Howdy guys. Should I go to ATU and play some golf or should I go strait down to Q-School?

Either way I will be moving to Florida for the whole year to practice and will either play at ATU or go pro...... What to do?

Go to college for at least two years, especially if you can get a golf scholarship. Play some golf, meet some people, and play in some college tournaments.

Unless someone has actually seen you play, knows something about your academics ("straight"), etc. there is no way anyone could answer that question. My money is on go to school. But if you have the money and the qualifications, Q school isn't that far away and you may get the quick education you need (one way or the other).

A degree is like a passport. You can't go anywhere with it but there is lots of places you can't go without it.

Get the degree, get the experience playing in school then go for it.
College is more then books. You learn about life and people.

Good luck.

Q-School
College or University will always be there and loans to get through it
if you have the $$ now and the game, get on it and get ur arse to Q-School - ur only young once

im not against an education, but school was never a big focus for me
I have a TONNE of friends who all went to school, have tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt and still only make $60/year
I have a grade 12 education and still make triple what my high school friends make now or ever will make
Really, what the hell is an Arts and Science degree gonna do for you.....

If your older, more mature and didnt make the tour, you will appreciate school a lot more
Spend more time studying and concentrating on what's important - getting your degree or partying w cute college girls (which in turn, will take you focus off of golf)
And you will spend your money there a lot more wise, than on beers and dates

Make a run and keep us in the loop!

Go to school. Even if it's only for a year. You'll play in some tournaments with a lot at stake that will prepare you for Q school.

Plus, you never know who you are sitting next to in class. That person could have a friend/relative who is either a professional golfer or has spent years in the golfing industry and can provide you with information you never even thought about.

Whichever you choose, best of luck.

Go to college. You`ll be able to get some valuable experience, work on your game, and GET AN EDUCATION,which you`ll need if you don`t make it[which few do],or make it big,and need knowledge on investments and other financial matters.By the way,are you playing Diamante, from the tips,or Hot Springs C.C. Arlington, from the tips? If you`re out at Diamante, you might be good enough for a smaller tour[ not the PGA or Nationwide],with your handicap. Go to school,IMO. Couldn`t you get up to Fayetteville? You`d get a lot more experience, ect, and the practice facilities, home course, ect would be like "Hog Heaven" compared to Russellville. But, either way, good luck and GO HOGS!

Its been a while since I've been on here so hopefully you went to college. If not then you should go. Maybe go for your degree in professional golf management if you love golf. no matter what you do the college route will atleast give you something to fall back on incase your dreams of being the next big thing on tour don't work out the way you. I'm not trying to say you couldn't do it but given the number of really good golfers in the world (scratch or better) and the number of people there are on the tour the odds aren't in anyones favor.

Yeah, my best score on the D from the tips is 67, the Arlington 66.

My vote is for college. Sure you *can* go back later, but it gets harder. You can play golf there and it's easier to go back to finish a degree than to start one later. It's a good time/place to make connections that may be valuable whether or not your pro career turns real.

Actually, I've changed my opinion. If you are truly better than a +3, then go try it. Who cares, you only live once, you never know, you could play great at Q-School and make it on the Tour.

I think it's worth a shot.

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
