I love to watch golf and do daily, but after the last several events I realized I just don't care who wins if Tiger isn't in the hunt. Not that I want him to win all the time, it is just that without him there is no "bar" to rise to. Goydos, Stricker et al, love'm but I don't care which one wins without the Tiger factor.

They certainly seem to be playing at Pebble Beach as if Tiger was charging from behind at them.

Yeah, it does seem like a lot of guys are backing up into the winner's spot. I could get into watching without Tiger, however, you want guys to step up in the big moments. Some have but more often than not, it seems like that's not happening. Watching Goydos on the back nine at Pebble Beach right now ... smh.

With you living in Mississippi, I imagine you've had enough Tiger headlines ... even in just the past 2-3 weeks! [jk]

It was nice to see Dustin Johnson birdie the 18th for the win. I wish I had a stat on how unlikely a 74 on Sunday wins it. I should also add that I've watched more golf in January and early February than any year prior to this. So many anti-Tiger people were talking about how the pro tour is still the same to watch regardless of his presence, that I decided to watch. Also throw in the fact that going into my 3rd season of playing golf, I'm really jonesing for the game that watching is therapy.

Actually not as much press as you would think. I would imagine in Hattiesburg it was all the buzz, but I live 90 miles north of there and only heard about it one time on our local news. Most of what I have seen has been on TGC. Also known an the 'infomercial' channel.

MSDOGS: me neither.

TW does not = golf for me. I'd rather he had been at Torrey and Pebble to be sure but the players are competing just fine without him.

lucky for you, my friend in Jackson said he'd gone 5 yrs there w/o ever hearing Hattiesburg in the local news and heard several times on the local telecast in a couple weeks ...

Remember the marketing slogan.."These guys are good".....well....another sad truth is...."These guys are boring". I've watched a majority of the TV coverage of the tournaments...mostly as just background noise while I'm doing something else....but without Tiger the PGA tour iis like watching paint dry. The guys with charisma like Anthony Kim, Camilo Villegas, and Sergio can't seem to win enough. Steve Stricker is a great player but "ho hum" to watch.

Phil Mickelson is Tiger's only active competition...but to be honest...he's not held to the same standard as Tiger. If Tiger had played like Phil the last few weeks...everyone would be posting "Tiger is in slump..blah blah blah". People expect Tiger to win every week. Tiger 14..Phil 3 in majors.

Tiger is in rare air that only guys like Jordan, Gretzy, and Ali have breathed in. Nickolas, Palmer, and the Shark are the only golfers that have transcended the sport the way Tiger has.

I miss watching him, but only because when he's playing there's always the hope that you'll see something really special.Something no one else in the field could do.The closest I've seen on tour in the last few weeks has been some amazing shots from J.B. Holmes, at Pebble and Riviera.I think it's been a fairly poor start to the season, a lot of ordinary golf being played.I'm sure it'll pick up eventually whether Tiger's there or not but it could really do with him for some real 'Wow' factor.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Can't say I feel that way. I've watched every round of every tournament this year and have enjoyed them just as much. No swears, no clubs thrown, it's been classy.

I felt kind of the same way until today. Today was the first Sunday this year where I felt fairly riveted to the tv. I think it was mostly because of Duval. I don't need Tiger (although it's better with him playing) but there has to be some compelling story that's bigger than one particular tournament to make it really interesting.

You found the back nine at Pebble boring?

Like one of the commentators remarked, it was a rather typical tour end-game: sudden death to hope (Goydos meltdown) and a few guys contending to the last. Plenty of action for me. Worst thing for me is when one player gets too far out in front - then it can get a bit boring. Return2: I agree, Duval was the big story today for me as well. I was hoping he'd win, he certain continues to prove something important. Well done that man. Not to take anything from Johnson's repeat of course.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
