How many putts per round do you guys average and what are your favorite putting drills?

I average 28-32

My favorite putting drill is to measure one putter length out and knock four in. If i knock in four in a row, I move it out one putter grip.

Any good confidence building ones?

Far, far, far too many. I'd say an average round is between 32 and 45, depending on how used I am to the greens.

I saw this one you posted on your blog and used it the other day. I ended up practicing putting for an hour solid. Good stuff.

I average around 32. I love the 3 foot drill made famous by Phil. 100 in a row is impressive. I have only gotten to 27.

I agree this is a great drill only I limit myself to making 20 in a row. I just don't have the time or patience to stand around and try to make 100 in a row. I got into the 60s a couple times when I was younger and had the time to practice.

Right now my best round is 32 putts and worst is 36. I dont have a set drill yet. Usually I practice a few from only 2-3 ft just to make sure my stroke is in sync. Then I get to the crazy 18+ footers and hope to get them within the 2-3ft range I just worked on lol

Don't worry about puts of 20+ feet, that will come naturally. Work on those shorties and you will drop 5-8 shots fast!

I average around 32 to 34 putts. I think i might practice my short putts alot more next time i hit the practice green. Ill even give the mickelson 3ft thing ago.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

36/round (with 3 3 putts). Worst part of my game by far. Last 3 rounds have been 34 (w/ 1 3 putt) though - pulled out the Pelz putting bible and started working on a straight to straight stroke which seems to be helping.

I average 36 putts. My practice routine consists of a few minutes prior to a round, if there's a practice green close by the 1st tee box.
I went to the bookstore a few weeks ago to look for Tour Tempo. They didn't have it so I picked up, Zen Putting because my boss threatend to fire me if I left empty handed. I'm only through the 2nd chapter, but it's brought my attention to a few little things that I already knew, but didn't fully realize. If a golfer is in the single handicap range, they already have the potential, skills, ability to shoot great scores. I would guess that the hurdle is the mental game and not so much the drills, practice, etc. I think you would get to a point of diminishing returns if you practice too many drills.

In addition to not practicing, I know my putting boils down to my head. I'm pretty happy with the roll I putt on the ball. I tend to rush my pre-putt routine to keep
the group moving which is something I'm working on slowing down.

One thing I learned on my HS golf team with short putts was that you have to put it past the hole. I remember this lesson so significantly because on a 3 or 4 footer that breaks, you can "blast" through the break if you hit it firm enough. I find this works for me when the cup looks a lot bigger than the actual size.

Hanging around here, I've come to realize that I can actually shoot some good scores if I practiced putting a little. Some of the practice routines and regiments here are pretty inspiring.

This is pretty much all I do when I practice. I will do it for about 45 minutes. I probably do about 75 or so. Then I do the 6 foot drill (it is the exact same except from 6 feet) and that is it. I do three rounds of 10 of those. If I do this 2 or 3 times a week I am a machine inside of 6 feet. If I don't do it I notice I miss the short ones more often. I almost never play a 3 footer outside the hole and I always try to be firm.

I haven't practiced in 3 or 4 weeks and I definitely notice. I just don't have that feeling from 3 feet I can't miss I had when I was doing this weekly.

u know, i saw you post this somewhere else and I have started using this drill

i used to do the ol Philly Mac circle drill, but got bored of it after using yours, i feel more confident on my 6footers i start w a putter length and as you mentioned move up a grip lenght each time i make myself hit 12 balls in a row, before i move the grip up if i dont do 12, i start over - it helps you get that "feeling" of knocking one in that matters, for say a must make bird, par or even bogey!! haha! once i get to about 12 feet out, i try to hit 3 of 6 balls or maintain 50% then i do 7 paces (or yds), then 12 then 18 to practice lag putting all i want to do is get it within my "comfort cirlce" of 3 ft - like ol PM says, if its in thet circle, i know i can make it GREAT post BTW!!!! PS - I average about 30-34 putts/round - like i have mentioned before, I am starting to make more birdies lately, which I account for better putting and closer approach shots. I am usually a pretty boring golfer, w a bunch of pars. Also, now that I have a 4w that I can hit good, I am scoring more on par 5's, as I can reach them in 2 or at least get within 10-20 yds or so. I practice a tonne (or so I think) at least 6+ hours a week (sometimes more - work pending)...pretty much on the short game (putting chipping etc.) I only hit a small bucket of balls every week or even every other week.

I average between 30-33 putts a round. A bad round for me is 36-37 and a good is under 30.

I'm definitely going to start trying that drill of making X number of 3 foot putts and then X number of 6 foot putts.

Honestly, my best days of scoring is when I'm making a ton of 5-6 footers.

I'm saving pars, I'm making birdies...it's all good when I'm putting well from that range.

Good to hear it man, that is exactly how I am putting now. Allot more confidence! I like how you pointed out the importance of those 5-6 footers even if they are for a bogey, your still saving a shot. Great post man!

PS, I think I'm gonna look at a four wood!

I average around 30-32 putts per round.

Saw a good drill Vijay was practicing during the PGA Championship. He had an 18 inch metal ruler. He laid it on the putting green about 6 inches from the cup, put the ball on the hole in the ruler and then putt down the ruler. Look like a great drill for keeping the putter square to the target line.

i average around 30 per round. Apparently my putting doesn't reflect my scoring all that much as i shot an 85 with 26 putts and the very next round i shot 76 (with 4 doubles) with 35 putts. My short game was the totality of my scoring this summer, i.e. i need ball striking like we need a better economy
