I'm sure there is some kind of junior golf program that has tournaments. I grew up in middle of nowhere central PA and they even had one. It was a great deal too 20 bucks and there was 10 tournaments plus a match play tourney.

GTJGA - Greater Tampa Junior Golf Association - been around for 30 years, Ryuji Imada played in it. They do an excellent job and have PGA tour rules officials that help out. It's very affordable also, $50 member fee for year, usually $35 per tournament - play the better courses in the area, including 2 or 3 private ones.

AJGA - the real deal, but very $$$$$$$

FCWT - Looks pretty good but $$$

Hurricane Golf - just heard of it recently

OMG What a nightmare, watching teenagers play golf! Aren't HS teams enough, they already swarm the courses like a plague. WOW; sorry for such a strong reaction but do you know any teenagers? As a HS teacher I have known thousands and cannot think of ten I would allow on a course. WOOF, I need a chill pill.

Then apparently none of them played golf. I've never seen a kid who is even semi good at golf act disrespectfully towards the course. Now towards the people, thats a different story......and being 15 years old myself I'll tell you I'm always respectful of the course and the people on the course. Idk what school you taught at but down here we act respectfully. I've been looking at some things like FJGA or Premier Junior Tour. They offer some great tournaments. Especially the Premier Junior Tour because they have scouts looking for good high school golfers there.

WHAT are you talking about. First of all, he is looking to play golf, not watch people play it, and second, most of the people who have posted on this thread are teenagers. I know several disrespectful teenage golfers, but i know 20 times more respectful ones.

Anyway, back to the question, you should go with the Met PGA like i and others suggested above. I play in the New England PGA and we have great courses and some good competition.

Most all of the junior tournaments my 3 sons have played in have been very good. A few bad apples sprinkled in but in my watching 95% of the juniors are very respectfull of the game. Gotta feel good about that, they help looking for balls and most all of them get along. And here is a news flash...the winner usually 2 strokes over around par playing from the Mens white tees (ages 12), and the winner is right around par playing from the blue tees in the 15 and up age bracket. these kids are good, and my only exposure is watching in the Tampa area. And these are tough courses.

Junior golf is a major positive in the world today.

I thought I fell on my sword adequately in my post. But to my point; two of my students are wearing house arrest bracelets on their ankles, one girl showed up today with a broken hand from a fight, and one of our baby daddies is mad that diapers cost so much because now he can't get his upper grill next week. ... your mileage may vary.

I hope any kid who wants to play finds the opportunity and mentors to make it happen. I stand by my comment about HS golf, it is really hard to get a tee time after work when the schools have the munis tied up. I wish the Country Clubs let the HS golfers use their courses; after all they are their kids anyway.

Well thats good for you.. i could make the generalization and say that i hate all the old people at my course, they never want to play with me because im just some punk ass seventeen year old.

Oh boo hoo you cant get a tee time? so far as i see it, you dont have any more of a right to that time than anyone else does, why dont you fork over the money to go play at a country club? And, no. They certainly arent all country club kids, have you ever played a round of golf with the kids at your high school? id bet not. i would think that they probobly have more respect than you do, and ive only ever seen you on an internet forum. Freakin old people. Just kidding. But really, come on dude.

your description of the kids in the juvenile correctional facility is sad but actually quite funny. more power to you.

I do what I can for an old douche bag.

This thread should get back to the topic though. As a public course player there is a conflict between wanting golf to get new blood and wanting the place to maintain an old "men's club" feel. I finished a round with a HS girl the other day, she was very respectful if somewhat aloof and she had placed well in a local tourney the week before that included college age people. SO to the OP's question I would assume golf coaches from HS and colleges would know of what is going on in the area. RE the CC idea. Most of the kids really are from the families who belong to clubs and it really would be nice if the clubs stepped up, playing is down for them too. (I was one of those kids.)

    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
