IMHO no "nice course" should allow jeans, but saying that, one of my local courses started to allow jeans, when I mentioned it to the manager in the pro shop he said they are just happy to get people out there playing.

What difference does it make? Do slacks make you a better golfer? I can't believe there are people like you that are so stuck up that you would go and take it up with the manager. Who are you to look down upon other golfers?

Please give a good reason jeans shouldn't be allowed . Seriously, I'm intrigued.

Ive never played anywhere that didnt allow jeans or shorts but I guess ive never played at any high dollar exclusive richy rich snooty country clubs that i probably couldnt afford anyway so I guess Ill always be allowed to wear jeans or shorts anywhere i go. Most courses are more concerned with how you treat the course and behave more than how you look, as long as you at least wear a shirt you're good to go around here. They're happy to have people playing and making money. Once I was at a course and they didnt like that i wasnt wearing a collared shirt, just a t shirt and they said next time I needed to wear one. I havent played there since.

really? I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing jeans, mentally or physically lol.

I agree. I've tried it and it's way too constricting. But to forbid people to golf in jeans is rediculous. It's completely unfounded and elitist.

Well golf is a game I am relatively new to, but i don't think I would wear jeans because 1. you look like a bum when others are in slacks 2. what pro do you see wearing jeans? It is just a respect for the game 3. why do you think a lot of nicer courses require you were a collared shirt? Because it is a reflection on them. This was not intended as any kind of personal attack (I hope you don't take it that way at least), I just noticed your post and I think any of the above 3 reasons are reasonable reasons why some courses would not allow it. I am not saying that I agree 100% but I do think you can look nice and be comfortable while playing the game, and just because someone thinks wearing jeans is inappropriate does not mean they are looking down on others, looking down on them would be saying they couldn't play because they don't have high price equipment. *Again, I hope this does not offend anyone, it is just a list of reasons why I think courses enforce the rule.

My home course has no dress code, it's basically a redneck course in the middle of nowhere and they are really light and easy to get along with. They care about the game a lot, they will handle slow play, and when you call them, they come right out for problems with the course. I would say they care more about you being relaxed on the course and enjoying the game than the "image" of the course.

That being said, I can't play in jeans, they're just too constricting. I do have a couple pair of loose fitting jean shorts that I've played in a few times. But I always wear a collared shirt on the course, it's just what I've always been used to.

Pros don't wear shorts either, but I'm sure going to be in them in the summer when it's 95 degrees out there on the course.

All of the courses around here allow jeans, as long as you have a collared shirt. For the most part I play either in shorts or Dockers, but I have played in jeans when I left straight from work to play and forgot to bring a change of clothes.

There are no *nice* courses around here that will allow jeans, there arent even any slightly less than nice courses that will allow it.

However, there are plenty of crappy courses that do. Nothing was funnier than being paired up with these 2 guys in jeans who had already been refused service from 3 other courses that day. I think it would have been easier to throw on a pair of shorts than to hunt down a goat track to wear jeans at.

Course I played today is in the top 100 public courses in the US and it allows jeans (Eaglesticks). I love jeans, I wear them almost daily for work (when I am not wearing shorts) but there is no way I could (not would) wear them on a course. I can only golf in shorts so pants are not an option for me. If they were, I'd probably wear jeans if I could.

Even though you were responding to me (at least it appears that way since you quoted my post) you didn't actually give a reason jeans should not be allowed. Point 1 is insulting. Really, a bum? Why are you a bum if you are jeans just because someone near you is wearing slacks? That's as much a fallacy as the opposite. Your second just raises a question, "What is disrespectful about jeans to the game of golf?" And 3 is a question, and has nothing to do with jeans (though I have the same opinion about t-shirts, where I don't wear them because I personally don't find them comfortable, but others do). And yes that person is looking down on them. I was responding to montru's post, and he thought it was a big enough issue that he went to talk to the manager about it.

Great thread topic!!!

First, Im a 26 yr old Male, who has had a successful professional career since I was 21, and no I wasn't the nerdy kid either. Haha

Honestly, I don't think Jeans should be aloud on a golf course either... That being said I believe there are some, a few, but some, exceptions to that. Maybe it would be ok, for practice, or at a cheap golf course, and possibly at SOME executive courses.
I have worn jeans to play golf in only once, and I will never do it again! I felt like a total slob doing it. I can justify it, but it still doesn't change the fact that I didn't think it was appropriate. I went in for a lesson at my local executive course and practice facility, and my instructor had to cancel on me last minute. He offered me a free round of golf instead, and I wasn't going to turn that down, so I went and played... in jeans...
Out of respect for the game, the heritage, and the high class image that "golf" portrays. We should continue to wear respectful clothing that GENTELMAN would wear, afterall this is a gentelmans game is it not? Jeans just look sloppy! And I wear jeans ALL the time... except on a golf course.
To me, golf has always been a classy game. So imo it should stay looking classy, and Im sorry but jeans are not classy. They are stylish, but they are not classy... If you can afford the green fees you should be able to afford nice pants and a collared shirt...

Another reason is jeans just do not look athletic. And they definitely don't feel athletic. So, why wouldn't you want to wear athletic clothing in a semi-athletic environment on a playing field.
Most people that fight the wear of traditional apparel are the same people who fight everything about conforming anyways, so I take their argument with a grain of salt...

Good for them. If I had been insulted by being refused service at a course for something so insignificant I wouldn't run and change to accomodate them. You've got to have standards. Hopefully they are based on attitude and common decency, and not weather your pants are made from denim.

"Galactica_Actual" You seem heated about this topic. Im just curious why?

Most of the time when I see people playing golf in jeans they are usually the rude, loud, disrespectful people on the course. They play slow, they don't repair divots, and they dont have any respect for the game or others around them. Is that generalizing or profiling? I don't think so...

I mean, I think that golf as a whole has standards and it should!
This has nothing to do with class, creed, race, color, social status, etc... but it does have everything to do with respect! Respect yourself, Respect other golfers, and Respect the courses! Im kinda glad that those guys you mentioned got turned away. And why did it take them 3 times to figure it out? I think more courses should take a stand and hold their ground like that. I don't want to turn this into anything political, so ill stop now...

    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
    • Please forgive the sweaty shirt.  Just got off the treadmill and decided to do my Evolvr drill.
    • I'd agree that 4w seems like the right play here. I'm not a course designer or anything but that hole looks like it could be so much more fun if everyone played from those front 2 tee boxes that are right outside your shot cone and they cut down most of the trees down that left side of the fairway. That would give risk reward to long hitters who want to try and push it up to that left fairway, allow more players to reach that second fairway, and still allowing it to be perfectly playable for someone who only hits driver like 150yds off the tee.   Yeah it looks like 4iron aimed at that inside edge of the right bunker is the play there, especially if you don't expect a 20mph tailwind again. If it is down wind again, 5iron would be just fine too, it'd still get you inside 150yds for your approach.  Keep in mind tee marker locations too, you measured that one from the back so if those tee markers are moved all the way towards the front of that box then 5 iron is probably best just to be sure that right bunker is never in play.
    • Day 1: worked on my drill for my arms.
    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
