Don't know how many of you guys are into video games, but EA Sports has launched a Beta site for the latest online edition of Tiger Woods 2011.

http://tigerwoodsonline.ea.com/

You can play the final 3 at TPC Sawgrass as Tiger or create a golfer and play full rounds on a couple courses. The gameplay is a little choppy, but that could be more my computer than the site.

Three lousy shots and one brilliant shot can still make par...

Does this mean a return to PC titles for EA Sports games? Tiger Woods 08 was the last PGA Tour game to be released for home computers.

I don't know if this is actually '11. No where on the website was an '11 even mentioned. I think they are just releasing an online Tiger Woods game.
That said, Tiger's swing was no where near accurate. It looked more like Freddy Couples.

My next PS3 game is gonna be the newest Hot Shots game. My son and I will get a ton of play from this one.

How sweet would it be if EA Sports came out with a college golf video game? I would get in a heartbeat.

Probably never happen, just not much of a following. Would love to see them implement a progressive career where you either go to Q school or start on the nationwide tour then work your way up to the pga tour.

I would love that. I'd also like to see all the tourney stops even if you don't have the actual courses on the game.

It won't happen, but how cool would it be to play either one year of amateur events with an invite or two to play on the bug tour. Then, as you suggest, go to Q school and be flighted into one of the tours. Would also be cool to have sponsorships come back like in early editions.

Looking at some of the forums on EA's website, there's a course architect feature being planned. As someone whose computer crashed attempting to build a mountain in the Tiger Woods 2004 architect, that sounds interesting.

Tiger Woods 06 and 08 had that. You start as a "hacker", than try to win an excemption onto an amateur tour, then go to Q school if you can qualify, then get onto the EA sports tour, then the PGA tour, then try to win tournaments, then majors. I think my guy has 11 wins and 3 majors so far.

I have 01, 06, and 08 for PC. I miss the course architect.

They need to bring that back even just for a year...so I can get a copy!

The problem is that on this route you can't beat Tiger in your first round on the game and people want that instant gratification.

Are you sure? I've bought every editions since 04 (and then sold it to get the next one) and i don't remember that.

All they would have to do is make it like Superstar mode in Madden. You could play amateur events, (college events, but that would be a stretch) Nationwide Tour, Q-School, and Sponsors Exemptions untill you got you card. It would be cool if they let you check out different swing coaches, and customize you equipment too. I agree that they should bring back architecture, or Tiger-Proofing as they called it.

The last tiger woods game i bought was 08 - i never got past q school so I have no idea what they had after it

5 seasons of coming so close to qualifying but never making it got me back on madden full time

No, no, the PC version had this! It was great. You could choose your equipment, you had sponsors, you worked from a local hack to a multiple major winner. No swing coaches, but they did have exemptions for performance in tournaments.

Just the PC version, that would explain it, i had the Xbox 360 one. That sounds awesome, i might pick it up.

If i were master of the universe (which would include designing Tiger Woods 11) i would definitely include the things i posted above.

I have about 30 rounds in and there are significant bugs. I look forward to it becoming my Computer version. I use 08 on Mac and PC, this could be great because they could continuously add courses and features.

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
