get lessons".

That's the great thing about golf; people can enjoy it in their own way and on their own terms and if that means slicing, and kicking the ball to better lies, and not playing by any of the rules or what have you then good for them - not everyone is out there for the same reason as you are. They should have let you play through though .

True.

Practice is boring and takes time. Most people don't care enough to take the time to practice. I am in this group. I like to play golf for fun. I play once a week(league) and maybe 1 or 2 times per month outside of my league. I am sure if I actually did practice, I would get into the single digits. But just getting out there and having fun with my buddies is what golf is about for me.

I'm probably the one of the exceptions to the rule. But, I 100% fixed my slice with a new driver purchase!

Now I'm fighting a hook that creeps in here and there, as I need to unlearn what I was doing to combat my slice.

The club I switched from was pretty stiff, but allowed a TON of twist. If I swung anything more than 60% that baby would twist right open, and I could literally slice into the wrong fairway!

New shaft is a little stiffer, but has very very little flex. So the slice is gone!

2 lessons huh? Please coach me.... A slice has so many reasons, some are indeed cureable very quickly, some take a LONG LONG time to fix.

But i agree - trying to fix your slice with different clubs is not very efficient.

I'd love to take lessons to cure my slice. My slice made me donate a ball to the driving range yesterday. Only problem is I can't afford to get lessons. Well, I probably could, but I'd have to deal with my wife giving me flack about it.

True.

I am tired of slicing all the time. I do practice. Normally 2 or 3 trips to the range a week. I have had lessons. 3 on just the slice. Sometimes, people just suck.

The good news is that I am finally getting a 3 wood, so maybe i can keep that straighter and use it off the tee to stop the bleeding.

Tell her it will save you money because you won't donate so many golf balls back to the course!

Generalising a little are we here? For some it may be that easy, but it is not for most. Taking a lesson is one thing, but no instructor is the same as the other and no player is the same. To cure a slice you need to make the change, not only let the instructor point it out.

If it was as easy as this, why does Tiger keep hitting his driver right? With Hank Haney as coach and being the worlds best, you'd expect he could fix it pretty quickly. Obviously not.

for some reason I've started getting a slice back into my swing which is extremely strange since I haven't really sent one that way for a long time. However, it's not too bad, it's just one of those spinners that rise high and to the right. I can still play it has a 15 yard fade lol. The slice is really just people who don't really play trying to hit the ball as hard as they can and trying to manipulate the club against it. Whatever, they are allowed to play the game as they like, but it would be a little better for us if those guys knew the rules of golf etiquette. I mean for gosh sakes, it's written on the card, probably on the cart, and at the clubhouse when they go pay. You think people could take just 30 seconds and read them.
