Make sure you get the 2009 if you do get a Vokey. It has red paintfill and the older, square grooves. If you get the 2010 C-C model with yellow paintfill, you would be getting the small grooves. There isnt really a point to getting the newer ones, as the older ones will perform better.

I havn't heard about scratch wedges so I can't give a review on them.

I've got a Vokey and it gives me loads of spin.
I'd recommend it.

i'm playing great with the vokeys and i get loads of spin from them.
i was able to hit a 40 meter approach for thick wet rough and get it to spin back 5 feet.
i was never able to hit such shots with my previous wedge so i suggest you buy the vokeys.

My vote is for the Cally wedges. I don't know about the new wedges, but if they are anything like the x-tours...they are awesome. I find they sit and look nice and their playability is good as well.

Taylormade is your only sensible option buy new xTF and

No you can't. You can buy the new grooves through 2010 or as long as the clubheads which were manufactured in 2009 last (as long as it isn't after Dec 31, 2010). Any such club purchased after 2010 will be illegal per the most current info available.

This isn't accurate. They can't be produced after 2010 but you can buy them and play them under the rules of golf. You can buy them until they run out. Will the Expert weight in?

My favorite wedges right now are the Mizunos with Quad Cut. Perfect amount of spin, great looks (the black ones).

Very simple guys:

- Manufacturers aren't supposed to make wedges (the clubheads) after Dec. 31, 2009. - They can assemble and sell any wedges produced before 12/31/09 through 2010. If they're available in a store somewhere in 2018 you could technically buy them. What, the cops are going to come and arrest you? They'll be non-conforming, and the USGA put the bottleneck on 2010 because it expects the manufacturers and retailers to abide by it in the spirit of the game. If you buy a "non-conforming" club made in 2009, assembled in 2010, and purchased in 2011... so what? The dates for consumers who won't be participating in the events in 2014 are basically arbitrary dates designed to curtail production of non-conforming clubs. For that matter, TaylorMade or whomever can continue to produce non-conforming clubs for years if they want - they just likely won't find a huge market for them and they'll all be non-conforming. There are non-conforming golf products out there now - golf balls that go too far, etc. In both cases, your equipment would simply be non-conforming. If you care about the rules, you know what penalty that entails. If you don't, well, it really doesn't make much of a difference to you. Also - and I'm guilty of this too, but I'm trying to change as of now - let's please stop saying "illegal" in this case. "Non-conforming" is the better term, particularly since it's only a condition of competition at this point.

I have not tried the new Mizuno wedges but I have been playing Mizuno wedges for some time and really like them best of all of the major manufactors. If I could chose any wedge and money was no object, I would go with the Miura wedges.

See Erik's post above... I believe that it confirms what I stated.... as far as what will be considered as nonconforming under the rules.

He is the expert I was asking. I was under the impression that they could make the wedges in 2010 and production had to stop 12/31/2010.

The rule change doesn't apply to us till 2014. I am playing perfectly by the rules until 2014 playing with the groves I currently do.

I can post legitimate scores till then with the equipment I currently play and play any local tournement I want. I personally will not change until 2014. The rule isn't for us hacks, it is for the pros and elite ametuers that play a game that we don't know. I am not going to rush out to buy the CC Vokey wedges, I actually plan on buying a set of wedges right at the end of 2010 or 11 and try to get a good deal on the larger grooved wedges. I will take any advantage I can within the rules of golf, and that rule isn't applied to me until 2014. I don't know why anyone would do different. To play the way the pros play? I don't think I play 7200 yard courses with greens that run at 12.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
