Last night, I was out at the range with some friends. It was an informal event, I grabbed a driver, six iron, and a wedge and met them over for a bucket and a beer. One of the people have a video camera and video taped me taking some full swings with my 6 iron. The video is 4 swings, taken only from the back view. Can anybody please critque my swing and make comments suggestions. On the first and the last swing, the ball went directly at the target, on #2 and #3 it faded to the left.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

You have a nice swing... you lefties...

You seem to take the club back a little on the inside, though it seems it is not so much the arms as it is the hands...

Also, I see some serious overswing that although doesn´t cause you to reverse pivot, I am sure that if you shortened a tad would suite your body type much better and probably give you more control and distance... I think it may also help you finish with a little more balance... you can´t hold the finish for more than a second... the tennis shoes may be at some fault here as well.

And please, straighten that back... you´re gonna pull something at that speed of a swing...

At any rate, little medicine portions, please... your swing looks fine overall...

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

Seems to be a really good swing for a 21 handicap everyone of your shots seemed to be straight and have a nice ballflight.

Just curious but do you struggle with short game because with that swing you would be a 10-15 handicap.

if you wear some more colorful pants, from a distance, i will mistake you as john d.

love your swing. good tempo, massive clearing of the hips, a little overswing is no biggy.

Great swing (tad steep on the forward swing and some overswinging, but wouldn't worry about that now). Agree with working on your short game if your H.I. is accurate. If your H.I. is 21 and those swings/ball flights are representative of your long game on the course, really focus on putting, bunkers, 130 yards and in.

Thank you for the kind comments, what do you mean by overswinging?

I will work on straightening my back.

Im not quite as big as Mr. D (6'1, 225) maybe a younger version.

Think he means taking the club back too far. Looks like you get past parallel on the backswing.

nice video, not a bad swing at all.

question for the others - is this the best angle to record for others to analyze? or is face-on better?

there is that silkiness in your motion. i suspect it is born not made, and it is simply a pleasure to watch, at least to my eyes...

as others have inquired, is your handicap really 21? or are you age 21?

This angle is better than face on (both is really nice)

As far as "overswinging"--You go past parallel and are hitting a six iron as if you are in a long drive competition (which is how I hit the all clubs until I turned 30) You are flexible with good athletic ability and your swing is certainly powerful. However, it looks like you are expending a lot of energy during the process. Because of your athletic ability, you maintain your balance well (except on swing # 2) and swing really nicely through the ball making good ball contact. Again, I don't think you should worry about your full swing at this point. Work on your short game and your H.I. is sure to drop (probably very quickly)

how is this the wing of a 21 hcp? You must really blow it with the shortsticks! But hey that is over half the game!

If you really want to get nickpicky, I see a little chickenwinging of your left elpow on the downswing... which if you wanted perfect would drop towards your torso... However, I have the feeling you just wanted compliments on a silky smooth swing when you posted this

Hey man, nice swing. Your hands are in great position as you take the club away. You do have a bit of an over-swing. It looks like your front knee loops as you reach the top of your back-swing. If you control your front knee a bit more (keep it loose, but dont let it get out of control), you'll feel where you should finish your backswing.

Im also 6'2" 220lbs, struggle with posture on and off the golf course. My swing is very similar to yours, although I swing from the other side of the ball...

I don't know my handicap exactly - I would venture to guess it is probably closer to 18 or 19. The biggest problem in my game has been getting off the Tee and my putting.

I'm no swing expert, but what I notice is that you are bringing you hands back on a nice plane but coming down just a little bit steep, which would explain the fade. Nothing egregious though.

I'm no expert... just my two cents...

As has already been stated, you're taking the club back well past parallel. I'd shorten the back swing.

Also, your head has a tendency to dip down (towards the ground) on the back swing. It isn't a lot.. but it's noticeable. I think this partially prevents you from having a nice high follow through and causes some of your the balance issues that can be seen in shot #2.

Overall, not a bad swing - especially for a 18-20 handicapper!
