So, my cousin is a pro and can get nike, macgregor, bridgestone, cleveland, and titleist sets half off. I'm saving up to get a new set by thanksgiving. I'm currently hitting wilson blades, the old goosenecks from 10 years ago. I don't want to give up hitting blades, because that's all I've ever played with and I've tried to hit cavity backs, and chunk the ball like you wouldn't believe. I tried to hit a friend's set of callaway x-22's and failed miserably, it felt like a small child was hanging onto the end of my club. Anywho, so I like the feel of my blades, and that's what I've always played since I was a kid. I like the victory reds, but I've heard good things about all the others as well.

Any thoughts?

try all the clubs on the launch monitor with your irons and see what gives you the best feel and results, you might end up with a combo set and upgrade only the mid to longer irons with semi-cavities.

Titleist 910 D2 9.5 Driver
Titleist 910 F15 & 21 degree fairway wood
Titleist 910 hybrid 24 degree
Mizuno Mp33 5 - PW
52/1056/1160/5

"Yonex ADX Blade putter, odyssey two ball blade putter, both  33"

You're a low handicap player but you chunk cavity backs? I'm confused.

Really... just go try every iron you can get your hands on. When you ask someone what irons you should get on a forum, you're basically asking them what irons they currently use and more than likely the responses you'll get will be "I have the [enter club model here] and love them!"

Everyone swings differently. Just get what is best for you.

I was going to say the same thing... When I started playing golf the pro always told me to learn on blades because if you can hit blades you can hit anything...

If you're playing Wilson Staffs, the Macgregors are probably the closest. Nike & Titleist are virtually the same stick. Don't know the Bridgestones, but I have an old set of Cleveland Byron Nelson blades that are sweet.

IME, every forged blade I've hit plays pretty much the same. Hit 'em all and get the set that suits you.

Weapons of choice:
Irons/wedges: Titleist Tour Grind
Driver:Titleist 909D2
3 Wood: Tour Edge Exotic
Putter: Odyssey White Hot

yeah, i don't know why, i just couldn't get a good strike on them. i tried to hit my girlfriend's cavity back oversized clubs as well, to no avail.

i understand what you guys mean about trying them out the irons, but i always feel bad when i spend lots of time with a salesperson and don't end up buying their product, then going round and purchasing through my cousin. so i usually try to sneak off by myself to a launch monitor, but inevitably a pesky salesman is always lurking.

If you feel bad, just buy a box of balls or a pair of shoes or something.

First mistake is going some place where there is a sales person. Go to a PGA Professional who is a club fitter. Unless every course in your area is a goat ranch, they are going to have demo clubs for you to try out on the range. Going to a golf retail store and talking to a sales person who likely can't break 100 won't help the process. Especially if you're just trying different irons by hitting into a net in the store.

You said your cousin was a pro, right? Does he not have demo clubs at his course?

he lives in colorado, so i'd have to get the clubs shipped to me.
